Safe Post 9/11 Ethos Pathos Logos

In his “9/11 Address to the Nation” the 43rd President of the United States of America, George W. Bush assures that America will not be affected by the unruly and evil attacks carried out on September 11th, 2001. The President drafted this speech to resist the impending fear and questioning that American citizens around the country would soon be consumed by. Because 9/11 was the most impactful, yet devastating terrorist attack on the United States to date, Bush was not able to derive his thoughts from others’ ideas and speeches, thus he was forced to dig deep and extract the emotions and thoughts aroused by the “despicable acts.” Much like any great leader, President Bush wanted to stress the importance of instilling a sense of pride and resilience in the country and fellow countrymen and women to come together and remain as one. As the head of the “brightest beacon of freedom and opportunity” President George W. Bush declares that the United States of America will “remain strong” and appear unaffected as the country continues to build and rebound from the senseless acts of terrorism and hate.

For this assignment, I found a story related to the two 9/11 works which were assigned in this week’s learning journal. This piece, entitled “Are we winning the battle against terrorism?” is a relatively recent debate between Thomas Mockaitis, professor of History at DePaul University, and Jon Alterman, Center for Stategic and International Studies. They are asked if we are making progress in the fight against terrorism. The first writer, Mockaitis, seems to have a positive view that the U.S. and its allies are making headway on defeating terrorists.

Not every policy and strategy enacted can be a success, as a country we would never learn or find ways to improve if there were no failures. Since the inception of the Department of Homeland Security, many policies and strategies have been proposed and implemented, some being successful and some needing a revision or another policy enacted to change the failure to potential success. Here we will look at two policies, the USA PATRIOT Act and the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2022. While these are reactions to events that have occurred, as many policies proposed or implemented, were reactions to events that had occurred. They are also future prevention strategies to help efforts to keep the homeland safe and secure.

9/11 Attacks Impacts Throughout Times On September 11, 2001, Arab terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center, killing hundreds of Americans and causing widespread panic in the U.S. The 9/11 incident has dramatically altered the course of society through its integrity and stability with a haze of everlasting paranoia of Middle Easterners and the oncourse of foreign policies. The September 11 attacks left America devastated. The damages on the building would not be only effect stained in the history of Americans. The attacks led to the realization that security was not sufficiently able to prepare for the nineteen terrorists who took over four airplanes. The men went through the security check, dropping their bags on the elevators with no problem and they boarded their plane. The only issue was there was no issues, today the airport security has equipped themselves with machines and methods to prevent the jaw-dropping from happening.
