In his historical metafiction In the skin of a Lion, Ondaatje explores the importance of storytelling and the authority and power that comes with it. “Patrick's gift, that arrow into the past, shows him the wealth in himself, how he has been sown into history. Now he will begin to tell stories. He is a tentative man, even with his family. That night in bed shyly he tells the story of the nun”. This is the first example of someone, in this case, Nicholas Temelcoff, being empowered by the knowledge of his past and his importance in history. Patrick researching the building of the bridge and uncovering that Alice was the nun ,and Temelcoff saving her when she fell from the bridge, was what caused this. Edgar Allan Poe wrote many thrilling and allegorical short stories, which are very similar to each other when closely looked at. “Hop-Frog” and “The Cask of Amontillado” are two very intriguing stories that have many similarities and few differences; in the end, it is revealed that the themes are strikingly similar. These two thrilling stories reveal that the unstable trait that is pride has many detrimental effects. Pride is what drove Montresor and Hop-Frog to kill their oppositions.

Within Michael Ondaatje’s novel, In the Skin of a Lion, reoccurring themes of blindness and misuse of poor immigrants remain evident. By connecting both themes together as a reader I begin to understand the narrator 's concerns. Ondaatje usage of blindness to illustrate misuse of immigrants and the poor during the construction of Toronto landmarks can be found on a smaller scale embedded within the novel. “Among the tree over the distance he saw what looked like more bugs. In the novel Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya, the play A Midsummer’s Night Dream by William Shakespeare, and the novella The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, all contain examples of the these specific topics. These pieces of literature all share common themes of family, magic, and betrayal.
Margaret Lazarus’ essay All’s Not well in Land of the Lion King details her opinion in the classic Disney movie. She states how she believes the movie is racist, sexist, and anti-gay. While it’s not difficult to see where she’s coming from, most of her points are far-fetched at best. Another major point Lazarus tried to make clear in her essay is that The Lion King is sexist. Her main concern was that the obviously very strong lionesses were not able to fight back against Scar and the hyenas.

Imagine walking into a room and being instantly identified as a criminal. Imagine having to experience this in every room you enter. Imagine walking into a store and being watched, expected to be a thief or sometimes even expected to reveal a knife, gun or a bomb. When we meet new people, most of us look for differences rather than similarities. From young we are taught that everyone is different and that continually makes us associate others by these differences.
The movie, The Lion King, includes several different demonstrations of leadership theories. By following the story of a young lion, whose father is the king, and their “pride” or community, the film shows an array of different leadership approaches from two main leaders (Allers and Minkoff). The most prominent leaders in The Lion King are Mufasa, the king of the “pride lands” and the main character’s father, and Scar. Scar is Mufasa’s bitter and jealous brother that rules over the hyenas just outside of the “pride lands” (Allers and Minkoff).
