Many people, everyday get bullied. When this happens, you have to stand up for yourself. You can show courage, by standing up for yourself, and for what’s right. Many African American people, in our history, have stood up for what’s right, by showing courage. This includes Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, MLK, and many more. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, by Mildred D Taylor, Stacey has to show courage to stand up for what’s right. Stacey is a 12 year old boy, in the 7th grade, and goes to an all black school. This book is set in the 1930’s in the South, where the blacks were not treated equally. He did the same for T.J., T.J. is a 14 year old and in 7th grade with Stacey. T.J. and Stacey had a big test coming up, T.J. didn’t want to study, and wanted to get a 100. T.J. made cheat notes, so he could get a good grade. For everyone in the early thirties living in Mississippi, life is hard, especially when you are an African American. Working all day after school is no easy feat, and having a trouble making “friend” doesn’t help at all. In Mildred D. Taylor’s historical fiction novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry T.J. Final Project : The Logans’ Land During the 1930s, many African-Americans became sharecroppers, but they always struggled to keep up with both their families and their never-ending cycle of debts. The book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor, realistically displays how important it became for African-Americans to own land in the 1930s. The Logans, and African-American family in this novel, get through many of their problems with the help of owning land. Most of the other African-Americans in their community were sharecroppers who worked day and night, but were often drowned with debts. The land was displayed as a significant symbol for the Logan family, their independence, and relationships.
I believe that it takes more courage to engage in nonviolent direct action, like Bayard Rustin did against Jim Crow laws, rather than being involved in physically fight back against oppression, like Rosaleen at the end of chapter one. I believe this primarily because if the oppressed side chooses to be violent, then it gives the other side a reason to discriminate against them even more and it will cause them to fight back even more. “The Sound of Thunder” takes place in modern america. The protagonist, Eckels goes to a safari tour to take him to a safari in the past, to kill a tyrannosaurus rex. The safari company is very cautious about not changing the past. Eckels accidentally walks off the path made by the safari; his tour guide is furious with him. They later figure out that Eckels accidentally stepped on, and killed a butterfly; this changed the future for the worse.
A strong willed person stands up for what they think is right. They do it with courage eaven if they are scared. Courage isn't something you can just ignore, some people have it, and some don't . Even when that person is scared he uses his courage to stand up for what he thinks is right.
