“Anonymity was one of the major perks of the OASIS. Inside the simulation, no one knew who you really were, unless you wanted them to. Much of the OASIS’s popularity and culture were built around this fact.” (pg. 28) This attests to the addiction of the OASIS, in which I connote anonymity within a virtual world with an addiction that we can’t stop ourselves from consequently consuming our daily lives. The anonymity comes back later in the book to deceive Wade, especially when he meets Aech in reality. “Shock gave way to a sense of betrayal. How could he - she - deceive me all these years? I felt my face flush with embarrassment as I remembered all of the adolescent intimacies I’d shared with Aech. A person I’d trusted implicitly. Someone I thought I knew.” (pg. 318) When Wade thought anonymity ‘was one of the major perks,’ he believed it would only disguise who his “best friend” was as someone who wasn’t too different in reality instead the anonymity “perk” disguised real personalities and is a deceiving trick of the OASIS yet also effective in protecting people’s privacy. Fortunately, their friendship was resilient even after they met in the real world. In addition, the anonymity of the virtual

In A Separate Peace, the reader can see that Finny’s death was part of a chain reaction caused by Gene. His death shows that a person not knowing their identity and who they are could affect other people and not just themselves. In the past few years humans have spent much more time indoors with their technology than outdoors. Televisions, computers, and smartphones tend to draw greater numbers of people inside their homes, just as humans did in the futuristic world of Leonard Mead where no one left their homes at night. (“The Pedestrian”). Children especially have been infected with the media bug, much like Peter and Wendy, who are unable to stray away from their virtual reality in “The Veldt”. It is understandable that many-particularly older- people believe that technology is affecting how human naturally interact with each other and their surroundings.
In John Knowles’s novel A Separate Peace Identity is shown as what defines us and makes us be placed in other peoples perspectives. An author can use identity to place characters in the readers mind to portray them a certain way, just as John Knowles did in A Separate peace. An identity can be defined as who a person is inside and out.
Ernest Cline, author of Ready Player One, and Homer, author of The Odyssey, both come from different backgrounds but both share a common storyline within their writings: the pattern of “the hero’s journey”. Both Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One and Homer’s The Odyssey tell the story of two men escaping their homelands to undergo life-threatening adventures. However, the characters, Wade Watts and Odysseus, differ personally. Although Odysseus from The Odyssey, Homer’s epic, and Wade Watts from Ready Player One, Ernest Cline’s dystopian novel, both leave their childhood homes to undergo life-threatening quests, Odysseus shows little personal growth throughout the story, remaining as an arrogant, self-centered man, while Wade Watts progressively develops as a character, as he transforms from “a painfully shy, awkward kid” to the winner of James Halliday’s sought after Easter Egg.

When Ritchie leaves he never returned. Then, the man and the bar owner go looking for his wife and kid, and they had all been bitten by vampires.
Instances of Displacement In Neil Gaiman’s “Bitter Grounds” “In every way that counted, I was dead,” begins the narrator-protagonist of Neil Gaiman’s “Bitter Grounds”, hinting at the theme of a profound shift in identity that will soon be explained. Indeed the reader will soon be introduced to a subtle slip from one reality into another through the eyes of a man faced with loss, love and his own identity. The elements of fantasy heighten the sense of displacement that accompanies the narrator from his initial purposelessness and self-exile, through the shaping of a new identity and search for a new purpose to his final act of abandon in the end. The idea of displacement, as evidenced by the very volume that features the story discussed
