Summary Of 'The Bicycle' By Jillian Horton

The Devil’s Arithmetic, a novel by Jane Yolen, is very inspiring to me. It explains the feelings of not only just Hannah, but many others. It lets me know that in any situation, you can always persevere. Although this book can be sad, the sadness is powerful. It takes you to a whole new perspective of the Holocaust, not just through facts, but actually living it.

What follows is a story of hope, terror, and courage. Hannah meets Rivka

Growing up is a part of life , but with growing up we go through phases and life experiences. Author Gary Soto tells a little bit if his similar life experiences in his two stories “Broken Chain”, “Seventh Grade”, and small narrative poem “Oranges”. “Broken Chain” is about a boy named Alfonso who was insecure. One day he meets a girl named Sandra who he went to school with and thought she was cute. Alfonso asks her is she would want to go on a bike ride

The Cellar by Natasha Preston is about 16 year old girl named Summer who is the main character in the story. In Summer’s small town where there is no excitement ,something finally happens and it involves Summer. On one night Summer was kidnapped and was took to a cellar and to her surprise she isn’t the only one. Along with three other girls named Rose,Poppy,and Violet, who have been down in the cellar. All four of the girls know one thing they have to survive and that is to stay alive.

The author uses Hannah’s personality traits to show the theme of the story of never lose hope in the most difficult times. For example, the narrator, the speaker of the story, “Early the next morning, Hannah began looking for the ivorybills and quickly discovered what a daunting task finding the birds was going to be. It was no wonder Mr. Tanner has gotten confused. There were no vacancies in the birdhouses”(Smith 27).

What this means is that Hannah knows that she is alive and now knows how the “devil plays” with her mind. The manipulation has not tricked her and this is a point in which she can find light because her

The novel by Kristin Hannah, The Nightingale, was truly a remarkable and unbeatable story depicting two women who have taken extremely opposite stands in regards to Nazis occupation in France. Throughout the storyline, Hannah was able to weave the ink on a page into wondrous and thrilling narrations from these two sisters. Indeed, one almost feels as if they were completely submerged in the mind’s of these dynamic characters. In a way, Vianne and Isabelle can be compared to the actions of the natural elements of fire and water. One goes with the flow, not really pushing against the current; while the other blazes against everything in its path, not stopping for anything, or anyone.

In August Wilson’s play The Piano Lesson, Berniece struggles to come to terms with the violence in her family’s past. Berniece relocates up north to escape the violence prevalent in her family legacy. Berniece is unable to reconcile with this fact, because of this she is unable to discuss this part of history as well as other aspects of her family history with her daughter Maretha. Berniece’s hesitation to reveal this truth to her daughter is detrimental because of the fact that Maretha is oblivious to an important part of her family history.

She “... practised every day for Tante Rose” (Horton, 2). Anyone with a hobby or job that they perform on the daily can speak to the devotion it requires to not get burnt out or uninspired. Practising every day implies that Hannah is diligent, and the fact that she did it for Tante Rose further proves her devotion, both to her future career and her aunt. In fact, Hannah moves in with her aunt in order to “... devote all [her] free time to [her] studies in piano” (2). Her devotion to piano outweighed her willingness to stay with her family, a quality that few possess.

Everytime she sat down to play she could not make her hands move. In conclusion, Billie Jo and her father suffer from a lot of loss and grief. Billie Jo’s father loses his wife, Billie Jo loses her best friend, and Billie Jo loses the ability to play the piano for a few months. They learn to overcome these hardships by learning to live without the things they lost.

Hanna has what the narrator describes as the perfect life. Her parents are together, her house is friendly and her dad even visits their fifth-grade class. The two best friends were perfectly content with their life and no matter what they would not be separated nor turn against each other. “We were the girls with the wrong school supplies, and everything we did after that, even the things done just like everyone else, were the wrong things to do” (Horrock 473). Hanna and the narrator did not care whether they were doing the wrong thing socially, as long as they had each other.

“Even the Matching of Spouses was given such a weighty consideration that sometimes an adult who applied to receive a spouse waited months or even years before a Match was approved and announced” (Lowry 48). In the novel The Giver by Lois Lowry, there is a community where there is almost no decision or say in any situations, you wake up tomorrow, and it is the same as yesturday. Nothing is ever unique or different, it’s always the same. Every choice is made for them, every move the make being decided for them. This is how it was in the community, everything was the same always.

All things in life can be enjoyable but also unexpected. Everyone has their own natural high. My natural high is riding my dirt bike. Even though riding my dirt bike is fun, it can also be very dangerous. It is very important to always wear safety gear while operating an off-road vehicle.

I was finally stepping outside my comfort zone learning to ride a bike. The most memorable time in my life was the time my dad taught me how to ride my first bike. At the age of six he taught me the basics of riding a bike. Along with rules that were set in order to help me be responsible with my bike. I learned to ride a bike without training wheels.
