Racial Bias in the United States
The United States is home of many diverse ethnicities that come here to live the American Dream. Although they are legal immigrants, white americans still treat them as a minority group. There is still racial bias here that is causing tensions between ethnic groups despite all the efforts to stop it.
Over the years, the United States has accumulated many diverse immigrants (326,474,000 total). The whites still make up the majority of the population, seventy-seven percent. The latino population has increased twenty-one million since 2000 and makeup seventeen percent. African americans make up thirteen percent of the population (Census 7). There is tension between these ethnic groups because of their differences in physical appearances, cultural practices and spiritual beliefs. Many white americans believe they are superior to other nationalities that live in the U.S. because the white man has had more power than the others for hundreds of years.
Many of the white people who started to come to the U.S. from Europe, came here freely and had their physical and social rights unlike the Africans. When africans first started coming to America, they came here imprisoned, having no rights

In the workforce, there are wage gaps amongst different races. African americans earn seventy-three percent as much as whites and hispanics earn sixty-nine percent as much (Patten 9). Although the Fourteenth Amendment prohibits the State and Federal powers to exploit an employee based upon their race, religion, and gender, there is still discrimination in how much a person earns based upon their race and gender. Even though there is an equal employment opportunity agency that protects an individual’s civil rights in a workplace, there is still racial bias in salary
America is a diverse melting pot of various ethnicities and heritages all blended together to create the American society. As beautiful as that is, America as a population is mired in fear of addressing issues such as white privilege which is the product of discrimination and racism. White privilege is viewed by those opposed to it that those who are privilege received unwarranted success as a result of status, luck and privilege rather than putting in hard work or using their brain to earn their success. The existence of discrimination from white privilege comes from the privilege attained by a certain as well as oppression and social prejudice facing certain other groups or races. Individuals who are privileged in one society seldomly are unaware of their privilege, not because of their own doing, but simply because it is very easy to be oblivious to the privilege when you have never seen its adverse effect from the other side.
I’m not sure how it works now a days but when I was a kid we did not have racism prevention campaigns in school. Maybe I am asking for too much or it is just common sense to be nice to everyone but it all starts with our youth. It is very hard to change an adult’s ideas and beliefs but a young child is still developing what is right and wrong. A child’s young brain is easier to feed knowledge into making for the perfect way to educate our youth of this topic.
Every country on this beautiful sphere that we call earth has its own view on society. All countries around the world views America as being the land of the free and the land of being able to express yourself, but their just looking through a microscope .Whether those countries know it or not America has flaws. One of Americans biggest flaw is racial discrimination against people of color. When Jim Crow laws were introduced in the 1890’s it had a lasting effect on people of color socially, mentally, and their opportunities.
The United States experienced an influx of immigrants between the 1890’s to the 1920’s. Immigrants entered the United States from Eastern Europe and Southern Europe. From these demographic shifts we can also see that there were changed in the United States attitudes towards recent immigrants. These attitudes are grounded in racialized notions of foreign peoples and African Americans. Nativist notions are set in ideas of whiteness and different factors make Eastern Europe and Southern Europe immigrants not quite white.
Over the past several decades, the racial and ethnic creation of the U.S. population has changed particularly. Minorities are expanding their vicinity in the United States and will keep on doing as such for years to come. The Latino population is driving these changes. While today one of each eight inhabitants of the United States is Latino, it is anticipated that Latinos could represent one of each five occupants. Immigration from Latin America and the attendant growth of the nation 's Hispanic or Latino population are two of the most important and controversial developments in the recent history of the United States.
White supremacy is the belief that people with whiter skin are superior in this nation, which has the effect of disdaining other races/ethnics. The political policies also play a role in this problematic structural inequality. They allow privatization and deregulate the balance between the lower end of the class and the upper end. Although federal law prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, race, and national origin, the public policies and urban developers favor the mass of the affluent class. Those who born in a poor family are less likely to overcome their low social status.
