love is a complex subject to understand, you have to find the balance between happiness and trust. In The Great Gatsby and Their Eyes Were Watching God, there are two protagonist who struggle finding love. Jay Gatsby, a guy who wants to find “the one”, where Janie, a woman who just wants to settle down with someone. Both, Jay and Janie, desired love and learned that love is hard and confusing. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby tries to find Daisy Buchanan. Daisy, is a women who fell in love with jay, but ended up marrying Tom Buchanan. There are a lot of mixed feelings with who loves who, and a massive indecisiveness throughout the whole book. The way Jay pursued love, was the same was he pursued wealth. Love and wealth play big parts in The Great Gatsby. Jay learned that if he threw parties, and had nice cars, then maybe Daisy would notice him. He also moved fairly close to the Buchanans, just to one day hope to see her. Gatsby did everything he could to make Daisy happy, he even died because of her. …show more content…

Throughout the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Janie figured out how to be independent. She desired love, and found men who she thought she would settle down with. She also learned, that love could be protecting from her grandmother and logan, and finds some that treat her like the women she wants to be treated. Janie also took risks for love, she left all that she owned just to move with Tea Cakes, and even though Janie went through multiple marriages, she found independence and strength along with the judgements and hatred that came with
