Determining the healthiness of food being served to students during school lunches is a very important subject. Although eating healthy is important it should not be the only factor contributing to whether or not taking away students favorite school lunches is beneficial. I don't believe that it is a good idea to take away students favorite school lunches and replacing them with all healthy foods is a good idea because of these three reasons. One, the cost of the healthier food, two, the student environment and mood of the school, and three, the fairness to the students whose only meal is the lunch they receive at school. Some people may argue that school lunches are not healthy enough and need to be changed to foods that are more nutritious. …show more content…
By not spending more money on healthier food the school could spend the money on new textbooks or even tablets for students that will better their education and most likely higher grades. Consequently brightening the future and opening new doors for the students that they most likely would not have been achievable without the better education and higher grades. Another important factor that needs to be accounted for is the school environment and the mood of the school. By taking away students favorite foods it may have a very negative affect on the school. One negative affect is that students may decide to not go to school as much due to the lack of appetizing lunches being served, which may lead to all sorts of negative affects. Another negative effect is test scores and grades may drop because the student is not as focused because they have not had anything to eat and are much more worried about eating than paying attention in class. The mood of the school might also be more negative. If students are happy and feel they are treated fairly they will show more school spirit and all around be a much happier learning environment. Last but not least the fairness to all students especially ones that only meal they get to eat each day is the one they
What makes a lunch menu considered “good” in the law of the students? Does it mean the milk cannot be only a few days from expiring? Does it mean the food must not stick like glue to the tray? The answer is yes. To provide a lunch students will actually eat isn’t just about throwing a few frozen bags together.
Do you think school lunches are healthy for you or no? Allowing the principal to let us change the meals would lead to less healthy foods then they already are. Its a good thing to have healthier foods since they provide energy for the school day, allowing kids focused more on there works then there stomach growling. . The healthier the food you eat the less your stomach growls to disturb your thinking process or work ethic. Not eating as healthy could lead to energy lost.
To start off, what if I asked if you have ever felt that your school provided lunch wasn’t all that great? If I had asked a student, chances are they’d say that they don’t eat their school lunch by choice. But we’re just seventh graders that don’t know a lot of what really goes on when it comes to our lunches, so I intend to show you some research that I found from credible sources that proves that school lunches need to change. First off, let me give you the gist of what it says on an infographic about school food vs prison food where both would probably be fairly unappetizing for the person that was eating. The prison food tray has 3-4 ounces of meat, one beverage, one serving of fruit or dessert.
If students start packing their own lunch and not eating the cafeteria lunch then the school will be wasting food and possibly even money because the students don't want to eat it. Parents on the other hand might wonder why their child is coming home always hungry and it would be because the child doesn't like the new lunch menu at school. Then the school will have angry parents at their office desk yelling and complaining about the menu being changed because their child is going all day starving due to them not liking the food. Some of the students might blame it on the cafeteria workers when its not their fault at all, which could lead to the lunch lady's to quit their job or start complaining to. Everyone has a different opinion but this one is mine School lunches should defiantly stay the same no matter what anyone says.
Students should not have their food changed to healthy because most of the students would not eat the food. Mostly 50 percent of school foods have fats in it, which makes the food unhealthy. So imagine if your school cafeteria plans to change to a new healthier school lunch menu, which would eliminate most of the students cafeteria foods, people think it is a bad idea already, because the food they are trying to serve is disgusting and also, because most of the foods they say are healthy, are not so healthy. Principals should not enforce to have school lunches changed. Why should we have healthy foods at school?
Let's just imagine eating healthier food everyday for lunch , ewe , I don't think so ! While some people believe schools should have healthier lunch menus , I believe we shouldn't because schools do not season food how one person may like them, lunch maybe the best meal someone gets , and the same food overtime is nasty. Many schools do not put seasoning on foods because some students can not have certain ones , so the food does not have that much of a taste already. By making it healthy plus no seasoning isn't all that good at all. Some students come to school looking forward to school lunches.
Their are students that don't eat anything until they get to school. And they do not want to eat vegetables and fruits and that is it. then you will have students that will not even buy a lunch at all because there is nothing that they like, because it is all healthy food. Kids already complain about how they took all of the good food out of our schools, and you want to make it all healthy? A lunch can only be so healthy before you do not get all of the ingredients your body needs to survive.
Therefore schools are limited in options in regards to serving a variety of foods at lunch; snacks sold now have to be less than 200 calories, and students are leaving the cafeteria hungry due to the lack of tasty foods getting served. This essay proves these new guidelines are not a major step in the right direction towards improving school lunches; however they bring a whole new threshold of possibilities to the nutrition aspect of the overall picture of a healthy and delicious school
Also, the school can lose money because the food gets old and they have to continue to buy more food even though nobody is eating the food. Therefore, changing the menu will cause lots of complaining and arguments with the students parents and the principal. If the students are not getting what they'll like then they will tell their parents to come done to school so they can have a talk with the principal about their child not eating at school. Complaints will turn into having meetings for the school and the school board.
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
“Healthy school lunch means students are getting the nourishment they need to power their minds and bodies to learn. ”-Unknown. This quote is relevant because students need good, healthy food to be able to focus in class. When the students have eaten a good healthy food they won’t be worrying about when they’re going to get their next meal. The food needs to actually look edible for kids to even think about eating it.
Eating a healthy school lunch is part of the National School Lunch Program. It increases a child's consumption of six vitamins and minerals. According to a study published in 2003 in the “American Journal of Agricultural Economics.” Researchers found that eating school lunches helped a student’s intake of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin B12 and riboflavin, as well as dietary fiber. These students also had a lower intake of added sugars.
18% of kids from twelve to nineteen are obese in the U.S. says (overweight in children) by having better balanced meals this would help children stay healthy ultimately giving them longer to live. Eating a good and filing breakfast can give kids the brain power to get better grades in their classes, this doesn 't just benefit the students it also benefits the teachers because the students are more attentive and focused. Schools should be required to have good fruits and vegetables, dairy, meat, and grains. Most schools in the U.S serve fried "meat" like popcorn chicken mashed potatoes, peas which kids probably won 't eat because they don 't taste good and a sugary fruit cup says (Photos Of School Lunches From Around The World). This is not a balanced meal and students are paying
Changing the school lunch can always be negative thing also because most teenagers between the ages of 15-19 eat a lot of junk food so they wouldn't prefer eating healthier foods. It can be a financial problem for the school also because if the school started serving just healthy foods most students wouldn't purchase school lunch it it's sad but true. To prevent that from happening i would serve foods that look appear like junk food but are a more healthier selection for example Turkey Burgers is a good product they are more better for you than a typical fast food burger. Or you can switch it up serve healthy products one day, and serve less healthy products another
One, it gives you energy for the day, and it is said to improve how you perform in school. SFgate says, “It is important to refuel children's glucose supplies with a healthy lunch. A healthy lunch can give children the energy they need to stay focused, pay attention in class, and learn the information presented to them in their classes after lunchtime.” Eating healthy when we are young, is very important when we are older as well. If we eat unhealthy habits when we are young, than we might have unhealthy habits when we are older.