Racial bias has played a significant role in the criminal justice system throughout history, and it continues to play one to this day. Whether it comes to police brutality, sentencing, rehabilitation, bail, etc., race is a relevant factor in so many of these criminal justice topics. The criminal justice system was not built to help those who are low income or those who are a person of color. Unfortunately, being low income and a person of color often go hand in hand in the criminal justice system. When there are statistics to prove how people of color are treated differently than those who are not, it has become a problem.
People in the caucasian community seem to have access to perks, advantages, and opportunities that people of other descent simply don’t have. These things further boost the idea that racist beliefs, and being blind to the racism occurring in today’s society is acceptable.
The article, highlighted aspects of politics, ethnic and racial inequalities in the United States and as such I believe that the conflict theory best describes the problems. Crossman (2017) articulates “The Conflict theory states that tensions and conflicts arise when resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society and that these conflicts become the engine for social change.” In simple terms, the conflict theory indicates that human behavior, in a social aspect, is a consequence of conflicts between competing groups. One of Mills (1956) most famous theories, the power elite, describes this
There are still factors that have only been erased on the surface but still play a large role in the way that people of color are treated in America, and dictate to a certain extent, compromise the “freedom” that people have. On the other hand, we have white America, who have heightened chances of achieving anything that they please. This does not apply to every white American, as there are also white Americans who are living on or below the poverty line, and much like everybody else must put in a lot of effort to reach certain heights, however they have an advantage over all other denomination of people known as “white privilege” which are the societal benefits that people who can be categorized as “white” enjoy over the rest of the population and in the end, have a higher social status. Ultimately, people of color must work harder, and face many more setbacks in their climb to success than white Americans do, which is not fair,
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a significant step in striving to end discrimination in the United States, and is arguably the most important piece of legislation ever passed in history. Title VII covers discrimination in the workplace based on race, color, religion, national origin and gender. In this essay, I will discuss discrimination based on race, because I believe that racial discrimination is still a widely known predicament in not only the workplace, but in many other aspects as well. This section prohibits an employer from refusing to hire, compensate, promote, terminate or train an employee based on that employee's race, and it also prohibits those acts against a person that is associated with a different race ("Facts About Race/Color Discrimination").
A problem I would like to solve is the prevalent racial inequality in the United States today. African Americans and Hispanics are the most underserved racial groups in American society. About 45% of African Americans and 46% of Hispanics live in episodic poverty (defined as poverty lasting less than three years). Over 15% of African Americans are unemployed, and they make up 40% of the prison population in America. This is a shocking statistic, as only 13% of the United States ' population is African American.
The United States has come along way as far as racism goes. Since the Civil Rights Act was established in 1964 things have dramatically changed, but there are somethings that has remained the same. There are thousands of African-American, Hispanics, and Muslims who face oppression in their everyday life. Struggling to find jobs, homes, schooling, and acceptance within a community. “I believe we are here on the planet Earth to live, grow up and do what we can to make this world a better place for all people to enjoy freedom.”
Migration and border controls are one of the most controversial and debatable topics in the USA, given its current political status. People of color are constantly being stopped and thoroughly checked at the migrations stands in airports every day, every hour. People of color are seen as enemies and criminals, while Caucasian people are seen as innocent. The superiority of being a Caucasian and disdain to any other nationality/ethnicity has reached epidemic proportions. It is nothing new that every country acquires border controls, although some may be harsher and more injustice than the others.
Wage Wars Protecting our basic civil rights in the United States is a recognizable value that all citizens want to obey or carry out. Civil rights are rooted on the idea of any citizen not receiving equal or fair treatment compared to the people around them. Although this is true, a major issue in today’s society that I have discovered revolves around the difference in gender equality and the gender wage gap in the workforce. Some people believe that females are not as capable as males causing a flux in the wages paid for the same job, however this is a stereotype that needs to be exterminated.
