Blue Heaven by C.J. Box is a page turning novel complete with various storylines that all seem to come together in the end, unsuspected twists, and complex characters. In the beginning of the story, siblings Annie and William Taylor disobey their mother and go fishing by themselves. While the are out at Sand Creek, they witness a cold hearted murder on a campground across the river. The four executioners, who happen to be ex-cops from Los Angeles, are now chasing them through the woods of Northern Idaho; these men are determined to make sure that their secret stays hidden and that the children do not make it out of the forest alive. The term is a metaphor that implies that Northern Idaho is “a calm place for retired police officers to move” when their duties are done (85), a place where they can escape from all of the danger that comes with being a cop. Many former police officers moved to Northern Idaho from Los Angeles and it’s surrounding areas to experience the peace and serenity of being close to nature. Except, the four cops that were chasing after Annie and William came to Kootenai Bay to escape certain memories from their past. The cop’s job was to protect people, but instead they got greedy and wanted more money to satisfy their unneeded wishes. During the heist, one of the guards driving the cars was shot and died. Instead of confessing the crime, they let innocent employees from the racetrack get arrested. They cover up their misconduct like selfish cowards. They moved to the “Blue Heaven” not to find peace, but to hide from anyone that would be able to figure out their secret and connect them to the crime. When they moved, they convinced the trustworthy town banker, Jim Hearne, to turn a blind eye as they deposited the large amount of money into his bank. Jim, even though his is a good man, is tempted by the money offered and takes the deal, even though he knows that he will most likely get in trouble for his actions. Eventually, in the end of the novel, the men’s plan crumbles. Through these events, the author shows that even to most deceptive and strategic arrangements can be figured

In the short story, “Lamb to the Slaughter” Patrick, Mary’s husband, goes home and tells Mary that he no longer wants to be with her and their baby. She then proceeds to express her anguish by murdering him and sets up the murder scene so that she would not get caught. Later on, she calls the police and says that her husband was murdered and the detectives try to uncover the murderer and murder weapon. Roald Dahl uses objects and symbols to contextualize his ideas that people go through things innocently without knowing the danger, like a lamb to the slaughter.
Gayle Forman is an author that uses lots of symbols to tell her story. In If I Stay, she uses three symbols to tell the story of Mia. There is also a strong theme and imagery. The main themes are love and choices. The theme is love because if it wasn’t for Mia and Adam’s love, Mia would probably have never woken up from her coma.
The geographical setting in the novel All the Pretty Horses written by Cormac McCarthy can be tied to Thomas Foster's insights in chapter 19 of How to Read Literature like a Professor. In the chapter, Geography Matters…, it introduces geographical symbolism that is apparent in John Grady and Lacey Rawlins’ escapade in rural Mexico. Foster claims cardinal directions can symbolize behavior by stating “when writers send characters south, it’s so they can run amok” (pg. 173). In All the Pretty Horses, McCarthy creates chaos which burdens the boys as they head south. Before leaving America to work in Mexico, they tell a man that they are bank robbers.

Summary Gathering Blue was written by a Newbery Award Winner, Lois Lowry. The book starts off with a girl named Kira, she has a broken leg which keeps her from doing a lot of things. Unfortunately, Kira has no siblings and her mother and father died, which makes her an orphan. This created a lot of controversy, whether or not Kira should stay in the village because she has no guardians to watch her. Kira agreed to live in the Council Edifice where she is given a task for the community after she went to court.
In Trifles, Glaspell uses visual symbols surrounding the murder of Mr. Wright to showcase the different scenes that men and woman saw in the same setting, ultimately leading men to their own failure. The kitchen, quilt, and canary/cage are a few of the many symbols that the men overlooked as they were more concerned about forensic evidence. Furthermore, the same symbols were valued in the women’s perspective which allowed the women to determine the reason behind the death of Mr. Wright. Eddie, an eighty three year old maintenance worker at Ruby Pier, one day loses his life when trying to save a little girl from a falling ride. After he dies he awakens in the afterlife, or heaven. He is then reunited with people he loved and the strangers he has never met.

He used a lot of codes and signs to express his stylish aesthetic violence and sexual implications in his movies. A Clockwork Orange can be considered as one of the best among them. In Mark Twain’s historically fictional novel,The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, two major characters, The Duke and The King, will stop at nothing to line their pockets with whatever they can steal. They work as conmen on the run from the previous town they swindled, and encounter Huck and Jim along the way. Twain’s portrayal of the Duke and the King is reminiscent of many characters who are out for one thing; they want more money.
