Lydia is displayed as a hardworking and motivated person. But as the novel progresses she proves not to be a good friend to the other characters. Lydia is self-centered, judgemental, and ignorant of her privilege. Throughout the book, Lydia shows no desire to change and instead continues her selfish ways, making Lydia an unloyal friend. Lydia's ignorance of her privilege causes her to be oblivious to her friend's major life problems. Lydia grew up in a warm, welcoming home with two loving parents. Meanwhile, her friends are not as lucky. Her friends Travis and Dill grew up in cold, abusive low-income homes with poor family support. But as dill was going through a depressive stage after Travis's death Lydia decided to go to his house for the first time and check on him. Upon entering Dill’s house for the first time she immediately judges Dill for his rundown, hostile home instead of being understanding and having empathy for him. Her privilege should not affect her empathy for others. She should be more supportive knowing most people don't have it as good as her. As soon as Lydia walks in she states “A puff of air smelling of mildewed carpet and stale bread hit her nostrils... This is the smell of despair” (Zentner pg 286). Lydia was so oblivious to how bad Dill's home conditions are she immediately judges him for it. It is not Dill's fault, and Lydia’s readiness to judge a friend so harshly in a time of tragedy is telling. People may continue to say that Lydia can’t control her thoughts, but she can at least have empathy for Dill and his
In addition, Lydia lives under the pressure of her parents’ high expectations, which cause negative effects on her psychological health. This pressure begins after her mother’s return in her childhood. Marilyn accepts the reality that she has no abilities to pursue a doctor career once she marries and has children. However, when she hears that Lydia loses the cookbook, she decides to let Lydia to fulfill her unable dream. She expects Lydia to be successful without any gender barriers like hers.

The House of the Scorpion is a science fiction novel written by Nanny Farmer and is meant to be for young adults. This book tells the story of Matt, a young clone owned by a powerful drug lord El Patron. Matt later finds out the truth about where he comes from and faces challenges to try to find his place in society. This book has many adult subjects like abuse and drugs in this book, yet some would criticize that it is a bit much for children to read about. though Farmer's intent for this is to make kids aware of different types of dangers.

Ever since his birth, Matt lived with his caretaker, Celia, living a warm and cozy life in his cabin near the poppy field. But once Celia left one day, everything changed. Matt was taken to the Alacra estate without Celia’s knowledge, and had to survive through the brutal treatment of the members of the Alacran estate.
Lee paints Mrs Dubose as a “horrible”(122) old woman who is inescapable. The siblings are subjected to her “ruthless interrogation”(114) every day whilst they walk towards the town center. Lee entwines the punishment for destroying Mrs Dubose’s white camellias and the blooming acquaintanceship between her and Jem. The punishment is that Jem has to read to Mrs Dubose every night for a month. In their first session, Lee describes Mrs Dubose as a “nasty” woman who has “fits” and “spits a lot”(123).
After Travis's death, Dill descends into deep depression. Lydia is incredibly worried about Dill, especially about him possibly killing himself. She tells him “You know how bad you hurt right now. I would feel that times a hundred times a million if anything happened to you” (Zentner 291). If Dill would have slipped away, Lydia would have felt awful that she couldn't save her friend that desperately needed her strength.
He realizes that not everyone is morally just and that people often only see skin deep. Before the trial, Dill thought that everybody was treated equally and politely, but when exposed to the black community and how they were treated by the white people, his innocence to racism rapidly faded to shreds. Experience taught him that racism is an awful and grim occurrence in our society that would most likely never go
Her mother’s mistress also had the major impact on Brent’s life. Her mother’s mistress was the one who taught Linda reading and writing which was very useful for her when she ran away to the north she wrote letters to her grandmother. In the age, when people considered slave as a low-class worker, she taught her reading and writing which also lead Linda to believe that there are people who are really precious. Her mistress cared for her as she promised to her mother but after her death Linda’s life became miserable. Now she was the property of her daughter and son in law Dr.Flint and Mrs. Flint.
Mariah is a privileged person and and takes this for granted and Lucy sees this as something she wishes she had. Lucy feels broken and has mixed feelings about starting new. Mariah is very naïve and doesn’t understand how blessed she should be about her life. Mariah is unaware of her privilege, and over time Lucy has to learn to accept this and grow with this. Accordingly, Lucy sees through Mariah’s wealth and the privilege of wealth that she comes
Many people go through life changing battles, well here are some of the biggest ones that i’ve read. From Percy Jackson and his wild quests to find his mom, Brian a 13 year old boy facing life or death situations each day in the wild and the Logan family faces racism. So as we go along we can see how they overcome their challenges. Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon left Percy and his mother Sally on their own, not that he had a choice. But the gods took an oath that they were to not have children.

Her parents push her to take advanced, rigorous courses, and although her parents are under the impression that Lydia is a happy girl at school with lots of friends and adequate grades, they are wrong. She is actually very lonely, and her friends only use her for homework. Her grades are severely slipping as well. Since Lydia does not share these feelings with her parents, they weigh her down.
