This rejection was with his mother and his grandfather (Samuel). Samuel was described as a horrible person. Despite his unassuming demeanor, Bundy had a fascination with violence and sex from an early age. Bundy's first known murder was that of Karen Sparks, a college student in Seattle, in January 1974. Over the next four years, he went on to murder at least 30 young women across seven states, though the actual number of his victims is still unknown.

Theodore Robert Cowell was born on November 24, 1946 at the Elizabeth Lund Home for Unwed Mothers to Eleanor “Louise” Cowell. Because his mother was young and unwed, and had no idea where Ted’s father was, his grandparents, Samuel and Eleanor Cowell, raised him as if they were his parents and his mother was his sister.
Most of his victims were young college-aged girls. He would always use a similar tactic to lure his victims to him. He would normally act disabled, and he would use his charming personality to ask for help putting something into his vehicle. Then when they would get to his car he would force them inside, and that would be the last time the victims would ever be seen(Bundy). Ted Bundy’s first known murder, was Lynda Healy.
In fact, Bundy wasn’t extremely intelligent, and was not a genius, he only had an IQ of about 124, and he was not wildly successful in school, he was an average student who actually failed out of college after being dumped by a girlfriend, though he did return to school at a later date and finish (Michaud & Aynesworth, 2000). Even so, there was something that everyone could agree upon, Theodore Bundy was a deranged sociopath who became famous for murdering all of his victims, he was one of the serial killers to become extremely famous because of his killings, and some would say that he seemed happy to be getting all of the recognition (Michaud & Aynesworth, 2000). With articles written about him titled, “Bundy: The Man, The Myth, The Legend” he had truly become a legend (Caputi, 1989). These are only a few examples of how the media portrayed Bundy and how that caused the public to see and talk about
Americas notorious serial killer Introduction Theodore Robert Bundy, known as Ted Bundy, was a serial killed and rapist born on November 24, 1946. He was executed on January 24, 1989, in Starke Florida. It is unclear whether he began to kill his victims in 1974 or if it started earlier. A few of his victims survived their attacks and have spoken about what happened to them while a few are still listed as “missing person” cases that are still cold.
All these experiences Bundy went through led him to get picked on in school by Bundy's peers. This resulted in a very cold and bitter young Ted Bundy. In Bundy’s later years, Bundy would stalk girls in his class and steal old pornography magazines out of the trash. Bundy also had a reputation for being heavily materialistic. He would always get into conflicts with his stepfather
Over the coming months and years, more disappearances followed. Ted's victims were generally young attractive women with dark hair parted in the middle. His modus operandi (M.O) was to approach his potential victim while simulating he had an injury or disability. (For example, by wearing an arm-sling or a cast) ask them to help him carry his books or packages. He led them to a secluded area and when they were alone he would knock them on the head with a crowbar, stuff their bodies into his car, strangle them while they were unconscious and then rape their deceased bodies.
Later, in 1975, he was pulled over and arrested for the first time for possession of robbery tools such as a crowbar, facemask, rope, and hand cuffs, but, because of insufficient evidence, he was released being kept under strict surveillance. In November 1974 Carol DaRonch was attacked in Utah. She was the only victim to escape and tell the police a description of his car and give them a sample of his blood that was on her clothing. Within 24 hours Bundy had already captured another victim, Debbie Kent. Around this time his grave yard, filled with many bones, was found in Washington.
Ted Bundy Theodore Robert Cowell, also know as Ted Bundy, was a vicious criminal from Burlington, Vermont. He was shy yet bright and smart. It has been reported that he murdered and assaulted more than 30 women. It also has been said that Ted suffered both physical and psychological abuse during his childhood years, which caused him to have difficulties in forming relationships and trusting other people. Although he had graduated college so that he could have a degree in law, he had found his passion first, which was hurting women.
The following year, he was pulled over by the police. A search of his vehicle uncovered a cache of burglary tools—a crowbar, a face mask, rope and handcuffs. He was arrested for possession of these tools and the police began to link him to much more sinister crimes. In 1975, Bundy was arrested in the kidnapping of Carol DaRonch, one of the few women to escape his clutches.
Ted’s violent side was thought to be inherited from his grandfather who had allegedly raped and abused Ted’s mother. This lead many to believe that Ted’s grandfather was actually his father. Ted in his early life also believed this, therefore he became a role model for Ted which shows why Ted would eventually carry this violent side in his life. Ted’s biological father was never known. This meant that she dated a string of men and one of these men became her husband and was a major influence on Ted and he lead him to change his name to Ted Bundy.
