After completing week three, my experience at Indiana County Head Start continues to only get better. Taking on the responsibilities of an intern at Head Start was a task I never saw myself accomplishing. During my undergraduate work, I thought that I never wanted to work with young children. I was once scared of boogers, accidents (dirty diapers), showing affection, etc. However, accepting the role at Head Start has helped me overcome all my fears in just three short weeks. I believe that Head Start has helped me mature into a much more diverse professional and advocate and I look forward to the progress I will continue to make as the semester continues. Two objectives that I’ll be demonstrating is skills in reviewing medical information relative to eligibility, consumer needs, and planning development; as well as skills in educational/vocational evaluation and diagnosis to include: determination of eligibility, identification of existing and potential problems, identification of services needed, assessment relative to specific vocational/educational objectives and in planning the provision of vocational and/or educational services. I will be ensured to complete this course objectives because when creating my behavior management plan, I will have to review all medical information to ensure a complete elaborate plan. The second objective that will be achieved by accomplishing my goal because while creating the behavior management plan I will go through an identification process and do personal assessments to seek any potential services that many contribute to more tolerable behavior. My progress through the internship is moving along well and my experience and confidence is only growing. Next week having two goals completed and my work product accomplished not only shows my professionalism and diversity in abilities but shows my increasing success and passion for Head Start. Common App Essay When I was ten years old I was placed into foster care. I have two biological siblings, a younger brother and an older sister. My siblings and I were in foster care for two years and then we went back to our biological parents. It was hard to go back with them because they had hurt us.

According to Hubbard, Zapf, & Ronan, (2003), “Competency restoration is the process used when an individual charged with a crime is found by a court to be incompetent to stand trial, typically due to an active mental illness or an intellectual disability.” Before the legal process can continue, a suspect should be restored to competency. That gives the suspect the chance to consult with his or her defense lawyer to have a factual and rational understanding of the legal proceedings.
The world, as well as ourselves, can become confident. I will encourage scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship with my school and community. With my hardwork, not only shall I benefit, but all that I help shall be benefited as well.
Key Stakeholders Children are key stakeholders in the Head Start Program. The Head Start program helps children in several ways. For example, children learn their basics in education; children also learn socialization skills by interacting with other children within his/her own age group (Castro, Bryant, Peisner-Feinberg & Skinner, 2004). The Head Start Program fosters a set of values to support the overall goal of improving social competence within the family unit and its environment. Single parents are also key stakeholders in the Head Start Program, because they utilize the program to meet child care needs and their children’s educational needs.
Throughout my college career, I have been engaged civically through community service at various organizations such as Mentoring Majesties, Fannie Battle Day Home for Children, and Preston Taylor Ministries performing more than 200 hours of service. For some reason, I have always been someone with a strong passion for babies and children. Their unbiased and pure thoughts, genuineness and unconditional love are all traits that I both admire and aspire to attain. Just as they can learn from us, we can learn from them. My goal is to be a neonatal NP, and I am determined to achieve it, but my dream is to positively impact the lives of as many kids as I can in my lifetime, all the while bettering myself everyday by learning from each of them. I have been volunteering a Shoesmith Elementary as a youth mentor for a year now.
Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.
My internship placement is with the Department of Children and Families Services in the Foster care Program. It is located at 2150 Westbank Expressway in Harvey Louisiana on the 6th floor. The Department of Children and Families (DCFS) is comprised of several programs such as Child Support Enforcement, Child Welfare, Economic Stability, and Child Development and Early Learning. The program that I work for is referred to as the Child Welfare. Child welfare is comprised of the following subprograms: Child Protection Investigation, Foster Care, Adoption, and Home Development.
Competency Statement I To establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment. My goal in a child care facility would be to make sure everything is safe for the children along with the staff who would work there. To make sure that the children would want to come back and feel safe at the facility. I would want everything to be healthy for the children as well as the staff also. No one would want their children to come to an unhealthy facility.
I have recently been afforded the opportunity to work at Lincoln Elementary School as an intern in order to complete my BSW field work requirement. Lincoln Elementary School is not your average standard educational department as it specializes in more than just education, it creates an opportunity for students to be a part of the social justice system. This school creates opportunities for children to be seen as equal members of society and bridges the gap between individuals with special needs and society as a whole. This experience has been rewarding to me on a personal level because it has shown me the importance of social justice on multiple different levels.
When I was three years old my parents decided to enroll me into Head Start to provide me with an early start to my educational career. Before I attended Head Start my parents were required to take me to get an updated physical, vaccinations, and a dental exam. The required doctors’ visits along with the educational service provided by Head Start are the primary factors that have molded me into the person that I am today. The friendly and compassionate staff at Head Start who recognized physical well-being went hand in hand with a successful educational experience are the reason why I would like to pursue a career in the medical field.
During these past weeks at the Archbold ER, I had the opportunity to put into practice many of the content learned in class. This included but was not limited to the proper placement of a Foley catheter using sterile techniques, insertion of an NG tube, and assessment of patients. Even though I attempted to complete some of my initial goals for this internship, I noticed that I couldn’t complete a few of them due to lack of time and lack of experience in the field. Therefore, some of my goals that I’ll need to address during the following three weeks include improve my assessment skills, have better communication with my patients, and improve my questioning to get a better understanding of the cause that brought them in. This is often the first time that some children will be without their parents or someone they are familiar with for hours at a time. The unfamiliarity will often make it difficult for your child to feel comfortable going away to school. Preschool is an essential building block in your child’s development.
