Marc Ching Claims 'Slavery a Tradition ' In Susan Abram 's L.A. Daily News Story
Please Note: The abhorrent practice of slavery spans the world, as well as countless generations. Regrettably, this heinous exploitation continues, even into present-day history. My article centered on America 's long and shameful history with the subjugation of blacks.
Los Angeles Daily News journalist Susan Abram recently wrote an article entitled "LA County leaders poised to condemn China’s dog meat festival." The article included a quote from marc Ching claiming the tradition of dog-meat eating will end just like the tradition of Slavery.
Ms. Abram 's story mainly dealt with L.A. Supervisor Hilda Solis introducing a motion to request that county officials

Blood and Treasure
The cost our nation paid to bring an end to slavery was steep, to say the least. To draw the final curtain down on slavery, our country needed to endure a civil war. A conflict, that resulted in four of the bloodiest years in our nation 's history.
To end slavery, our country lost more than 700,000 souls. That is more Americans than we lost in World War I and World War II combined. A footnote to those four brutal years of conflict, it left much of the Southern United States destroyed.
Marc Ching 's off the cuff remarks fails to honor the payment in blood and treasure our country paid. China would never need to pay such a high cost in end the torture and butchering of Dogs. I believe the Late Carrie Fisher summed it up best when she said.
"There is so much animal suffering in the world, and much of it, you feel helpless to end, but stopping the Yulin dog meat festival and ending all that suffering is easy. Chinese authorities need to do is declare it shut down, and the killing stops."
I would have expected a simple minded lightweight like Marc Ching to compare dog-meat eating to that of ending slavery. For Susan Abram 's and the LA Daily News to include his ignorance into their article is
The book Copper Sun is a story about an African girl named Amari who is sold into slavery. The author of Copper Sun is Sharon M. Draper. The book is an dystopian novel - which is also a fictional book, based upon an enslaved African’s life. In the novel of Copper Sun, the setting of the plantation and Amari’s village have several similarities, and differences. There are several similarities between Amari’s village, “Ziavi,” and the plantation.
To build his credibility the author uses evidence such as; “The French, who love their dogs, sometimes eat their horses. The Spanish, who love their horses, sometimes eat their cows. The Indians, who love their cows, sometimes eat their dogs” (Foer, par 3). This piece of evidence starts by showing the authors credibility because it proves that he has studied other cultures and their everyday lives as well as their own animal taboos. Another piece of evidence that presents the author with credibility is when he mentions, “Perhaps we could include dogs under the Human Methods of Slaughter Act” (Foer, Par. 12).
In the novel Chains, Laurie Halse Anderson illustrates the theme of slavery and the dehumanization that was faced by Negroes living in the time period of the Revolutionary War. Not only was the American Revolution a time of warfare and riots, but it was also a time when resources were extremely limited. Slaves, however, suffered the most treacherous of these conditions, and they experienced everything from heartbreak through the loss of one's family, to extremely poor living conditions during the war. At the very beginning of the novel, the protagonist, Isabel, is freed by her owner, Miss Mary Finch, who sadly dies before the readers meet her. Disregarding his aunt's wishes, Mr. Robert sells Isabel and her sister Ruth to the first person he can find, ignoring the fact that Isabel is a free woman.
The Civil War was a terrible tragedy that affected millions of people, but helped toward the abolition of slavery. Compromises over slavery failed, huge disagreements over slavery developed, and the people were in outrage in both the North and South. Slavery was the main reason for sectionalism and the outrage over it. The nation was divided on the subject. Ultimately, sectionalism slavery were the main reasons for the Civil War.
Frederick Douglass’ Goals Throughout the history of the United States the civil war has divided the country and brought racism. The nation was badly wounded emotionally and socially after the civil war. Before the civil war had begun, many people had owned slaves and many wanted to abolish slavery. Frederick Douglass helped with the abolishment of slavery by creating a speech on July 5, 1852 named, from What to the Slave is the Fourth of July.
How would you feel being trapped in a small cage for most of your life without any care, proper nourishment, and exercise. You probably wouldn 't want that, but that 's how life is for these dogs in a puppy mill. They 're about 10 to 1000 breeds of dogs in just one of each of these establishments. It’s a commercial dog-breeding facility that focuses on increasing profits with little overhead cost. The health and welfare of the animals is not a priority.
