Rhetorical Devices Used In Animal Farm

Literary devices have been used countless times by authors when writing stories. George Orwell’s Animal Farm, incorporates a plethora of literary devices which support themes and other important aspects of the story. Orwell uses diction, characterization, tone, and imagery which all make the story the classic it is. There are many examples of diction in Animal Farm which develop the story. Throughout the story, Napoleon is given a couple of different titles.

Squealer says that “No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. ”(Orwell 55). Squealer is persuading the other animals that Napoleon is the model citizen and does more for the farm than anyone else. This use of rhetoric creates the idea that the other animals aren't contributing as much as Napoleon and makes them feel ungrateful. The citizens of the Animal Farm are consistently manipulated by Squealer throughout the story and do whatever is asked of them, even as conditions worsen.

In Animal Farm, George Orwell warns how power will often lead to corruption. Napoleon was placed in a position of power after Major died, and he slowly starts to lavish in his power and become addicted to the lush life of a dictator. When Napoleon first becomes a leader, he expresses how everyone will work equally, but as his reign goes on, he shortens the work hours. At the very end of the novel, the observing animals even start to see that pig and man had become the same. The irony present in the above example, illuminates how regardless of how much a ruler promises to maintain equality and fairness, the position of power that they hold, will corrupt them.

Animal Farm- Lies and Deceit The book Animal Farm by George Orwell portrays the theme of how someone can lie and deceive others to get what they want just like how the two pigs Napoleon and Squealer used lies and deceit to gain power over Animal Farm. Napoleon lied to other animals, Squealer lied to other animals and they both deceived the other animals, but the sad part is that neither of them lied for the better of the other animals. They both lied to get what they want- power over the animals and the farm.

This is because he combines rhetorical devices and logical fallacies to make the animals believe they need to rebel against their current flow of life. " The speaker will have to do this by giving a strong thesis/case, relay supporting evidence for that case, and using this to help your argument.
