In the novel, Warriors Don't Cry, the author, Melba Pattillo, describes what her reactions and feelings are to the racial hatred and discrimination around her, within this book she and eight other African-American teenagers receive in Little Rock Arkansas during the Civil Rights movement in 1957. These nine students became the first color people to integrate an all-white public school hoping that in the future, people of color that live in the same area could go to the same school because they will have the right to the quality education that white families have. Melba Pattillo Beals wrote Warriors Don’t Cry as a memoir of her battle to integrate Little Rock’s Central High. The nonfictional story focuses on the life of Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the nine teenagers chosen to integrate central high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Being threatened and harassed by her school mates while her own community ignore her during her attempt to bring equality in Arkansas is heartbreaking as her remarkable story is displayed in this book. There are lots of literary elements used to create this memoir as they help the writing spring to life. Some of them are: first point of view, conflict, plot, theme, symbolism etc.

Ray Bradbury used figurative language to describe the Tyrannosaurus Rex in “A Sound of Thunder. ’’ Ray Bradbury compared the legs to pistons, this means that the Tyrannosaurus Rex has strong legs. He compared it’s eyes to ostrich eggs, this means that the dinosaur has big eyes. He also compared muscles to thick ropes, this means that the dino has big thighs.

The majority of the people in this community are sharecroppers, who are greatly dependent on plantation farming. However, the Logan families own their own land. Cassie tries to understand with her family what racism is.

Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine is about a girl, Marlee, who can't be friends with someone because she's colored. Marlee lives during a time when colored people didn't have the same right as white people in America. Marlee faces many challenges in the society from many people, who disagree with letting colored people have the same rights as white people. Marlee must learn to speak out and stand up for what she believes in. Marlee was a shy and quiet girl at the beginning of 7th grade.

From what I've read so far, it is clear that Stacey Logan, Jeremy Simms, and TJ Avery, characters in the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor, have very different beliefs about friendship. First, Stacey Logan believes that friendship should mean something. For example, Stacey took a whipping for TJ because he was cheating. Next, Jeremy Simms shows the reader they don't have to be the same race to be friends. He would go walk with the Logan's than ride the bus.

In the novel Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Stacey’s perspective of friendship with T.J. and Jeremy is unique and this affects the decisions he makes in Chapter 7. Stacey allows T.J. to do almost anything around him, even though T.J. is rude and naughty. But, T.J. is still Stacey’s best friend. Stacey is pretty rude to Jeremy even though Jeremy is super nice to the Logans and T.J.’s family. Stacey’s friendship with these two boys are very different.

In the short story, “A sound of Thunder”, Ray Bradbury used figurative language to make a bigger impact on the story. When Eckels goes into the office he sees and hears, “... A sound like a gigantic bonfire burning all of Time, all the years and all the parchment calendars- all the hours piled high and set aflame.” The author, Ray Bradbury, wanted his audience to have a specific image set in the audience’s head. By using a simile he help the reader imagine how Eckle’s is going to get to the past.

Overall, Cassie Logan matures throughout Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor while learning the importance of bravery and self respect, friendship and love, and last but not least, family. She learns standing up for what’s right is the best way to think, but not always the best thing to do. The knowledge that love can conquer all boundaries, and not accept life as it is, that you must keep fighting for what you believe if even if that fight must be silent, insinuates its way into Cassie’s brain and heart to the point that she understands by the end of the story. Cassie sees that people wish for the best for her, and she tries to follow their examples. All in all, Cassie become a better person through out Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by not accepting the way things were and being subtle as she could with trying to set off a serendipity to her race, but learning life is more complex than black and white.

Suffering and sacrifice can negatively shape people if they don 't have the endurance to learn from it and/or people that they can rely on. Like when Bo Jackson got kicked out of football because the other people did not know he was going on a trip. That just shaped him to never join that team because of anger when he could of had a original college football career. He had almost a 1.6 percent of getting in again. In the documentary You Don 't Know Bo some people may think that it is not related to the incredible and stunning novel called Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry.

In the book “Roll of thunder hear my cry”, Mildred D. Taylor uses symbolism to provide context, and background information of the how their community is, and who the Logan’s fit in it. A great example when the author provides context and background information would be the fig tree. When the author is describing the fig tree, she describes it as “It keeps on blooming, bearing good fruit year after year, knowing all the time it’ll never get big as them other trees.” (pg 206) The author is trying to describe how the Logan family fits in in the community.

Imagine having to leave childhood behind and grow up quicker than most people. This was the case for Cassie and the Logan children in Roll of Thunder; Hear My Cry, by Mildred Taylor, and Squeaky and her brother Raymond in Raymond’s Run, by Toni Cade Bambara. Cassie and her family are African-American and are living in the South, during the time of segregation. They are still not treated equally and have a much harder life than a white family living near them. The children have to understand how things are and how they have to act in order to cause less trouble.

In no circumstances she should be allowed to assert herself
