Learn to Fail [ Feb. 12, 2012], failure is the most significant, but hurtful step towards a successful life. If a person has never honestly dealt with failure, how can they possibly ever improve or move forward? It is important to learn and be able to solve problems in society, whether it is for academic or not.

Nguyen’s essay focuses on how people who viewed her in a stereotypical way and treated her unfairly, shaped who she is today. The purpose of the essay is to inform readers on how racists acts and behaviors can affect children as well as adolescents in their lifetime; also how small remarks that categorize individuals into terms such as “foreigner” and “immigrant” play a role psychologically on how the individual beings to think and behave later on in their future. The essay incorporates may details that point to how other people’s use of language made the author think she was less than everyone else around her, due to being categorized as an immigrant. When the author states “I got good grades because I feared the authority of the teacher; I felt that getting in good with Mrs. Alexander would protect me, that she would protect me from the frightful rest of the world” (Nguyen, 90), this proves how being referred to different emotionally affected the way the author behaved because she had to act in a good manner in order to not attract attention to herself.

Failure, the thing or idea most people dread. At one point or another everyone has associated this word with themselves or something they've done. Although failure may seem inescapable and is bound to get you at least once, there's always a way out. My way out of failure was NJHS, National Junior Honors Society. Through having GPA requirements, service hour requirements, and the overwhelming motivation to stay in the program, it helped me stay focused and improve my schoolwork and effort I put into school.

Perez the main idea was that colleges want to know the real you,the imperfect you not the just the great things you’ve accomplished over the year ,but also the failure you had to overcome. The reason why they want to know this is to see if you can overcome failing a class or two just to how you can you handle this, because life is not easy and healthy,family and money sometimes can get in the way of things but the goal is to make you succeed. Another thing I learned that I think is a main point is that parents are the ones pressuring their children to be perfect. So much that they didn 't want their child to take a risk in a class if there was a possibility for failure.

Pérez ,Vice President and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid at Pitzer College, argues that students are not okay with failing and are pressured to only show their success, Perez believes that this problem exist because teachers and parents taught them to only show their success and not to show their flaws. He argues that race should not hinder equality or the quality of education a child receives. Baldwin uses tone and diction that highlights the importance of his message. In addition, he uses several persuasion tactics to convince his audience of his ideas.

In Mike Rose’s essay “I Just Wanna Be Average” he explains how students as well as teachers struggle throughout the school day. Teachers have the ability to make students want to learn or shut off the brain completely. They constantly say that “education helps people get somewhere in life and every class everyone need to take for granted” but most teacher do not help the student get there. Rose is right how teachers can fail students just how they act in the classroom and if teachers want to help people be successful they need to act it. Mike Rose’s unqualified teachers set him up for failure.

This is where failure comes in. Sherry proclaims that we need to recognize that this fear of failure is a positive teaching tool. To make this tool work, teachers and parents need to accept that if the student doesn’t learn the material, they must follow through with their promises of flunking. Imagine going to school and really succeeding; you understand everything, you’re getting good grades and all the praise you can dream of from your parents and teachers.
