Similarities Between The Fugitive Slave Act Of 1850

While some sought to end slavery other tried to save the owner 's right to slaves. In 1793 and 1850 the fugitive slave act was instated. It helped give owners the return of runaway slave. The owners would stop at nothing to have their slave back. Sometimes owners would even have a bounty on them.

There is a main similarity between the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment. Both have the notion and the purpose to free slaves. Unlike the Emancipation Proclamation which was imposed as a power of the commander in chief. The 13th Amendment toe the line of the legislative procedures summarized in the Constitution in order to create a radical and permanent change to the supreme law in The United States.

The Fugitive salve act was an act passed by the US Government in response to slaves escape from their slave masters. The law briefly stated that if the run away slave be caught by any of the free northern solider, They shall be handed back to their slave master in the south and the law also stated that the northern people will have to abide by that same law. This law should be considered unbearable. I personally would not abide with this law. There should be no such law.

According to the Tenth Amendment of the constitution, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”. There have been moments in history where Congress has implemented laws that states felt were unconstitutional. The Constitution gave states the ability to counter the federal government’s power through the Judiciary branch of government, when they feel a law is unconstitutional. The Founders of our nation gave Congress enumerated powers to pass legislation that needs to be abided by all states and citizens. At times Congress will overstep its powers by enacting laws that are unconstitutional and the states have the right to challenge those powers.

There are many similarities and differences in Narrative of Fredrick Douglas and the movie 12 years of slaves; both contents were talking about slavery. The main characters just had different ways they were brought up during slavery. The similarities to Narrative of Fredrick Douglass and 12 years of slaves are both many characters worked on some type of plantation during they life as a slave. Both Fredrick Douglass and Solomon Northup had a poor overseer.

In 2010, Arizona S.B. 1070 was an anti-illegal immigration law that was passed to focus on identifying, prosecuting, and deporting undocumented immigrants. Arizona’s law enforcement officials could detain anyone who was suspected of living in the country illegally. The law also made it a state misdemeanor crime to for an alien to not carry registration papers and people in the country illegally to solicit work. But, Arizona S.B. 1070 was charged with violating the federal Supremacy Clause by enacting its own immigration enforcement laws instead of following federal regulations; violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment by denying minorities their equal protection of the laws; violating the 1st Amendment by scrutinizing minorities

Thomas Paine was opposed to slavery due to the quote he said. "Slave, who is proper owner of his freedom, has the right to reclaim it, however often sold." He goes on to say the African slaves were forced into the slavery due to the Europeans bring liquor to there land, bribing one against another, and hiring tribes to fight other tribes. Thomas Paine was an original member of the Anti Slavery formed in Philadelphia.

The best examples of heroes may come from fictional stories but real life heroic traits often come from those fictional heroes. Some of these traits seem godlike but there are humans that hold heroic traits beyond what we can read about. Beowulf is a fictional character with superhuman strength that is fighting to save a group of people from multiple atrocious creatures. Harriet Tubman, on the other hand, is an African American slave who escaped from her master and ran an underground railroad to bring slaves to freedom. Although Beowulf is a fictional character and Harriet Tubman is not, they are both perceived as heroes that shared selflessness and leadership skills they used to accomplish their ultimate goals; saving peoples lives.

Intro The Fugitive Slave Acts of 1850 were created because the previous slave acts were loosely enforced in the North and the South demanded that this be changed. The new slave acts listed the need for commissioners. Many things, such as people being wrongly accused of being a slave, the punishments for failure to do their job, and also gave Northerners more reason to help the slaves evade capture happened because of the commissions. I believe that the Fugitive Slave Act was the main cause of the Civil War. This was when the south forced the north to catch any runaway slaves. Even if they just let the slave go through there property there is a high chance they could still get caught. When they get caught for not catching the slave they get fined 30,000 dollars in today's money. If they were to catch a slave and then have it run away it would be a 100,000 dollar fine.

The federal commissioner who handled the case of a fugitive would receive five dollars if the slaves were freed and ten dollars if not. Freedom-loving northerners who aided the slave to escape were liable to heavy fines and jail sentences and Northerns also considered the “Man-Stealing Law”. The North didn 't like the Fugitive slave law because they were against slavery and North states were free, but the South states were slaves and southerners dislike the Northern struggle to enforcing it; because they wanted their slaves returned.

Since the spoken word, hundreds of philosophers have defined law in different ways. Philosophy allows people to study the nature of people’s beliefs which can differ over time. Not even the law is exempt from the opinions of philosophers. Seeing law in different ways allows people to come to different conclusions about legal cases. The Fugitive Slave Law was a controversial law in American history, which allowed slave-owners to capture their slaves who have fled north to free states.

Jerry’s rescue illustrates the debate on Federal and state law on slavery. The Fugitive slave act complicated all of this. Now slave owners could cross into free states to retrieve fugitive slaves when under that states law they were free. The north used the free labor argument to append to the political discussion and hopefully abolish slavery. The Debate just escalated into violence after the Kansas Nebraska Act where a State could possibly decide on slavery through popular sovereignty.

Slavery had led to a division in the United States. Northerners expressed the abolishment of slavery while the Southerners were in favor of it. During the 1850’s, the United States became polarized due to slavery sentiments on both sides and Congress passed Fugitive Slave Laws. Congress passed the fugitive slave laws in 1793 and 1850 to return slaves who had escaped from a slave state into a free state or territory. The ideology of the fugitive slave law was borrowed from the Fugitive Slave Clause in the United States Constitution (Article IV, Section 2, Paragraph 3).

Throughout the history of the United States, immigration has and continues to be an issue that is present today. Undocumented immigrants face many hardships living in our country with limited access to attain a lifestyle as any other American. These limitations affect undocumented immigrants in their daily lives and they face downward social mobility. In the workplace along with anywhere else, immigrants face fear of deportation and exploitation due to their ‘illegal’ immigration status, therefore they remain living in the shadows and in extreme distress. If opportunities such as a work permit was granted to immigrants, their chances of succeeding in the labor market would be rewarding.