For many years people have fought for equality whether it is objectifying women or respecting skin color, however, what about the living companions that do not have a voice to fight for themselves? Owning and raising a dog in today’s world is not easy, yet Americans are purchasing dogs selfishly making them seem like objects which can easily be replaced. Much like other freedoms in life, Citizens are blind to the fact that owning a dog is simply a privilege that should not be taken for granted. Dogs have fought and died to earn a spot entitling them as man’s best friend over the years, yet false information can easily blacklist them and make them unadoptable. America should change animal ownership privileges because the increasing numbers of dogs in shelters, relaxed specifications on dog breeding, and the unfair accusations towards specific breeds.
In fact, within this claim he mentions dogs in a way that forces the reader to reflect on the claims he made about dogs earlier within the piece. Foer argues for the consumption of dog in a logical way in order to draw attention to a bigger issue: the treatment of animals in factory-farmed meat. While Foer might still be pro-eating dog, his entire argument that he presents throughout the essay is, essentially, a different perspective on the issue of factory-farmed meat. He relates this issue to the audience by bringing up a controversial topic, and while he may not convince his audience to eat dog, he at the very least shows that, logically, eating dog could make sense. Once he has made his point clear, he points to hypothetical situations of how dogs would be humanely prepared if they were to be eaten by stating, “we can all agree that if we’re going to eat them, we should kill them quickly and painlessly” (605).
Therefore, the only characters who vehemently oppose slavery are women. After Mr. Shelby confesses to selling Tom and Henry, Mrs. Shelby expresses, “You know I never thought that slavery was right—never felt willing to own slaves” (Stowe 85). While arguing with St. Claire over slavery, Miss Ophelia asserts, “I defy anybody on earth to read our slave-code…and make anything else of it. Talk of the abuses of slavery… The thing itself is the essence of all abuse” (Stowe 332).
Puppy mills are a controversial issue that must be outlawed everywhere in the United States for its merciless acts towards dogs. These bitter breeding places should be made illegal for three major reasons. First, these puppies are not given an adequate amount of care. They eventually contract many diseases which are left untreated. Second, many analysis and statistics show that they are located everywhere in an immense amount.
She gives the idea of a dog in US as well as in Britain the dog is a sacred “a man’s best friend”, but in other countries dogs are eaten, “What is considered food by one person or culture is considered inedible to another, “One man’s meat is another man’s poison,” as the old adage succinctly states.” (Delaney) But the section that struck me the most from the chapter would have to be the section titled, Of Meat and Men, which talked about what eating meat symbioses, “People with power have always eaten meat” (Adams 1991: 26), and that implies only class distinctions but also gender.” (Delaney) This section goes on to talk about how soldiers in WWII ate two-and-a-half times as much meat as the average citizen, and talks about how patriarchal societies, have men eat before anyone else is served. This short section describes the cultural beliefs of meat being a manly food that is to be consumed by men first in a way relates to The Beauty Myth presented by
How big of impact could slavery have done to Africa at least that’s what they said? The slave trade had huge and horrible impact on Africa because it resulted in a tremendous loss of life, Africa has not developed economically as a result of the Slave trade, and Africa still suffers and is unable to provide food and water for its people. Africa had a huge loss of people but to be exact “nearly 90 percent of the Africans in these two major regions came from only four zones in Africa. ”(“The Transatlantic Slave Trade”, para 48) all had to go even against their will 10 million enslaved men, women, and children from West and East Africa to North Africa, the Middle East, and India.
Slavery as Memory and History is the first chapter of an interesting investigation made by Ira Berlin in his book called Remembering Slavery. In this chapter, Ira establishes the path that his book will follow, so he gives a small critique to the data collected on the topic, which his book will touch. What he has been able to do, is to create a real and critical organization of the process made in order to collect information and records after the abolition of slavery. Since most of the people that have been living under slavery were dying. What he suggests is that a big part of the story has been shaped by the political and philosophical ideas of the collectors.
The meat packing industry disregards animal’s emotions and their rights all together by the malicious treatment of animals. The way animals are being treated is highly unfair. Being slaughtered for their body parts and suffering just to be used for protein or an asset to humans is unbearable. An animal’s life is at equal values to a human and deserve the same rights as
There are a few people in this world including the comedian, Ricky Gervais who wants people to contribute and bring an end to this nasty festival. Dog Yulin Festival, personally should be banned without any second thoughts. People in china are also aware this is a case of animal cruelty. A dog is said to be a “A man’s best friend”... then why do you want to take the life of your best friend? .
