In 1924, Salvador Dali illustrated a book for the first time, It was a publication of the Catalan poem “Les bruixes de Llers” (“The Witched of Llers”) by his friend and classmate, poet Carles Fages de Climent. Later on, Dali started experimenting with the drawing style of Dada, which influenced his work throughout his life. Dali was expelled from the School of Fine Arts in San Fernando in 1926, shortly before his final exams when he was accused of starting a disturbance. Salvador reacted by emphasizing his originality and became more and more excessive. This was the period of time where Dali’s insanity and obsession of being extraordinary began. Frida Kahlo was born in Mexico City, Mexico on July 6 in 1907. She is a Mexican self-portrait artist, meaning, that she painted portraits of herself. Frida is considered one of Mexico’s best artist. Her painting experience began after a tragic bus accident in which she suffered from harsh injuries. While recovering from the accident Frida started and finished her first self-portrait painting a year later, then gave it as a gift to her former partner Alejandro Gómez Arias.
In the museum of Salvador Dali over at St. Petersburg, Florida, there were several artworks that caught my attention because Dali’s artwork is genuine in many ways. Although I was impressed by all the artworks, there was a particular one that interested me completely. The artwork is the painting titled “Old age, Adolescence, Infancy (The Three Ages)”. This is a 1940, oil on canvas painting with dimensions 19 5/8 in x 25 5/8 in. The subject matter in this work is the three phases of life.
Pablo Picasso, known as one of the most prodigious artists of all time was born on October 25th, 1881 in Malaga, Spain, son of Don José Ruiz Blasco and Doña Maria Picasso y Lopez. Interested more towards the vivid world of art rather than schoolwork, he exhibited an extraordinary talent of drawing at a very young age. Hence Picasso’s father who was a painter and an art teacher by profession introduced him to the different techniques and mediums. In 1895, Picasso moved to Barcelona in order to attend the Llotja School of Fine Arts.
I know that The Art Institute is a well-known and well-respected school with great teachers who can help me improve and expand my knowledge on photography. I know some fields of art are really hard to get into after college, so I really want a good education so that I will eventually be able to establish a great career after college, which I feel this school will be able to provide to me. I'm still learning about photography and I hope to increase my artistic skills and I think that attending this school will be great for me to do so.
