Rube Goldberg Machine Essay

A Rube Goldberg machine is a complicated machine built to do a simple task. This type of machine was invented in the early 1940’s by Rube Goldberg. Rube Goldberg machines are made by combining various simple machines. The three simple machines that I will b using are inclined plane(s), lever(s), and when and axle(s). Inclined planes are very commonly used simple machines and consist simply of a flat, sloping surface. A lever is a board or bar resting on an object called a fulcrum, and a wheel and axle is made out of a rod going through a wheel. Even though there are many different kinds of energy, the two main ones are kinetic energy and potential energy. Kinetic energy is the energy that an object has while it is motion. The faster an bject moves the more kinetic energy it has. The kinetic energy increases as its mass increases. Potential energy is stored energy, which means that an object can have energy even if it is not in motion. Some other forms of this energy include gravitational potential energy, elastic potential energy, and chemical potential energy. Friction is the force that resists the motion of two surfaces sliding against one each other. (It prevents objects from slipping or going too fast) There are many types of friction. Some types include Dry Friction; which resists the motion of two solid surfaces. Fluid Friction; which …show more content…

The first law states that a moving object will remain in motion and a resting object will remain at rest until changes by an unbalanced force. The second law of motion says that the greater the mass of an object, the more force is needed to acceralte it. According to Newton’s third law of motion, there is always an equal and opposite re-action that occurs as an effect of every action. Isaac Newton’s laws of motion are important in the world of physcs because they are accurate, relate to almost everything that we experience in our daily lives, and tell us how things
