All in the Family, A Way of Life
The family system relationships or family's dynamics in recovery goal are to regain control with interventions, to sustain stability and adhere to the change in the family subsystems. The perception of a family system is to maintain stability, constant change, and increase the complexity over time. “The process of substance abuse trickle down and affect not just the individual, but the entire family because of genetics, physiological, emotional or family functions factors” (Cook, 2007, pg.131).
Another key point, is the ability to adapt and change when in recovery mode and sustain in way of empowering family strengths and resources, to lessen the impact of substance abuse. Secondly, the family recovery system

Secondly, establishing a safe place for all family members, map out the boundaries, determine who is the hierarchy in the family structure by evaluating and assessing the family, and transform the structure by diminishing the signs/indicators identified in the assessment with intervention methods. The key concepts of structural family therapy include family rules, sustain homeostasis, compose healthy relationships and principles, by examining the cover or overt rules that govern the family. Furthermore, instill the pattern/function within the family to address challenges head-on without chaos and dysfunction, to join the family system and understand the symmetrical relationships, while recovery of an individual …show more content…
Also, community support groups assist in encouraging and reminding an individual/s of the consequences of alcohol and other drugs and the benefits of abstinence and sobriety of substance abuse. “Surviving normal and unexpected traumatic events require human beings to rely on community connections and family support, so people can grow stronger through adversity, rather than being overwhelmed from the issues affecting homeostasis” (Landau, 2010, pg. 522). Nevertheless, community resources are a total supportive measure with substance abuse with the goal to incorporate harm reduction and minimize direct/indirect effects of substance use. With the attention to, family health, social economics, and the environment associated with substance abuse, to reduce the risk and an amount of substance abuse
This provides analytical approach to families with problems of low and bad structure in the family relations. Also, Structural Family Therapy is a therapy session that requests the therapist to be involved and active as well in the therapy sessions (www.psychotherapy.net ,video). Therefore, during the video of the family of three which is made up of Adrian, Judy, and Pam. Adrian and Judy are a married couple and the parents of Pam. Adrian and Judy has been through numerous therapists to comprehend their daughter’s Pam anger problem.
Created in 1981, this study has several implications for human addicts. It demonstrates the importance of support and a strong community around the addict during their treatment process. If placed at the Pioneer Treatment Center, Mikayla would be able to have the support of myself, my husband and our friends as she continues to focus on her sobriety. She would be able to work on having a positive, useful life, while gaining the support of loved ones as she finishes out court-ordered rehab and job training. I run a content business from home, so I would be able to visit as often or as little as the treatment center
City Island - Clinical Case Analysis Paper City Island is a movie about the Rizzo family from Bronx, New York and the complixities of their individual lives and how they merge together and are chaotically exposed. In this case analysis I will be using structural therapy to analyze the family’s dynamics and they areas they can improve. How to engage the individuals and whole family in treatment Family Structural therapy is more productive with all members of the family-of-origin present, ideally all would be present in sessions.
Sex offenders, typically male, but can be female, about 25% of child victimizers were 40 years old or older. 71% of male offenders are under the age of 35. Most studies we found only dealt with statistics about whites, African Americans, and Latinos. White sex offenders are found to have a closer relationship with their victim, and are more likely to use force. African American offenders are more likely to engage in vaginal rape and become more violent with their victims.
The support group is an example of how community psychology effectively helps change individuals of illnesses achieve a similar outcome, as discussed in Chapter 8. During the session, there was a recitation of rituals and rules to follow for healthy recovery and acknowledge God as the force for improvement. I have chosen to attend to this particular group because it was different from a standard support group. It was solely focused on the women’s fight against alcohol abuse from college aged to senior citizens. This group shed light on women experiencing a disorder that is not often discussed or tolerated in today’s society because of the social stigma against men and women.
My research showed that there was a correlation between poverty level and alcohol abuse, as stated in the report Understanding the relationship between poverty and alcohol misuse. (Jones & Sumnall, 2016). Community Health Nurses (CHN) can provide recommendations and implement programs that will meet the needs of the community. One of the most effective tools is education, utilizing media with a focus on prevention and treatment will help with this growing problem of alcohol abuse. Also, by emphasizing the roles of families, friends, businesses, faith, and communities in helping with the health-related issue will help with a positive outcome.
