Glen Kramon of the Los Angeles Times wrote an article titled “Football at Stanford? maybe not”(Kramon). The main point he is trying to convey through this article is that Stanford's football program is not efficient and there is really no need for it. The tone he uses to express these thoughts is informative, because he uses strong words and information throughout the article to communicate the main point of the stanford football program collapsing. Kramon’s reason for writing this article is because Stanford was a very dominant team 5 years ago,but it is now in freefall.

Bloody, bruised, and battered, Falls Church’s football team fought on in the fourth quarter. A football flew through the air as players crashed into one another sprinting to the ball, except I wasn’t on the field, nor was I on the sideline. I was a freshman watching our varsity footall team lose 0 to 48 on homecoming night, a familiar sight to many Falls Church students for the past 40 years. Those past 40 years are what has made Falls Church football the laughing stock of our conference, and since our school was one of the smallest high schools in the area, we never had the speed, size, or numbers to compete with other football teams. The era of Football in America is slowly coming to a close. Football has been known as America’s sport next to baseball for many years now. The general physicality of every play isn’t(B3) matched by any other sport on the planet, and that is why football causes more injuries than any other sport on the professional, and youth levels. Parents are pulling their kids from their teams, even in the middle of the season because of the information that has been released over the past decade illuminating a big problem for the game.

Football is a very popular sport not only in American high schools and colleges, but also in the entire country of the United States. Is playing high school football worth the risk and harm inflicted to high school football players? This is the main question raised by the author, Raymond Schroth, in the article “Abolish High School Football.” In this article, Schroth talked about the disadvantages and harms of playing high school football to the players. Schroth argued that high school football should be abolished because it had contributed more harmful effects than benefits to football players.

College sports is one of the best-known entertainments around the world. But for the athletes, they are students first then athletes second. For college student-athletes, there are a variety of scholarships and grants to help pay for college or college debt. However, some critics say that student-athletes should be paid a salary like pro athletes would, with help from scholarships or grants. Nike is one of the most respected brands out there. "Nike is so widespread across so many apparel and footwear categories, that right now I think their biggest competition is themselves," said by Ralph Parks who is the president of the 450-store Footaction chain. He also added that, "The brand is becoming bigger than life itself. " Nike has been around for over 50 years, and according the Nike website, they got their name from the Greek goddess of victory, and it is pronounced "ny'-kee." Nike, like many other companies, uses forms of elements like ethos, pathos and logos to manipulate viewers in there advertisements and commercials.

The United States is made up of some of the most diverse and interesting cultures in the world. Jamila Lyiscott proves this by showing her different dialects and how they are all equally important. Lyiscott believes that the way she speaks towards her parents, towards her friends, and towards her colleagues are all one in the same.  Throughout the entirety of her speech, Lyiscott changes up her vocal patterns and dialects so that the audience can understand first hand what each of these dialects are. When she talks about her father, Lyiscott uses her native tongue, when she talks to her fellow neighbors and close friends she switches it up to a more urbanized dialect, and when she is in school she masks the other two dialects with a professional sounding language.

In Friday Night Lights, H.G. Bissinger appeals to his audience’s sense of emotions in order to persuade his readers that the obsession with high school football negatively affects everyone’s future in Odessa, Texas. Bissinger relies on emotional appeals by employing devices and techniques to present individuals’ personal stories and experiences. His searing portrayal of Odessa, and its Permian High School football team, exposes the side of sports that severely impacts the people living in this society. Bissinger shows the long term consequences of this delusion on the people who are directly and indirectly associated with Permian football. This demonstrate how detrimental the burdens are for the children, which touches the reader’s heart.

Rita Pierson, an educator of 40 years, as was her parents were as well as her grandparents. She appeals to educators on the issue of creating relationships with students, rather than just teaching a lesson she embraces each individual as a concerned educator. Being in a room full of educators means that she has to appeal to them in a way they want to learn. She does this by using powerful anecdotes to engage the audience. In the speech Every Kid Needs a Champion by Rita Pierson, she speaks to introduce, convince, and persuade educators that they should form relationships with their students due to higher academic achievement as well as self-esteem; she continues to use many rhetorical devices including soaps, ethos, pathos, and logos to achieve her argument.
