The poem ‘Borders’ by Tara Evonne Trudell relates to a current social justice issue by highlighting what it is like to live in a country that segregates. Trudell explains that the border is an obstacle that tells us what to do. It tells us how to act, where to live, and even tells us to separate from our roots. It keeps families apart; it causes death by being trigger happy and it prevents people from living naturally. Migration is part of life, and with a border that makes it nearly impossible. Because of this it has become an important issue, but it has also been desensitized. We constantly hear terrible things that happen to people when they are crossing, or even near the border, and as a result we as a society have started to turn a blind eye. What …show more content…

We as people should not forget where we came from, and we should fight to get our homes, cultures, and family back.
The poem ‘The Ones Who Live On’ by Nancy Aide Gonzalez not only highlights another current social justice issue that is happening here in America, it is a poem that I personally was able to relate to. In the poem, Gonzalez discusses her life growing up with a line of strong women. She describes what their daily tasks were like, how they held themselves up when times were tough, and how they have carried on through all these years. Personally, my family has a long line of women, there are currently only three males in our entire family. A lot of what Gonzales describes related to a lot of the things I do in my household currently like washing clothes on a board and cooking beans every day
