In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, various characters show how pure intentions can lead to deadly consequences. Although the title of the play implies that Romeo and Juliet is a love story, in reality, it is a terrible tragedy. Misapplied virtues turn to vice when Romeo interferes in Mercutio and Tybalt’s duel, when Balthasar delivers the tragic news of Juliet’s death to Romeo, and when Friar Lawrence agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet. By intervening in Mercutio and Tybalt’s fight, Romeo’s helpful intention leads to deadly consequences for Mercutio, Tybalt, and himself. When Tybalt insults Romeo, calling him a villain, he is not concerned. Romeo informs Tybalt that his cruel insults do not irritate him, as because of his …show more content…
At the beginning of the play, Romeo goes to Friar Lawrence in hopes that he will marry him and Juliet the next day. The Friar agrees, but only in hopes that uniting Romeo and Juliet, will unite the Montague and Capulet families at last, ending their feud. “For this alliance may so happy prove, To turn your households’ rancour to pure love” (II, iii, 91-92). After the marriage of Romeo and Juliet, many things go wrong; such as when Romeo gets exiled for killing Tybalt, when Capulet engages Juliet to Paris, when Balthasar delivers news of Juliet’s death to Romeo, and many deaths that could have been prevented, including Juliet and Romeo’s. After the Prince’s watchmen discover Romeo and Juliet dead in the Capulet family tomb, Friar Lawrence admits to marrying them and tells the Prince of Romeo and Juliet’s story: “Romeo, there dead, was husband to that Juliet; And she, there dead, that Romeo’s faithful wife. I married them” (V, iii, 231-233) Because of Friar Lawrence’s decision to marry Romeo and Juliet, events leading up to their deaths were able to take place. Many of these events could have been prevented if only the Friar did not agree to marry Romeo and Juliet in the first
Firstly, he willingly agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet despite their families' feuding and them still being young. Secondly, he agrees to marry Juliet and Paris, complicating the situation and worsening conflicts. Finally, he suggests the misguided plan of faking Juliet's death, which results in a miscommunication and Romeo's tragic decision to end his life. Friar Lawrence bears significant responsibility for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet due to his irresponsible and ill-advised decisions. Their story serves as a reminder of how misguided actions and decisions can have a profound impact, underscoring the importance of thoughtfulness and wisdom when faced with complex
First, Friar Lawrence married Romeo and Juliet. In act 2 scene 6 page 112 Friar Lawrence says,”come, come with me, and we will make short work; for by your leaves, you shall not stay alone, till holy church incorporate two in one.” Second, Friar Lawrence gave Juliet a potion. In act 4 scene 1 page 174 It states, “I do spy a kind of hope, which craves as desperate an execution as that is desperate which we would prevent if rather than to marry county paris, thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, then is it likely thou wilt undertake a thing like death to chide away this shame that copst with death himself to scape for it…” Third, Friar Lawrence was in the tomb when Romeo and Juliet died.
Human Flaw and it’s Consequence in Romeo & Juliet All actions have consequences. The story of two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, is not a story of destiny or fate, but a story of human error, and the consequences that follow. Even though they killed themselves, Romeo and Juliet were not the only people to blame for what happened to them.
Friar Lawrence has devised multiple schemes and leads Romeo and Juliet the entire time. For example, he had Romeo and Juliet get married in secret. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet, meaning that they aren’t allowed to marry. Friar Lawrence agreed to help them do it secretly so everyone was unaware of what was happening. This choice led to their death because no one knew what was happening, so they couldn’t do anything to sort things out.
If Friar didn’t marry them it would of not started the chain reactions of events that occur next. The play ends with three tragic deaths; those including being Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence is mostly to blame for the tragic events in Romeo and Juliet, because of he did things in secret, not communicating clearly, and not executing his plans. The first reason why Friar Laurence is to blame is because he married Romeo and Juliet.
In the end, their deaths boil down to three terrible decisions, Friar Lawrence marrying Romeo and Juliet, Romeo killing Tybalt, and Romeo killing himself. The first, and seemingly least important bad decision made, was when Friar Lawrence married Romeo and Juliet. The marriage in itself wasn’t a bad decision. The two teens were in love and it wasn’t weird to get married at that age back then.
Friar Lawrence didn’t want to marry Romeo and Juliet, he knew they were rushing the marriage, but he married them anyway to try and stop the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. Romeo and Juliet rushed into their marriage and because of that there were many consequences after. One consequence is when Friar
Character Defense: Romeo We perceive that Romeo is innocent due to his apparent love for Tybalt and his clear disesteem to the brawl unfolding. He wanted to advent the violence thrust upon him by his love (Tybalt). He cared too much to fight him but when a good life-long friend, Mercutio, is murdered in front of his very eyes he is shaken to the core. He did this while not in the correct state of mind, cleary in a haze of sorrow and guilt not yet fully comprehending the effects of his actions. His gentle altercation with Tybalt defines his love for his friends and family.
Love. Catastrophe. Death. In this play, two teenagers fall in love in the matter of hours. Their love is forbidden because of a rancor between their families.
Why did Romeo and Juliet’s marriage went so wrong at the end? Maybe it's that they were not meant for each other. Maybe it's that they're family hated each other. Maybe it's because they both committed suicide. Whatever reason it was we can both agree they both weren't thinking when they were by each other and never thought about what would happen if they marry or the fact that they are total strangers.
Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths because he secretly married them. Romeo and Juliet are from two feuding families which means they would not be able to get married in front
Sometimes the best love stories end in tragedy. In the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, the main characters who are married both die horribly. The character who is most to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Friar Lawrence because of his selfishness and sloppy plan executions. First of all, the Friar could have told the prince about Romeo and Juliet’s marriage after Romeo’s banishment. Because Romeo murdered Tybalt, the prince forbid Romeo from entering Verona (act 3 scene 2).

In “Romeo and Juliet” Shakespeare tells you at the end that Romeo and Juliet died from making rash decisions without thinking about the consequences. Their family does not want them to love each other. They
Tybalt believes that Romeo attended the fest to mock and show disgrace to the Capulet and therefore wanted to kill Romeo. however, which in fact is not true as Romeo came to meet Rosaline and is known in the city to be a very nice man. Tybalt’s feeling about Romeo is not due to his actions but because of his passionate hate for Romeo as he is a Montague a family enemy. In addition, Tybalt Mercutio has great hate towards the Capulets and along with his short temper has caused his death and gotten Romeo banished from
