In the fourth chapter of the novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card it starts with Graff and another adult discussing how to deal with Ender at the Battle School. They decide that he must be isolated and yet also be able to win followers. Graff insists that Ender is nice but that they need to get rid of that undesirable trait. The other adult mentions that it appears that Graff enjoys breaking the children, but Graff insists that it is only worth it when they are pieced back together stronger than before. Graff takes Ender to the shuttle, before they go on the shuttle that will take them to the Battle School Ender notices that the nineteen other children on the launch are all laughing and joking. Ender was very nervous and this made him very
HE never wanted to kill the buggers he wanted to see if the war was a mistake or misunderstanding. He wanted to talk to the buggers and figure them out. Ender’s ability to see patterns as shown through his ability to reorient his gravitational angle, his great ability to think like the enemy and see from the enemy’s perspective, through his ability to innovate unique battle strategies.
However, his friends now regard him as a teacher and “legendary soldier”. They stopped including Ender in their friendly conversations. Ender yearns to be a part of his old company but is frustrated at being excluded instead. This is evident from Ender’s realisation of his exclusion by his friends to for which he states “How could they think I was part of it? Did I laugh?
Imagine trying to save all humankind. Seems like a pretty big task, right? Try saving the world as a child. As Ender grows through the story, Ender realizes he is more mature for his age than any other boys or girls there. At the start of the story, Ender is visited by colonel Graff to go participate in Battle School.
This automatically causes complications because he was a third child. In this time it was rare to have three kids, so it was likely that Ender would get picked on after the monitor was taken away. The monitor kept anybody from messing with because it helped the government watch him. After Ender get’s the monitor taken off Stilson, a bully in school, starts causing trouble. “Hey Third.’
Enders Game by Orson Scott Cars is about a boy named Andrew "Ender" Wiggins. Ender is the youngest of three Genius Children in his family, and both Peter and Valentine have worn the same monitor that Ender wore. Though neither had the monitor for as long, and neither were selected to battle school. Battle School is the Military Run training facility the trains soldiers from the time they are children to be efficient and effective soldier for the international fleet. Enders success in being selected to train at battle school angers Peter, and upsets loving Valentine.
After all of the trauma, heartbreak, and mental abuse that the Battle School put Ender through, he has finally broken down. Over the course of a few years, Ender’s human endurance has been pushed far past his limits. Once again, he had to force himself onto another as an act of self-defense. Although he did not wish to harm either of his past attackers, Ender did not want to be killed either. After his fight with Bonzo, Ender no longer has faith in the Battle School.
Setting: Enders Game takes place in the Future. It basically has what we have right now, but since it was published in 1977, this is how they thought the future was going to be. The story takes place in 5 different settings, but their are 2 main places, such as Battle School, which is where the I.F (International Fleet, the only army able to fight the buggers.) takes kids to train them to be marines in the fight for humanity. Their is also Fairyland, which is part of a mind game which is used in Battle School.
"…she squeezed his knee…where he had always been most ticklish. But almost at the same moment, he caught her wrist in his hand. His grip was very strong, even though his hands were smaller than hers and his own arms were slender and tight. For a moment he looked dangerous; then he relaxed." () Unknowingly Ender has surrendered to the virtuous boy he once was in exchange for the arduous adolescent he is now, confirming what the Battle School destined him to become.
After going into space for battle training, he becomes isolated from the other students immedetaly. Ender overcoming challenges finally begins to be accepted by the other students, only to be transferred and isolated again.
To win the battle, Ender’s ability to understand the bugger's tactics was needed, but his empathy for the buggers was not. Since Ender Wiggin didn’t want to injure anyone, in fear of becoming like his brother, they made him believe that what he was doing was just a practice simulation and nobody would get damaged by it. By not telling Ender, the authorities were able to get him to command against the buggers and ultimately save the human race. Having Ender assume he was fighting Mazer Rackham gave him motivation to win the final battle because he didn’t want Mazer to win. For example, Ender states, “I won’t let you beat me unfairly---
In the book, it is made completely clear that the system of both the Battle School and Command School are breaking Ender down, ultimately demonstrated by Ender being completely bedridden after the Third Invasion due to everything he’s endured. This also happens with the movie’s presentation of the characters, with more characters being sympathetic to Ender. This completely overrides a plot point in the book,
However, the majority of the battles he fights are constructed and orchestrated and controlled by the Adults. Ender lives in a military archetype which assumes humans are compliant, flexible, controllable pawns, tool to be used for the benefit of others. Ender’s insecurities, doubts and fears, as to why he is so isolated, how he is becoming more like petter, how he is an ostracized genius, all that sets him apart– make him diligent, sympathetic, preservant, resilient, flexible, and above all pliable, impressionable, malleable, qualities far more common in children. Supporting quote: “‘So what do we do now?’ asked Alai.
The first major event that showed Ender enduring some troubles was when he woke up in the middle of the night and found that “there was blood” on his bed, and he had been “gnawing on his own fist” (285) in the middle of the night, in his sleep. This revealed to the reader that the strong and powerful Ender might be beginning to crack and show a
Ender never wanted to kill anyone. If Ender did harm someone he would go into a depression. When Ender did the bugger simulation, after he killed the whole plant of buggers, Ender began to think if he had done the right thing. They have not told him that it is fake, so Ender goes into panic. After all this Ender went away for a good amount of time to a rusty house on the lake.
