In Homer’s marvelous epic of Odysseus have a few similarities and a little more differences than the famous movie “O’ Brother Where Art Thou”. The epic poem The Odyssey written by Homer is about the adventurous journey of Odysseus trying to get back home to Ithaca. In an excerpt from pages 148-151 of book IX, Odysseus’s point of view is shown at the Kyklopês island before he and his crew encounter one. Throughout the excerpt from the book The Odyssey, Odysseus is trying to portray the conflicts between the humans and Kyklopês by showing differences in their style of living and habits. Even though the Kyklopês are given the blessing of perfect land, they do not know the value they have been given. Odysseus’s words throughout the excerpt create imagery of the land of the Kyclopês.

Homer’s Odyssey and the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou are mirror images of each other. The characters in both stories go through events that display similar themes. For example, when Odysseus arrives at Helios island, his men show a lack of discipline and control within themselves. The crew were told by Odysseus not to hurt the cattle of the sun god when they were to arrive at the island.

I feel in both story’s it was that way . My second connection is to the real world and ‘’Star Wars’’,it has lots of battles and it teaches you to be strong because not every thing will be easy. For example, The Odyssey relates to Napoleon Dynamite because they both face sadness and distress when they lose the person they are the most comfortable being around. The crisis is the biggest trial the hero faces in the special world. The danger is very high during this stage.

The responsibility for this suffering is caused by a mixture of both human actions, along with the intervention of the gods. The plotline depends heavily upon the idea of suffering, due to the separation between characters. The suffering through separation throughout the story plays a critical role in the development of the characters, and for the advancement of the storyline. Between Odysseus and Penelope and Calypso and Odysseus, the pressure of each character’s situation tests their mental strength, while highlighting their intense sorrow felt while being separated from one another. After Odysseus had defeated Troy, he ended up on an island with the beautiful goddess Calypso.

The novel, The Odyssey by Homer and the film, O’ Brother, Where Art Thou are very separate tales, yet they share many of the same factors. One of these factors is the main characters from each, Odysseus and Ulysses Everett McGill. Both are leaders, on an odyssey home to be reunited with their family, and reclaim their old lives. Despite their character resemblance, I believe Odysseus was the outstanding leader of the two. Odysseus managed the Cyclops predicament exceedingly better than Everett.

Introduced by Joseph Campbell, the Hero’s Journey describes the typical narrative pattern that accompanies many forms of storytelling, most commonly and most easily seen in classical literature.
