Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice It seems that in today’s media there is a constant battle between the pro-life and pro-choice organizations, each of which have their own side and story to tell. “I Was Pro-Life Until I Became a Nurse” by Carrie Denny is an article written by woman who agreed with the Pro-Life movement until she attended nursing school. Denny’s nursing instructor one day shared with her an experience that left her believing she needed to reevaluate her beliefs and where she stood on the issue of abortion. I find Carrie Denny’s story about her transition of beliefs very heart-touching and I hope that her article can also help others realize what it means to be pro-choice. Carrie Denny grew up in a very small town in Tennessee where the …show more content…
Her patient was only 15 and had attempted suicide because her parents had disowned her after becoming pregnant with an unexpected pregnancy. The child’s parents had even filed a court order to have the pregnancy terminated. This child had been abandoned by everyone and had her child taken from her, not by her choice. Denny’s instructor was then placed in a tough situation: to support her patient or to turn her back on her like all the others have done. Of course, like any good nurse, she chose to support her …show more content…
She realized that she would encounter many patients facing many troubles. She began to wonder, “How can you empower women to make better choices for themselves that wouldn't lead to certain things like abortion? Or how can we teach them to be OK with their decision to abort, and move forward with their lives and have a family later? How can we keep the abortion procedure safe and done correctly by providers to protect the fertility of American women for the future?” (Denny, Screen 4) Denny then thinks back to a time when she had a patient who had miscarried at fourteen weeks. The fetus was never expected to live outside of the womb and it was known it would not have made it to full term. Her patient was heartbroken and wished she had terminated the pregnancy ahead of time. Unfortunately, abortion was never an option discussed or offered. Had abortion been considered, Denny’s patient would have had to face the grief of losing a child or would have taken the toll it had on her
Nonetheless, doctors should not help to abort living unborn babies. After all, babies are guiltless and innocent. Martha should have received more help than she did, and she should not of had such a rough scary time. "Between a Woman and Her Doctor", by Martha Mendoza
In her 2005 TV series, Grey’s Anatomy, author Shonda Rhimes constructs Jo Wilson to have an experienced viewpoint, providing a comforting voice to a walk-in patient, Abby, to build a safe and supportive hospital environment. I feel as if this episode provides a lesson for women of all ages around the world who don’t feel like they can speak up and or share their stories. Rhimes puts this episode in place to showcase Jo Wilson's story in order to help others, such as Abby, who needed help, she couldn't get. Treat every woman like their blood. This episode portrays this exactly.
These women have no regrets, no remorse, and are happy they had this choice available. But a growing number of women are speaking up about how abortion affected them
The pro-choice/pro-life is a major argument in politics in the United States today. However it is not so simple as pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice has been coined to mean that women should have the right to choose abortion and it should be a legal option. Pro-life has been connected with the banning of abortion and looking at a fetus as a life so abortion is basically murder. However this pro-life view has gotten very convoluted.
In today’s society, abortion is a controversial topic. Many people dispute if it is moral to eliminate the potential of the unborn fetus or if it is fair to force the parent to keep and raise the baby if the parent isn’t ready. In Sallie Tisdale’s We Do Abortions Here: A Nurse’s Story, the author uses imagery and internal conflict to recreate her experiences as a nurse employed at an abortion hospital. She does this to make her audience understand her and the people who work in abortion hospitals’ perspective.
Abortion remains one of the most controversial issues in our society today. Pro-life supporters are those who are against abortion and who believe abortion is in all cases wrong. Pro-choice supporters are those who are in favor of abortion and who believes that whatever a woman does with her body is her choice. Patricia Bauer and Don Marquis are both scholars who wrote in depth articles explaining their views on abortion in an effort to spur their audience into action. Even though the both share same views, they use different and strong rhetorical strategies, mainly logos, ethos, and pathos, to get their message across their audience and to show the effectiveness and seriousness of their arguments.
Abortion is not only a fluctuating concept in our society, but an ethical and emotional debate, as well. The image I have chosen presents concepts from a cultural and historical background, as well as presents an ethical, emotional, and logical appeal to the audience. The debate about abortion has simply been overblown and exhausted. The truth of the matter is, abortion is murder. Ending a life, whether innocent or guilty, is murder.
There are two sides to this debate in which individuals identify themselves as either “pro-choice” or “pro-life.” Supporters classify themselves as pro-choice, and argue “that choosing abortion is a right that should not be limited by governmental or
It is difficult deciding to have an abortion, and when you decide it is your body being able to do what you want with
The term “pro-choice” has fallen out of favor when the American public. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) recently discovered that the word just does not seem to have the power to motivate the general population in the way it did when it was first coined. And while other pro-abortion groups may continue to use it, Planned Parenthood is attempting to cast a wider net by abandoning it all together. In the modern media culture, the term “pro-choice” has been used for everything from abortion-on-demand to giving parents the option to choosing what kind of school their child can attend throughout their life.
[They hope for “pro-lifers” to join pro-choice activists in preventing unwanted pregnancies.](Wolf, 1997). They feel that a common ground can be met to which these debates will no longer exist. They realize the other side’s arguments and understand some of the cruelty. They still believe in a woman’s choice but wish to prevent pregnancies all together and stop all of the arguments. Abortion has many sides, but a woman’s choice is what needs to be protected.
Abolish Abortion Did you know that just in the United States over 3,000 people have abortions every day? An abortion is when a woman is injected with a fatal substance to kill their unborn baby. It is legal in all 50 states except one type of abortion procedure; Partial-birth-abortion. Women have abortions for many reasons, some being that they are not ready for that kind of commitment or they have been raped and got pregnant. An abortion should never be an option in any case because it’s considered as murder, it causes pain to the person and baby during and after the procedure, and there are other choices to choose from including adoption.
Abortion has been a controversial issue in our society. The options are which path to take in life. The two paths we have to take or to choose from are give the child a chance to live or to be a teenage parent or having an abortion. In the young age of a pregnant women will be the hardest part of her life and when she doesn’t think that she can deal with the fact that she will having a child in young age the only way that she will take would be to get an abortion. The fetus will be decide to abort by their mother resulting in or caused by its death.
Which Theory or Theories Are Being Used Dr. Wilson is using the postmodern approach of nursing theory which is based on a number of philosophical theories that do not attach so much value to the life of a fetus. The philosophical ethicists do not consider the fetus to be part of a human being since it is yet to be (Harris, 2001). Marco is also ready to support the doctor’s recommendation for action that Jessica should do abortion. The doctor does not consider abortion as a violation of any ethical right or moral since in his view, it is a way of helping the patient recover as well as help her gain independence as soon as possible.
For example, finds out whether continuing or terminating a pregnancy cause greater physical or psychological harms and risks to the mother. On the other hand, Bonevski & Adams (2001) further added that abortion may expose the mother to grief and regret. As such, it is important to gain mother’s consent before making the decision. Apart from that, in resolving slightly similar case study of 18 years old student was referred in view of her request for termination of pregnancy. She was gang-raped and found out she is pregnant.
