Ambulatory care settings are often the first places where patients discover why patient’s chose Bellin. Bellin has illuminated my professional career, advocating for patients and families within my current ambulatory setting position, as evidence in finding a personal passion in supporting a pilot refill team as the lead registered nurse coordinator was on maternity leave. This previous experience has given me the insight to further challenge myself. Professional development has expanded not only myself in my career professionally, as well as educationally in working toward my masters within nursing, but through involvement as now a committee member of the advancement team. In completing three advancement program cycles as a participant, signifies how increased awareness can be expanded further into ambulatory settings as a number of extravagant opportunities for professional career advancements. Prior to this initial ‘team’ the NICU was managed by the neurosurgery attending and residents in between surgeries. The NICU team’s purpose was to improve and provide better care to the variety of complex neuro critical ill patient population at a 605 bed academic center in Metro Atlanta.
Patient care experience and the need for improvement toward patient-centered care is aligned with nursing excellence (Stimpfel, Sloane, McHugh, & Aiken, 2015). With the expectation of nursing excellence, the role of the nurse has expanded over the years with the current trend of focus on policy change. These policy changes are geared towards changes in patient care which will have a positive impact on patient outcomes. The nurse can become a leader in advocacy with the goal of raising awareness to health care concerns (Mason, Gardner, Outlaw & O'Grady, 2016). The purpose of this post is to describe two organizations which impact the practice of nursing and show the role these organizations play in nurse education and research.
First and foremost, I am a lifelong learner. I am committed to expanding my knowledge and skills in healthcare and am excited about the opportunity to do so through the AMNP program. I am eager to learn from experienced nursing faculty and my fellow students, as well as through the clinical opportunities that the program provides. I believe that my willingness to learn and adapt to new situations will serve me well as I pursue a career in nursing.
As I embark on my journey to become a registered nurse at the master's level, I anticipate significant changes in my role and responsibilities. As a registered nurse, I will transition from a student nurse to a fully licensed healthcare professional. This transition entails a shift from primarily observing and assisting in patient care to taking on a more independent and autonomous role in providing comprehensive care to individuals, families, and communities. The standards for my new role as a registered nurse are established by professional nursing organizations, regulatory bodies, and healthcare institutions.
I am an experienced hardworking, reliable and motivated Senior Nurse. I lead by example and thrive on challenges. I am able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and this is evident when working well within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). I have worked in Alder Hey children’s Hospital for fourteen years, working initially within the Oncology unit for eight years were I acquired a vast knowledge of sepsis.
Each morning patients came in for assessment and the treatment team developed or altered existing treatment protocols. I longed to be part of this team, working to stabilize each patient so they could return home to pursue their goals. The nurses stood out to me as the team members at ground zero in the unit, working directly with patients, and advocating for them in meetings. As a Nurse Practitioner, I will provide this same standard of holistic care to my patients, taking into consideration their biological, social, psychological and cultural needs while developing and implementing treatment decisions.
My passion for nursing practice defies description; leading to the reason I am opting to pursue a higher level of education in nursing. The George Washington University School of nursing has one of the highly ranked master’s programs in the country, which offers a competitive curriculum and highly defined leadership skills that integrates technology into learning. It is therefore my desire to pursue an advance education at this facility because it prepares practitioners to become great clinicians ready to solve real-world clinical problems.
