The “Sons of Liberty” or the “Sons of Violence”?
Only about 50% or less of the colonists, in the New World, supported the Sons of Liberty and defied the king, while all the others remained loyal to England. Many disagree whether the Sons of Liberty were heroes or if they were violent criminals. However, they were fighting for charitable reasons and their intentions were well meant a majority of the time. The Sons of Liberty accomplished many great feats, such as winning the colonies their freedom from England, and therefore without them, the United States people are now familiar with, would not exist. They also set an example for countries all over the world, and when other countries saw that we had won our freedom, they too wanted to change

For instance, the Sons of Liberty started riots, committed treason, and started a war with England. Not to mention they were behind the Boston Tea Party, leading to the closing of the Boston Harbor and many colonists losing their jobs. In addition to all of this, they also didn’t pay their taxes, and were rather deceitful. The Sons of Liberty were masters of media, which could be seen in either a positive or negative light. These violences and crimes, however, could not have led the colonies to become the United States, and would not have gained the colonists their liberty. In fact, most people believe that the Sons of Liberty were very deceitful, and destroyed economy in Boston, as well as property. To further prove the point that many people dislike the Sons of Liberty, the British soldiers often referred to the Sons of Liberty as the “Sons of Violence” to give them an inauspicious reputation. The Sons of Liberty even had the audacity to defy the king, which was seen as treason back then. However, the outcome of what the Sons of Liberty fought for, far outweighed any wrongdoings they may have committed. The Sons of Liberty were fighting for a sapient cause which was the liberty of the colonists. If poor decisions defined someone and made them an unacceptable person, then everyone would be unacceptable because everyone makes terrible decisions and mistakes. So, despite the actions the Sons of Liberty sometimes chose
In the film “The Patriot," Robert Rodat uses the archetypes of the quest for revenge and the fall to reveal how We as humans are willing to go to war for freedom and for family, instead of living the way others want us to. In other words, people have been known throughout history to go to war or have a conflict so, they can protect their family and their freedom. Wthout war or conflict, people would not have been living in the same conditions they do today. Why is freedom and family worth fighting for In the Beginning of "The Patriot," the Martin family is living on a plantation in South Carolina in 1776 during the American Revolutionary War.
Patrick Henry would rather die than have no liberty he even stated “give me liberty or give me death”. Benjamin franklin was also on the fighting the British side. He said that they must make
“The Father of America,” one of Samuel Adams’ nicknames and even though he wasn't officially an American leader, he still got the name because he was the spokesperson for the rebellion. Samuel Adams was a very important figure in the American Revolution. Adams had large influence on the American Revolution including setting up the Boston Tea Party in 1773, being an organizer of the Sons of Liberty, and creating the Committees of Correspondence. Firstly, Sam Adams had a prominent role in the Sons of Liberty.
Roosevelt describes the definition of liberty which “we are moving forward to greater freedom, to greater security for the average man than he has ever known before in the history of America. ”2 It is interesting to see these promises made by Roosevelt in our text then go on to read about the misery of
Before America could have any Founding Fathers, the country needed Sons of Liberty to stand up to the British government. These men harnessed the outrage that had spread following Parliament 's Stamp Act of 1765, which levied an internal tax on the colonies. Though the Stamp Act was repealed, the disagreement over "taxation without representation" wouldn 't go away, resulting in events like the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. The History Channel miniseries Sons of Liberty takes a dramatic look at the men who led the protests and upheavals that eventually resulted in revolution and independence.
Freedom Even though the colonists did not have a clear understanding of freedom because they were under the rule of a tyrant, the Speech in the Virginia Convention and Crisis #1, written by Patrick Henry and Thomas Paine, both motivated the colonists and congress to aspire and achieve freedom. Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry both used very similar quotes to motivate the colonists into realizing that fighting the British king would grant them freedom at last. No matter how many times the American colonists attempted to resolve things through petitions, remonstrations, and arguments the British were right there, smiling insidiously, but only proved to snare their feet. The colonists were tired of these lies and insults, so this is where Paine and Henry step in.
I believe that the founding fathers of our countries are just in there actions of rebellion because the British government taxed them heavily without representation(taxation without representation). They also where just because the British government forced unfair laws on the citizens in the colonies. And finally they where just in rebellion because Britain taxed them for unfair reasons. The British government was unjust in taxing the colonies. The colonies had no representative in parliament to represent them when they where being taxed.
Do you believe the American Colonists were Patriots or did they commit treason? No I don’t they committed treason. I believe they are patriots and there sacrifices shouldn’t be considered treason. They were just doing what they thought was right and the British forced him.
The Sons of Liberty were much like modern day Isis. From burning houses to murder, they were a group of people no one dared to provoke. The famous rebel group took a stand against the British Parliament for what they believed was right. They gave colonists hope in not only their future, but also America’s future. The Sons of Liberty are important because they secured America’s future, showed bravery, and formed the Continental Congress.
I feel that the way patriots treated the loyalists was cruel and unjust. In the beginning of the Americas, everyone living there followed the king and what he had to say and what he did. They were all British and proud of that. So even if some things went bad and not everybody agreed, the loyalists were still proud to be British, which isn’t a bad thing. The thing that is bad about this is how the people who were no longer wanting to be British treated the people who did.
Undoubtedly, the Sons of Liberty were a violent group that used brutal tactics to get their way. For example, the Sons of Liberty believed that being taxed was unfair. In result of this so- called “unfair taxing”, they decided to tar and feather tax collectors. Tar and feathering was a very painful punishment that was very cruel. They decided to take their anger out on loyalists and not
The Sons of Liberty became known as a patriot group founded in the Boston colony. They formed before the American Revolution and independence from Great Britain, known first as the “Loyal Nine.” The Sons of Liberty protested unfair taxes imposed by the British crown, terrorized British colonial authorities and contributed to the start of the American Revolution. The objective of the Sons of Liberty was to stop implementation of the 1765 Stamp Act by any methods including viciousness.
Britain was forcing the colonists to house the British soldiers and there was no compensation. The British government also violated the colonist’s rights by restricting trade by preventing other nations from purchasing products form the North American colonial market. Obviously, the Founding Fathers were justified in rebelling because the British government was taking advantage of the colonists. Parliament applied various taxes, and forced the colonists to house British soldiers which violated the rights of the colonists.
In a speech that Learned Hand, a federal judge, gave he talked about the spirit of liberty. Hand proclaimed, “The spirit of liberty is the spirit which is not too sure that it is right; the spirit of liberty is the spirit which seeks to understand the mind of other men and women; the spirit of liberty is the spirit which weighs their interests alongside its own without bias;” What he