There is a growing complexity and diversity in families. Family systems theory provides a foundation for analysis of such complex and diversified families, making it easy to understand for effective therapy (Zastrow &
If the family members cannot think through their responses to relationship dilemmas, a state of chronic anxiety may be set in place. According to Brown (1999.), the primary goal of family systems therapy is to reduce constant tension by enabling knowledge and awareness of how the emotional system functions; and by improving levels of differentiation, where the aim is to make changes for the self rather than on trying to change others. As per Richardson, Gilleard, Lieberman, and Peeler (1994), The short-term goal is to foster better relationships between family members of the different generations by understanding the family system with its rules and balances of power and to mobilize the system by reconstruing these rules and having the family observe its own
Sport teams and family structures share similar characteristics in behavior patterns, hierarchy of power, communications styles, and the development of roles. Researchers postulate that Structural Family Theory could be an effective means to develop interventions for sport team in order to increase team cohesion; thereby increasing performance (Zimmerman, Protinsky, & Zimmerman, 1994). The advantage of such an approach is that a wider interpersonal context could offer new explanations regarding group dynamics and why group members do what they do. For example, if clear lines of power do not exist in a team or a family, then dysfunctional behavior patterns could develop due to a lack of leadership. Role rigidity could be the result of the lack of open communications within the family or team, which could lead to less than optimal systematic functioning due to athletes/family members being so intimidated by the leader that they cannot be authentic due to the inability to express both positive and negative thoughts and feelings.
Scientific evidence has shown that families that maintain certain discipline can help mediate the chaos and stress of addiction. This lack of parental attention seems to be more detrimental to girls and boys; hence, the need for family strengthening interventions that encourage parents to be more involved with their children. (Resnik, 1997) By educating parents with proper information, the parents are able to provide protective factors to their children. The goal of family-based prevention programs is to promote positive behaviour development in youth by instilling proper family relational skills and inculcating behaviours that increase parent/child
In mapping this communication, the eight principles measured by Brown may become apparent not only to the therapist, but for the first time, the family may be able to see just how their functions are impeding the balance of their family and condoning strong exhibitions of universal traits within particular family members. The Bowen family therapy approach is invested in the intergenerational processes that are prevalent between generations (Bohlinger, 2010). By increasing differentiation between family members and between the generations, if possible, giving each triangle meaning rather than repetitive opportunities at increasing anxiety (Bohlinger, 2010). Focusing on this historical perspective, the origin of the family and environmental factors that surround the progress of this family, the genogram focuses itself on growth and self-actualization as the ultimate goal for the intervention (Nichols,
Family Systems Theoretical Connections Within the family systems theory , it primarily is focused on the system and not the individual members. In the book Me, MySpace, and I: Parenting the Net Generation by author Larry D. Rosen, Rosen gives his view of the family systems theory. In the section “Family Systems Theory” the author explains that the system begins with the idea that the family is a whole, but realizes that it is more than the sum, of its parts. (Rosen, 2007)
This is seen when the understanding of femininity evolved from females being expected to stay at home and ensure the well-being of the family; to the present times, where women can be employed and contribute to the financial stability of the family (Langen, 2005). In this way social constructionism can be said to helpful in family therapy in that it recognises the different values and perceptions upheld in large cultural or ethnic groups, and how they help define a functional family relative to a specific time in history (Robideau, 2008). It also recognises that the meaning and interpretation of a reality is created and can be altered through conversation (Robideau,
Family systems therapy is basically evaluating the family system functioning as a unit and there are a few types of family therapy that uses this approach such as “structural family therapy, intergenerational family therapy and strategic family therapy” (Family Solutions Institute MFT Study Guide). The approach I think most useful would be structural family therapy which examines the family relationships, styles and common attitude during a therapy session. This allows the therapist to get a better understanding of what is going on in the family and the best way to solve
The purpose of this paper is to discuss four types of family approaches and provide examples of how to implement appropriate nursing interventions. The four types of family approaches discussed are family as context, as client, as a system, and as a component of society. Each type of family approach is defined and described in detail. An example from my personal experience for each type of family approach discussed is provided to augment the topic. The conclusion provides an overview of the papers contents and identifies the main points discussed to result with improved awareness of how to care for the family as a unit in nursing.
