Social Justice is a term used to justify the equality in the world; equality of race, equality of gender, equality of religion, of age, of background; equality of all people not dependent on any outside factor, but of the people themselves.

These students don’t get equal opportunities as those students attending elite schools. Authors Toni Cade Bambara and Jonathon Kozol have written vivid examples on how working class students have been impacted by segregation in school. Working class schools

First of all, I would like to introduce what social justice means to me. Social justice doesn’t mean just equality, but justice or equity. Johnathan Kozol’s article “Still Separate, Still Unequal: America’s Educational Apartheid” targets today’s society. He states how segregation today isn’t any different from how it was decades back. The intended audience can initially be everyone because the article stresses the importance of how America hasn’t really gone through much change. Kozol uses several methods of development to produce a successful argument. He persuasively constructs his argument using logos, while backing up his claim with factual information.

Looking at this article through a counselor lens, I believe it is our duties to advocate for all students no matter their SES or ethnic background. There is clearly more work in advocating for students in working class school, but there are students that still needs our help in the upper class school.

Social justice can be termed as phenomenon according to which all the masses are equal in the eye of justice irrespective of their economic, political and social status. Many students aspire to become lawyers for the purpose of social justice. They want to help poor, discriminated and needy, who cannot afford the cost of justice. When the three articles are combined and examined together, all authors agree that education has an important function in changing society for the better, but focus on different aspects of society that should change. Steele talks about integrating education and lessening the divide between individuals in the education system as a way to learn equally and most effectively. Furthermore, Steele (1992) states that focusing on collective entitlements based on any type of group, such as gender or ethnicity, are always undemocratic.

As Americans, we view the Constitution as a stepping stone to making the great country we live in today. Yet, we the people of the United States failed to realize another component in order to form a perfect union. Which is to establish and promote equal opportunities for a quality education for all. However, we live in a society where social locators such as class, gender, and race are huge factors in the determination of one’s educational future.
