They are similar in a way and not similar in a way. They are similar because this event happens once a year. In “The Lottery” the whole Village Square gets rocks and throws them at the winner they will throw the rocks until the winner is died. Often in literature, comparing stories will lead to revelations about human nature. Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games both share a motif of being trapped and take human nature to another level. Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games prove that working together and looking out for each other will give you a greater shot at victory. One very significant similarity is that in both books the characters are trapped on an island and fighting for their safety and survival. In Lord of the Flies, school boys, Ralph, Roger, Simeon, Piggy, Jack and along with other kids are trapped on an island and have to fight for survival, but, after a while of being on the island the civilization starts to die and so do the boys from violence and lack of communication.

Montag conforms to his society by being a firefighter that burns all books in their town. “It was a pleasure to burn” (Bradbury). Not only did he burn them in the beginning, but he enjoyed it. The book The Giver, a dystopian novel by Lois Lowry, and its movie adaptation have many similarities and differences. There are many aspects of Lowry’s story that remain the same in both versions of it. Generally, the characters, setting, plot, and events stay true to the book. However, in the movie interpretation there are some things that are changed and made different from the original book. Many things are changed in the film, and these separate the movie from the book quite a bit.

Even though The House of the Scorpion and The Giver are two books that are very different they can still have similarities. Matt Alacrán from The House of the Scorpion and Jonas from The Giver have similarities and differences. While there are more differences than similarities the similarities that these two books do have are very interesting. For example, Jonas grew up in a society where everyone knew what to do and never had to worry. Matt grew up in a place where he knew his place and had no worries.

This in turn lead to mass destruction and caused the government to form Panem and turn to totalitarian. This then made the government hold the annual Hunger Games to remind people of the great rebellion and to continue growing the seed of doubt that whoever wants to try to overthrow the Capital, they will fail immensely. Even their punishments for stealing or hunting illegally is harsh and very violent. The US however, is tremendously less violent than Panem in the traditions and their punishments.

In the Hunger Games series, a dystopian future is set up. The government of Panem, The Capitol, holds the wealth of Panem giving it the power to control all districts. In order to enforce this theory, they created the Hunger Games. They suppressed the rights of the citizen’s of Panem and selected their children in order to fight each other do death for survival. These games were created to scare the people and show them who was in charge.

Dystopian literature has become more common in today’s society. Some of the top book series are about dystopias. One of the top dystopian book trilogies is “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. While most dystopian novels are similar in some aspects, “The Hunger Games” is specifically relatable to Margaret Atwood’s novel, “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Collins describes the society of Panem in “The Hunger Games”.

When we compare the dystopian/utopian film, The Giver, and the dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451, it's clear that there are some similarities and some differences. Though some are very difficult to find, there are others that are very obvious. The three obvious topics are, the way the characters cope or try to change their situation, the setting of the book, and the government or leaders that they both have. First and foremost, there are similarities and differences between the characters in both works.

The novel, 1984, can be most closely compared with the popular book and movie series, The Hunger Games. Overt comparisons between the two novels include their futuristic approach and the dystopian societies that emerged after periods of war. Additionally, both novels highlight poverty as a highly effective method of control. Building on that method of control, both novels have a strict hierarchy of society used to control the masses.

Jackson sets up the story by describing specific details about the town and where they were gathering to form a twisted end. “The Lottery,” and “The Hunger Games,” seem to have quite a few similarities. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The Lottery by Shirley Jackson both show how humans are drawn to violent traditions and the hypocrisy human’s possess towards violence. I do believe author Suzanne Collins was influenced by Jackson to create her novels.
