In the article, “Scientists MRSA Germ in Supermarket Meats,” by Steven Reinberg. The author talks about MRSA germ and how it was found in meat at supermarkets. It explains how the germ it’s being introduced by human food handlers. It also explains how people that have cuts or sores in their skin can be more likely to get infected. Research found that humans can transfer the bacteria to meat. A study was conducted by Zhang’s team to see which meat was contaminated by MRSA.
From this article I found out that the risk of becoming infected is high if you have open cuts or sores. Cooking kills the bacteria, but consumers have the risk of getting infected by handling the meat that is contaminated by the germ. I also learn that MRSA has always been found in human. The bacteria can be transfer from human to meat or from meat to human. MRSA can be found in the environment and the germ was also found in pigs.

According to Joseph Castro a contributor from the website Live Science,” Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, is a strain of staph bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotics normally used to treat such infections” (Castro 2013). Someone could have thought that the meat was just hot dog meat; he or she could have unintentionally eaten it. After eating some tacos at a Mexican restaurant, he started to have excruciating stomach pains and diarrhea. Harding’s stomach was hurting because of some frozen hamburgers he ate a couple of days ago. Those same hamburgers provided by Hudson Foods were infected with E. coli 0157:H7. Millions of those same frozen hamburgers had already been sold and most likely eaten.

Although the first dose of penicillin was used in 1941 by Albert Alexander, it was still a life-changing discovery as it changed the lives of many - even after the period of 1918s1939s (Wood, 2010). The discovery of penicillin allowed a lot of life-threatening diseases to be treated, such as bronchitis, tonsillitis, and pneumonia. Penicillin is known to save millions of lives. Indeed, in just World War Two, the death rate because of bacterial pneumonia would go from 18% to 1%, because of the invention of penicillin.
This disease has had outbreaks in Europe and North America. In England, “100,000 cases were confirmed by 1993, 5 million cattle were slaughtered and dozens of people died of the deadly human form of the disease, which is thought to be contracted from eating tainted meat” (Mother Earth News). Following this outbreak the United States temporarily stopped the imports of European beef, but it is believed that some products still passed through ports. The outbreak in England is an example of the result of using the now banned but poorly policed practice of feeding sheep, deer, or cattle meat and bone meal to cattle even though cattle are not omnivores.

Theresa Drew, mother of Ricky Lannetti, tells the story of her son’s fatal experience. Ricky Lannetti was a strong and athletic twenty-one year old. Ricky had contracted Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), or better known as the “superbug”. He had reported having common flu-like symptoms leading up to the climax of this infection.
