Biome: Tropical Rainforest The tropical rainforest is one of the biomes that are present throughout the earth. The tropical rainforest ecosystem covers approximately 7% of the earth’s surface. Most of the earth’s rainforest are located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. This about a 3,000 mile band around the center of the earth. Due to the location the temperature in the rainforest stays fairly steady, ranging from about 68℉ to 93 ℉, however, the humidity is also consistent ranging from 77-88% and producing 50 - 260 inches of rain a year. An interesting fact is that the tropical rain forest are thought to produce approximately 40% of the earth’s oxygen, despite only covering approximately 7% of the earth’s surface. …show more content…
The trees in the emergent layer are the tallest, some of these reaching 100-240 feet. The trunks tend to be very smooth and branches do not occur until high up. The branches do not start closer the the ground because there is little sunlight for them to grow. The upper canopy trees grow from 60-130 feet. This level houses most of the animals in the rainforest. Because it is so dense and full of food, the animals very rarely have to come out of the canopy to survive. The leaves on these trees have “drip spouts”, which allows the water to run off the leaves and prevents mold and mildew from forming. The understory reaches about 60 feet high and includes the trunks from the upper canopy, shrubs, plants and small trees. This area is very dense and prevents air flow, which causes the humidity to be high and the areas are in the shade. The forest floor is almost completely shaded except for rare areas where a tree has fallen. The leaves and things that fall from the trees are quickly decomposed and reabsorbed, however the topsoil in these areas is of very poor …show more content…
Phuket, Thailand is the largest island in Thailand, and is approximately 500 miles from Bangkok. Phuket features and tropical monsoon climate due to how close it is to the equator. Phuket’s temperature is on average 83℉, with the coldest temperature being 81℉. Phuket’s weather is typically divide into two different seasons, dry and rainy. The seasons are determined by the tropical monsoons, these are characterised by high winds, that blow from north east producing the monsoons. The other half of the year the winds blow from the south east, which produces the dry season. The dry season typically runs from December to March, however, the tourist traffic is highest during this time and the climate is slightly
The temperature in a rainforest varies from 68 to 93 degrees Fahrenheit. The average temperature of a rainforest is about 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Rainforests are never found in climates with the temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit or below because plants in a rainforest will not be able to survive in the cold weather. In the lower canopy, there is little air movement as a result of the humidity is constantly
Another factor is soil. The soil of a rain forest is rare and mostly acidic so plants depend on large trees falling and decomposing for their food. Also, humans moving into more deeper in forests and wild life ecosystems through expansion. Weather and tropical rainstorms could also be a limiting factor because of the intensity of the storms. ave you ever wonder what it’s like in a rainforest biome? A rainforest is a type of biome that have many tall trees with a warm climate year round and have many rainfall yearly. Daintree Rainforest is one of the rainforest biome on the Earth. The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest rainforest on Earth. It’s located in the region northeast of Queensland, Australia, north of Mossman and Cairns.
General Biology/Ecology of Coast Live Oak The coast live oak is commonly referred to as Quercus agrifolia to the scientific community. A brief description of this species is that it belongs to the Oak Family. It is an evergreen tree that can grow from a range of 10 to 25 meters tall. It also has a broad, dense crown and widely spreading branches all around.
Moreover, I expected to find small plants near the edge and tall trees near the interior because the tall-tree canopy prevented small plants from receiving light to grow near the interior. The Point Quarter Method was used
By their very nature, they embody beauty. But they also pulse with energy and resilience. Tough and resourceful, they battle difficult odds and often win. By a long shot, they outlast humans” (Richard Powers, Gale Literature). Even though trees are living things just like humans, they’re treated differently because of the lack of life
Those fallen leaves are full of all the necessary nutrients that the plants and animals in the soil
The ecosystem that I found to be the most interesting is the Daintree Rainforest. This rainforest is estimated to be 180 million years old and has a very fascinating and distinctive land. The Daintree Rainforest is a tropical rainforest that is located on the north east coast of Queensland, Australia; taking up a total of 0.1 percent of Australia’s land mass. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest existing tropical rainforest in the world and the biggest rainforest located in Australia, it is a total of over 1,200 square kilometers in size. This forest got its famous name from a man named Richard Daintree, a 19th century Australian geologist and photographer.
Winters generally have few extended periods of continuous freezing temperatures and relatively few periods of snow fall. The forest free season is approximately 200 days long. Rainfall is moderate, averaging four to five inches per month. March and December are the wettest months, while June, August, October, and November are the driest months on average. Heavy rainfall of over seven or eight inches occasionally fall in one month, resulting in excessive soil erosion at fields that are left exposed.
The average of the rain fall is about fifty inches but the most important fact is that it is evenly distributed throughout the year. Such a good climate leads to a beautiful plant life. The location of this colony is in between north and south, so it makes temperatures perfect as a prove there are a lot of forests that grow very
The taiga is the largest continuous biome in the world. This biome is located in the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere and is in North America, Asia, and Europe. It stretches across Alaska, Canada, Scandinavia, and Russia; spreading through the Northern Hemisphere. Wolverines prefer colder areas because they use the snow for dens, besides food storage. The rapid destruction of woodlands or removal of trees from forests is known as deforestation. Every year, vast areas of forests are cleared to make way for agriculture and development. Tropical rainforests play important ecological roles: 1. Rainforests are the oldest ecosystems on Earth and house almost half of the world’s flora and fauna. 2.
The forest layer holds the significant to the proper operational of the entire rainforest ecosystem. The forest floor is one of the major sites of disintegration takes place. On the floor is a thin layer of fallen leaves, seeds, fruits, and twigs that very quickly decomposes. Only a thin layer of decomposing organic matter is found. In spite of its constant shade, the ground floor of the rainforest is the location for important collaborations and complex relationships.
Without the transpiration of trees, deforested areas become drier. Changes in weather and shelter cause deforested areas to undergo a tremendous loss of biodiversity. The scientist hasn’t even come close to testing 1% of the plants in the tropical rainforests for medicinal use, but they regularly discover species that are helpful to us the people. But, these forests and their potential benefits are looking like they may disappear by the end of this century if we don’t stop
The best time is March, April and May, September, October, and November. Mid July to September is the monsoon time. November to March is the cold season. The January temperature can be -2 Celsius. The summer temperature remains 22 Celsius and winter temperature remains 7 Celsius.
