Robotic Technology In The Military

David White describes the history of the United States Military during a period post-Civil war from 1865-1898. He describes this era in a manner that described the chronological order of conflict, demobilization, and innovative growth of the U.S. Military. White describes in detail the utilization of these new technologies and weapon systems, and in his words the “professional introspection” of the U.S. Military. White captured the innovations during the civil war with quantitative data.

To keep this country safe sometimes we have to take the necessary precautions to make sure that happens. Being a Profession in Arms means being trustworthy, ethical and an expert in military tasks and your technical job. The Army is a volunteer force, as Soldiers in the Army there is a expectation of excellence from the community. Due to the war, the professionalism in the Army has not been given much attention. There are leaders who are not experts in their crafts and have not attended the necessary training and they do not intend to. The Army is addressing this so that we can focus on generating top professionals in our line of work.

While Janet Asimov wrote about 90% of the novel, Isaac Asimov polished some parts of the work and added his name to enhance sales. The Norby character was originally a robot that had been brought into being by another robot known as Mentor First on an interstellar planet.

Technology and advancements in weapons and machinery for the military is constantly being improved by people and policy in the United States. For example, robot technology has allowed less soldiers to be put into danger, reducing the number of troops needed. According to P.W. Singer, an accredited 21st century warfare specialist and political science and international relations scholar, “Since the 2001 terrorist attacks on America, the amount spent on ground robots has roughly doubled each year, while the amount spent on aerial systems has grown by around 23 percent annually,”(Singer 1). Because of these advancements in technology, less soldiers are needed for war.

Patrick lin makes the reader think and analyze the possible outcome of the robotic industry. As stated in the essay “With the new development of robotics, it almost makes you do some soul searching on what really makes us human.” His humorous idea about robots overthrowing the world is funny, but, when you think about in a real standpoint and how technology is being made to have a mind of its own, it’s not a far-fetched

The author asks “If scientists can pack so much utility into such a compact package, how long before the larger, android-style robots as envisioned by George Lucas debut in our factories and offices?”(489) this is a valid question, as it gives the reader a new perspective to think about. Because of the high costs of a humanoid design that frontier of robotics has not been explored, thus more “military-funded experimental programs, or corporate giants like Honda, which developed a droid-style robot prototype named Asimo as a stunt to promote its car brand. ”(489) Next, Charlie talks about Baxter, “the first commercially available humanoid robot meant for industrial use. ”(490)

The author's purpose in writing “Robot Invasion” was to represent the effectiveness and relevance of robots in today’s society. The author is able to persuade the reader that robots are beneficial to society by stating statements such as “the robots will be able to unleash a productive boom”. This statement from the author really exemplifies the positive impact that robots have on our everyday lives by making our everyday tasks easier and having robots be the productive

Dick’s Second Variety introduces the idea of superior, conscious machines who were created by advanced technology, and Kenneth Chang’s “Can Robots Become Conscious?” shares different views on the advancement of machines and robots. I believe machines and robots are not glorified adding-up machines and I think it is possible that they will become capable of original thought the more we advance in the field of robotics. Similar to the iPhone updates, new technology and new studies could lead to intelligent, conscious machines. Technology has come a long way, with the introduction of the Siri of the iPhone, Window 10 2-in-1 computers, flying military drones, and many more.

The government funding for computer science and engineering could profoundly influence engineers to keep researching and advancing on robotics to better help humanity flourish into the future. Many government agencies are starting to fund computer science and engineering for research on robotics advancement. According to Kumar and Kalil (2015), “In recent years, the U.S. government has created two national education and research initiatives that are particularly relevant to computer science and engineering.” These two enterprises where the National Robotics Initiative (NRI) and the Cyber Physical Systems (CPS). Also, the NRI and the CPS promote robotics in manufacturing healthcare, agriculture, and education.

A world of robots working in factories, markets, schools, companies, and limited amount of work space for humans that’s what is going on. The things we saw in movies and what we were dreaming is all becoming reality. Recently, technology has been improving in a very rapid pace. Technology, such as smart phones, tablets, and television, made our lives easier and more convenient. Now people can click a button and deliver food or items they want anywhere.

As technology and robotics progress, people continue to debate how jobs and careers could be affected.
