The book brings out some of the most horrifying and depressing moments that took place during the Holocaust. The Nazi’s would “dehumanize” the Jews by taking away their identities their belongings, and putting them in concentration camps. In order to control the Jews and force them into concentration camps, the Nazi’s would beat the Jews, threaten them, and use the fear of death against them.

Thirty-seven year old Salvador Alvarenga, a fisherman living and working in Mexico, loved his 25-foot long canoe shaped boat. On November 18, 2012, he planned to be with it in the deep, tranquilizing waters of the Pacific Ocean. He had nothing holding him back, his daughter lived in El Salvador with her mother. Ezequiel Córdoba, Alvarenga’s 22-year old crewman, and Alvarenga loaded the boat with thousands of pounds of equipment that would soon be filled with a variety of seafood. He had known there was a storm coming, but he refused to pass up possible catch no matter the danger.

His immediate family was not very supportive of his work, even threw out many of his pieces, and it was his sister-in-law that made him famous. A very-troubled Van Gogh had many other career paths before his dedication to painting. The mysteries that surround Vincent Van Gogh leave him shrouded in misconceptions.

Vincent Van Gogh Vincent Van Gogh was a dutch painter that was admired as a great artist due to his emotion and color. He suffered from a mental illness such as depression, throughout time he was poor and was unknown. He was born March 30, 1853 to July 29, 1890. He ended up dying in France due to ending his own life. Vincent Van Gogh’s father (Theodorus Van Gogh) was a pastor at a Dutch reformed church in Holland, and his mother (Anna Cornelia Carbentus) was an artist who was in love with nature and mostly did water paints and some drawings.

My all time favorite artist is Frida Kahlo. Not only was she an amazing artist but she was an intricate and articulate woman. She went through many hardships in her life and she expressed her emotion through her wonderfully surreal paintings. Like many successful artists, Frida had many skeletons in her closet and she wasn’t perfect in anyway.

Oscar de la Hoya was born February 4, 1973, into a very poor and tough neighborhood in East Los Angeles. Sometimes De la Hoya’s family didn’t have enough money for food. There were also lots of street gangs and drug dealers. His father decided to give him some boxing lessons to help adapt to the neighborhood he lived in. Boxing was very big in Oscar de la Hoya’s family.

Imagine believing so strongly in something and then being let down, or thinking that you were wrong even to believe. In Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie felt as though he had lost his religion and belief in God. We learned how strong his beliefs were when he says,“I believed profoundly. During the day I studied the Talmud, and at night I ran to the synagogue to weep of the destruction of the Temple,” (Wiesel, 14).
