After reflecting on all that you have learned in this course, share what you believe is one current trend in the human services field in meeting the needs of individuals, families, and/or the community.
This course has been a revelation for me. In the past eight weeks, I learned many things about running a nonprofit organization, and I am sure I will learn a lot more. There are so many different elements that goes into managing an organization like how to build capacity, funding/budgeting, assessment tools, the role of the board of directors, and past/current trends in the field. One current trend in the human services field that will benefit all parties involved is collaboration.
Identify how the trend may impact you in your future position as a nonprofit administrator.

I will use the tools that I learned from this class along with acquiring other skills to diversify income that will support my organization mission.
In addition, discuss specific ways in which you could improve current service delivery methods in your future position to keep pace with trends related to needs of the population.
To improve current service delivery methods in my future position to keep up-to-date with the growing trends is to become a member of the National Council of Nonprofits and the Society for Nonprofits. These organizations will help provide resources and consulting services to further develop my nonprofit. By joining these two organizations, I will get the opportunity to attend conferences, receive free phone advice and assistance from nonprofit experts, access to technical assistance, scholarships for attending training and educational workshops, newsletters,
This course hasn’t influenced my career plans, but it has enhanced how I manage my projects and interact with colleagues on a daily basis. Furthermore, this class and all of my future classes will really be useful as I retire and become a self-employed government contractor. Reading about companies like Lincoln Electric, and how well they manage their employees and business inspires me to incorporate many of those techniques into my own company vision and mission. I’m using more critical thinking in my day-to-day activities and decision making. Critical thinking forces me to slow down and make better decisions.
1.) Why do you believe the RES Hawk Experience and the learning goals: Well-Being, Identity, Inclusive Communities, Take Action and Global Context are important to our residential community? All those attributes and experiences are skills that people need to develop, live, and used in their everyday life. When these certain skills are mastered I believe that the community itself can take on any challenge that comes in their way. 2.)
The clinicians have told me that this is a great placement that will definitely help prepare me for my LCSW State licensure. One critical skill to implement as a social worker is the importance of being empathetic and authentic when engaging with consumers. Through observing
The information I gathered in this meeting, made me more excited in getting involved. I was able to get a sense of the the staff, and their ambition to end homelessness. The staff was wonderful, and welcomed me with open arms to join their team.
Aspen Pointe is on of Colorado Springs largest nonprofit facilities that has been in existence for 140 years when it was called Springs Relief Society (Aspen Pointe, n.d.). Aspen Pointe provides behavioral health care to the community, the care ranges from mental health and substance abuse services to career and education enhancement programs for individuals and families (Aspen Pointe, n.d.). Aspen Pointe not only provides behavioral health care, but they also have a catering service and Aspen Pointe Café in the building where the El Paso County Department of Human Services is (Aspen Pointe, n.d.). One of the theories that I see being used is bureaucracy, Aspen Pointe is a very structured organization that is all about their clients and their employees are there for the clients and not for personal gain.
The last three clinical weeks at the Long Term Care Facility have provided me with real life situations to enforce the SILC clinical skills and improve my therapeutic communication. This experience has helped shaped me as a professional by allowing me to develop essential skills that contribute to the holistic care of nursing. A significant improvement that I developed following this experience included my assessment skills during every resident interaction. During these resident encounters, I began to address the resident’s overall well-being and comfort rather than just the current problem. I started incorporating questions about pain, how the resident slept at night, their current mood, and many other questions addressing the resident’s status as a whole.
Susan Brackman’s syllabus consists of multiple aspects I am required to choose three topics that I believe are important to me and how I think those are the most appealed to me. Three topics are to be picked from the syllabus, in my opinion every aspect is to be noticed and learned, but here I have three unique topics and how I believe they are important. Those topics are writing, rules and expectations, and attendance make up work and late work. Writing assigned is to be a well written form which should include informative explanatory, narrative, research, and etc.
Throughout the community in which I was raised, many negative connotations and stereotypes surrounded the ideas of social service provisions, particularly such programs as SNAP and TANF. Many people in my community made the assumption that a majority of people relying on government assistance were simply abusing the system in order to get extra money. Judgments regarding the color, gender, and religion of these people also spread, resulting in racism, sexism, and other discriminatory beliefs and practices. The limited perspectives shown to me through news networks and magazines colored my own views of the social welfare system. After thorough observation of the DSS office in Verona, VA, however, I was able to reevaluate the expectations and judgments that I had been exposed to in my
As stated in your post, chapter 2 was interesting as it provided an in depth look at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). I was not aware of all the different eleven agencies held within the HHS. These agencies deliver a wide range of health and human services. These services include life-saving research for the nation, protecting and serving all Americans (HHS.org, 2015). Like you, I thoroughly enjoyed the school of rock video which made the complex process of the passing of a bill easier to comprehend.
Your success at Texas Tech is all about the choices that you will make—decisions about the roads to take and the guideposts to follow along the way. For the final assignment, you will create a Roadmap for Success using the information from topics covered in class and experiences you have had outside the classroom. This paper should not just be a report on the services available to students at Texas Tech. In addition to explaining what you’ve learned, you’ll reflect upon the ways in which that learning has affected you and how you will utilize it in the future.
I feel that this class has changed my whole perception of what family work is, the importance of not getting caught up in the content and focussing on the process of identifying strengths that the family has which can be used to perpetuate ongoing homeostasis. This course also highlighted for me how much more I still need to learn about supporting the family system. I have been working with families for about 10 years, mostly with supporting positive parenting and also with families who have children and youth experiencing mental health concerns. I feel that my process orientated interactions have been effective for my gathering of information but not necessarily helpful for the long-term healthy coping of the family. By watching you, listening to your teachings and participating and observing role plays I feel that these experiences have led to not only practical knowledge but a new perspective of the importance of stepping back and trying to walk in the client’s shoes.
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
Then I will discuss Microsoft and Bill Gates’s involvement in creating the company. C. Lastly, I will discuss The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Transition to Body of
This essay is going to discuss the inquiry based approach to learning, and why it is a useful learning tool that promotes discovery, critical thinking and engaging in investigative techniques that allow learners to find solutions, sum up opinions give constructive feedback and gain insight into why an event happened. I will reflect on my participation from this, and what I learned that has compelled me to study towards becoming a social worker. Inquiry based learning [IBL] is a fact-finding process through which by curiosity displayed by a learner or a group it entices them to search for answers about the topic. Additionally, in a classroom environment, the teacher may ask an open-ended question that fascinates the class to want to look for
Professional reflection As I began my field experience journey, I learned many roles and responsibilities as elementary teacher. My duration in the field was nine weeks. I began training at E. R. Dickson. I developed a great working relationship with the staff and parents in the community. I always knew teaching is my passion.
