A) Explain how can Steve Jobs’ leadership style be analyzed? To what extent does the evidence so far conform to the Burns model of transformational leadership?
The idea of a great leader is often summarized with the name Steve Jobs. Yesterday, Jobs passed away leaving a legacy of products and passionate followers devoted to the brand he created. The intersection of leadership and the relationships that individuals have with a brand is a mixture that can bring great success to an organization. Jobs had that effect on Apple, Inc. when he revolutionized their product line and began to construct a brand that blurred the line of demarcation between art and technology.

SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP
The situational leadership theory, is a leadership theory developed by Paul Hersey, professor and author of the book Situational Leader, and Ken Blanchard, leadership guru and author of The One Minute Manager, while working on the first edition of Management of Organizational Behavior (now in its 9th edition). The theory was first introduced as "Life Cycle Theory of Leadership”. During the mid-1970s, "Life Cycle Theory of Leadership" was renamed "Situational Leadership theory".

Effective leadership is task-relevant, and the most successful leaders are those that adapt their leadership style to the maturity ("the capacity to set high but attainable goals, willingness and ability to take responsibility for the task, and relevant education and/or experience of an individual or a group for the task") of the individual or group they are attempting to lead or influence. Effective leadership varies, not only with the person or group that is being influenced, but it also depends on the task, job or function that needs to be accomplished.
Situational leadership is a leadership style that has been developed and studied by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey. Situational leadership refers to when the leader or manager of an organization must adjust his style to fit the development level of the followers he is trying to influence. With situational leadership, it is up to the leader to change his style, not the follower to adapt to the leader’s style. In situational leadership, the style may change continually to meet the needs of others in the organization based on the situation.

The concern is if the leadership method is effective for that particular setting. The type of leadership style my preceptor has is task-oriented. Spahr defines task-oriented leadership as, “leadership that focuses on completing a job and concentrates on tasks that have to be done, rather than who is doing them” (Spahr, 2015).
Steve Jobs, the founder of the multi-billion dollar company Apple and was the flagship leader of Apple till his death, once said “My job is not to be easy on people. My job is to take these great people we have and to push them and make them even better.” What Steve Jobs is stating is that he isn’t an easy going boss but rather pushes the people under him to work even better than they are. A leader doesn’t have to be a ruthless, cold person, or a down-to-earth relatable guy, but rather somebody who can motivate, control, and attempt to steer their crew in the right path of success and prosperity, quite in the literal sense for Odysseus. Odysseus is the main character in Homer’s
Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership theory suggests that a successful leader will base their leadership style on the ability and willingness of their followers (Langton, Robbins, Judge, & Breward, 2013). The movie, Remember the Titans, centres on the developing relationship between the football team and their leader, Coach Boone. In the beginning of the movie, it is apparent that the followers were both unable and unwilling. The first instance being, when they are introduced to the coach and the new mixed race players who were now going to be a part of the team in the gymnasium.

He was the most enthusiastic pioneer one could seek after, an inspiring power without parallel. His initiative, characterized by his identity attributes, could be over served and assessed from the point of view of a few models and hypotheses. (Kutsar Vadim, 2014). Steve Jobs was a magnetic business person whose business achievement held overall intrigue his profession way was exceptionally noticeable and exceedingly one of a kind. His initiative was developed with advancement, change and reflection.
ANALYSIS OF LEADERSHIP STYLES AND MUSKS’ LEADERSHIP STYLE 2.1 Introduction to leadership An effective leader is someone who knows how to inspire and relate to subordinates, knows how to increase the employees’ motivation and make employees loyal to the organization. (Alkahtani, 2015) Leadership style is the approach an individual use to steer people in the direction that they are going in. Analysis has identified a range of leadership styles based on the number of followers. the most applicable leadership style depends on the operate of the leader, the followers and also the situation.
Task-1 Describe how and to what extent does Steve jobs careers illuminate the difference between leadership and management styles? The choice of Steve Jobs for this case study draws in many aspects of the theories of leadership and reminds us of one further thing: that successful leaders may sometimes divide the world into two camps: those who adore the leader and those who cannot stand him(or her). This phenomenon is not so unusual: it was true of Margaret Thatcher’s political leadership, for example, and of many military leaders over the centuries.
At Apple, Steve Jobs was firmly believed that it is essential to encourage the employees and make them show the best. New contemporary styles of leadership have emerged that arguably are more successful in the long term (Dawson & Andriopoulos, 2014). This report critically evaluates different styles of leadership to determine if a transformational style will have a more decisive effect on employee motivation and organisational culture culminating in long term prosperity of the business. Fresh perspectives to leadership are required if organisations are to be successful in times of change while at the same time increasing employee morale (Conger, 1999). Studies done by Burns (1978) differentiates between transactional leaders and transformational leaders.
In this regard, leaders and managers can appear at any level of an organisation and are not exclusive of each other (Germano, 2010). Leadership theories identify leaders based upon traits as well as how their influence and power is used to achieve organizational goals and objectives (Germano, 2010). As such, trait based characteristics include leaders such as autocratic, democratic, bureaucratic and charismatic. On the other hand, leadership that is viewed from the perspective of the exchange of power and its utilisation to secure outcomes, are situational, transactional and transformational leaders (Germano, 2010). It is of paramount importance to consider the different types of theories of management and leadership and their potential impact on organizational strategy being that management and leadership plays a vital role in the success of businesses.
M2. Strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to situations within the work environment faced by the Management and leadership at Ford. The strengths of situational leadership is that there it creates excitement for the employees as this is the best leadership style and it is possible for the employees for follow it. It builds good unity between employees and helps to make decision as it involves boosting the motivation.
Through self-reflection and academic readings, I have discovered that I identify with three different leadership theories. During the first meeting in a Strength Based Leadership class, we were asked to write our leadership history. The class then began an ongoing exploration of various leadership theories. Upon reviewing my leadership history from the first class and synthesizing the information from the theories that were examined, I discovered that I most resonate with the Trait Leadership Theory, the Skills Leadership Theory, and the Path-Goal Leadership theory. These theories are leader focused, describing the process and techniques a leader uses to accomplish goals.
Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Inc. is the leader about whom, the current assignment will be based upon. Jobs depicted the execution of an autocratic leadership style in his initial years but changed to transformational leadership style later. Allio (2010) criticized the autocratic leadership style of Jobs for being arrogant and egoistic. It is thus analyzed from the study that the perceptions of the followers regarding the leader matters considerably for a leader to become a role model. However, Hurley-Hanson, and Giannantonio (2013) highlighted the effective persuasive leadership style of Steve Jobs through his initiative of discussing the vision and strategic plans for NeXT with his employees.
If the behavior theory can identify the key determinants of leadership, people can actually train to become a leader. This is the premise of the management development plan. There are many different types of behavioural leadership styles. According to this theory the best leaders are those who best adapt themselves to the situation. An adaptive leader might look at cues such as the type of task and who is involved in group, to better their judgement. A study on university employees on situational leadership found results that indicated a situational factor in leadership when solving different job tasks (Fernandez & Vecchio, 1997). This theory has an application for the EPP that I took part in, throughout my experience I was faced with tasks that we as a team had to overcome, it became clear that the role of leader changed dependant on the task. An example would be creating the design and speech for the new PowerPoint presentation for recruitment of student staff.
