According to the Ben & Jerry’s Mission Statement, the goal of the company is to integrate product quality with economic success and social responsibility. The key that successfully links these three missions together is the differentiation strategy. A differentiation strategy involves the firm creating a product/service, which is considered unique in some aspect that the customer values because the customer’s needs are satisfied. It calls for the development of a product or service that offers unique attributes that are valued by customers and that customers perceive to be better than or different from the products of the competition. (Dirisu, et al., 2013) through the use of a differentiation strategy the company provides a better product that consumers perceive as being worth the premium price (Thompson and Strickland, 1998) The product aspect of the differentiation strategy requires Ben & Jerry’s to maintain the strictest standards of product quality. This attention to detail can be seen from “cow to cone” as the company says; this means that each step of its supply chain must comply with the company’s three-part mission statement. In its manufacturing operations specifically, Ben & Jerry’s maintains quality procedures for key performance indicators (KPIs) that ensure consistent product quality for every pint produced. (Ackerman & Padilla, 2013) The company wants a brand of ice cream that would be a healthier alternative to the other brands available in

While reading this case study there were some things that I found similar and different about the two companies. Ella’s Kitchen and Viacom Brand Solutions (VBS) are alike because both companies showed foresight in identifying how to tackle their respective issues (Eagle, Dahl, Czarnecka, and Lloyd, 110). They are different because they both had different visions. Ella’s Kitchen was founded in 2005 by Paul Lindley who is a father of two. He envisioned on developing a product that was aimed towards children and contained organic fruits and vegetables.
For the business-level, Trader Joe’s adopted a differentiation focus strategy. According to our textbook with this strategy, Trader Joe’s seeks to differentiate in its target market. They rely on providing better service than broad-based competitors. Specifically, they focus on the special needs of the buyer in other segments (Dess, Page 159). Joe’s differentiates its self from other grocers by providing a unique shopping experience fortified with their private label goods and great service from their crew members.
All of these different drivers allow Chipotle to earn high profits because they increase the customer’s willingness to pay. The differentiation approach has held strong for the brand since 1993. The strength of their stock, high yielding profits and imitating competitors are all examples of the differentiation strategy being a success within the firm. Chipotle implements this differentiation strategy by promoting green farm to table.
“Being Green at Ben and Jerry’s” Will’s use of analogy makes the essay interesting; it shows the reader how little the influence drilling would have on the ANWR. Will also makes excellent use of facts and statistics to persuade the reader that drilling in the ANWR would not be a bad thing. He also makes comments about environmentalists and their opinions, which makes the reader interested in his acknowledgment of his opposition, also making him a more credible source. In order to be more persuasive, Will needs to clearly state his position regarding the argument, as well as using more emotional appeal. Specifically, Ralph’s (similar stores are Vons and Albertson’s) and Whole Foods (similar stores are Gelson’s and Trader Joes) are two firms that utilize cost leadership and differentiation. On one hand, we have Ralph’s using cost differentiation by providing a broad range of merchandise at a decent price. On the other hand, we have Whole Foods that has implemented a differentiation strategy by marketing their merchandise as healthier (organic). The trade of for both companies is that they are attracting less consumers by just marketing to a specific crowed. For instance, if Whole Foods had lowered their price and still sold premium merchandise, soon Ralph’s would be in trouble.
Describe the company and its product or service: Dunkin Donuts is big food and coffee chain. It is based in Massachusetts, United States. Its CEO is Nigel Travis. The original Dunkin' Donuts slogan was Sounds Good, Tastes Even Better, and the current slogan is "America Runs on Dunkin'" since March 2006. Dunkin Donuts has more than 12000 restaurants.

Product Differentiation This refers to differentiation that aspires to make a product more attractive by contrasting its unique qualities with other competing products (Investopedia, 2015:1), as in the case of Coca-Cola, other soft drink brands. Successfully adopting this strategy would have a company gaining a competitive advantage, as the customer would then view the product as unique or superior.
