Hector Lopez 9/20/17 English 1 When people are born they are occasionally referred to as a Tabla Rasa or a blank slate meaning that as we age and mature we become a composite of all our experiences. Without even thinking we try to preach, spread, and advertise that which has impacted us. This was not the case for Lynda Barry in her comic ‘Lost and Found’ in which she tried to emulate the academic background and reading prowess of a fellow writer. Where she comes across as disingenuous I take pride in the fact that I can call those influences and the impact they left my own. Like in the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan(Crimson Face Piercing the Heavens) it is stated if one were too keep thinking about the past that we would lose the present, and untimely lose the opportunity to make new experiences. This and its core theme of exponential growth boosted my confidence to a point that has not peaked. What I mean by this is that prior to viewing the show I held the approval of complete strangers in such high regard that would cause me to …show more content…
One such creator is Hideo Koijima, a Japanese video game director who worked at Konami mostly known for Contra, Castle Vania, and the series that Koijima made Metal Gear Solid. He influenced me by being a good example of going against the mold and making what would become an international success. One of his first projects is what would lead to the original series of metal gear. When it was a standard to make a 2-D side scrolling action shooter he had to work with the NES and the Famicons limitations at the time and made an overhead stealth game. It would not be till the PlayStation that Metal Gear Solid would reach critical acclaim and would cross over with household names like Mario and

However one might say society is often caught up in the past. The well known catch phrase, “we learn from our mistakes,” has also been a basis for many individuals in achieving prosperity. In the novel the question about the impact of one’s past on their destiny
Lopate explains that it’s natural for essayists to visit their past only because everyone does it at some point in their life. As Lopate states, “The past is frequently and often lyrically visited by personal essayists. The retrospective glance comes naturally to the essayist” (7). People don’t necessarily need to have a reason to think about their past or someone’s else’s past; when they probably don’t know that they are doing it. Focusing on the past is an innate feeling that everyone encounters throughout their life.

The Clue Hunt Mystery What would you do if you had a choice of getting a million dollars or join a clue hunt in a race to create a super serum that could make you the most powerful person in the world? In the 39 Clues, Amy and Dan had to make this decision. While everyone agrees that Amy and Dan are Madrigals and siblings, some believe that Amy and Dan should go for the clue hunt, but others believe Amy and Dan should not go for the clue hunt. Amy and Dan should go for the clue hunt for three reasons: Amy and Dan have what it takes to do it, they would make Grace proud, and they are Madrigals.
I was a blank slate for my family to build upon; to raise the perfect daughter who abides by the norms that they are familiar with. Those norms include how I should behave, my mannerisms, and the goals that I must attain throughout my life. Shielded in my household and not allowed to interact with the environment around me at a young age, I was oblivious as
There is a famous quote that goes "The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday". In a survey done by the University of Maryland studies showed 80% of people who where indecisive about what their future had in store for them where just focused on bettering themselves. I identified with her soul-shaking experience when she profoundly realized, “It is a strange feeling to grow up defining yourself as something when you don’t know if that something is actually true.” I struggled in an introductory composition course at Virginia State University (VSU), and after giving each assignment my all, still
Many people disregard the idea of young people being able to learn aspects of intellectualism through worldly experiences. When it comes to the modern idea of being intellectual, most people believe that subjects such as history or science, have more value than fashion or sports. Few people are able to realize the connection between academic intellectualism and street smarts. Students who have a hard time learning general concepts in classrooms tend to have an easier time recognizing, and learning those same concepts in the real world often without even realizing it. For example, take a child who has a difficult time focusing on history lessons in the classroom, but enjoys learning about the background of football teams and their players;
The characters and conflicts reinforce the idea that if you do not learn from the mistakes you have made in the past, you can repeat them. To
An Appreciation for Time Memories make up who people are. Whether they be good or bad, these events shape the very being of mankind. It is, however, what memories that stick to the mind that speak a thousand words to who the person is. The concept of memory is discussed in the words of Tobias Wolff in his short story “A Bullet in The Brain”. Wolff writes of Anders, a book critic turned misanthropist through being consumed by his trade.
This article will bolster my argument by providing these numerous examples and allowing me to explore and present the thoughts of another writer exploring a very similar topic. Ultimately, in my paper, this source will serve as a jumping-off point for many of my arguments. In doing this, I hope to employ it early and often to give my paper frame, direction, and purpose. “My biological mother was a young, unwed graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption” (Jobs, 2005, Pg.1). This detached sense of emotion conveyed an ominous sense of tone between the speaker and the audience. Jobs generated a poetic diction through the phrase “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards” (Jobs,
