She was one of many that was chosen to take a test to determine if she could attend at the desegregated school. The test was really difficult and the idea was that if none of the African American children passed, the school could prevent being desegregated for a few more years. She lived five blocks away from an all-white school but had to attend an all-black segregated school several miles away. Her courage showed that no matter what, never give up. She had to face racism and shunning, but she held strong and kept her mind set on a goal.

After this incident, she was receiving phone calls from people threatening her, and they said to be from the Ku Klux Klan. While she was involved with the Civil right movement another thing that she made a bid impact on was World War II. She worked for the French Resistance. She was able to do this by collecting information about German troop locations and many other important information from others she met at parties. One of her special qualities was charming people, while still gathering information.

For example, Malala Y. went on a TV show called Comedy Central. When Malala was 15, two Taliban soldiers shot her in the head because she tried to stand up for girls education. She explained how the Taliban came and started shutting down schools. She mentioned that her father was a great encouragement to her and was the reason she continued speaking. She explained that she tried to go to every media show she could find to spread the word.

So many people heard her concerns and wanted to help the cause. The word of her organization spread like wildfire to places that she wouldn’t even expect. Many people were against her word and thought she was completely out of line with being a colored

Malala has always stood up for her rights and spoke out if something was unjust but when she stood up to the Taliban they tried to take her voice away. The Taliban thought violence would take away her strength, but they were wrong. Malala was in the hospital for weeks and it took a long time for her to recover but once she did her voice became even louder than before. Malala was getting tons of attention and this caused her to become more well-known, and even more people got the chance to hear what she had to say.

The article, “Food Waste Is Becoming Serious Economic and Environmental Issue, Report Says,” by Ron Nixon, talks about food waste and of plans on how to stop it. Specifically, Nixon argues that there are millions of people all over the country that don’t have enough to eat. Also that there are people that go to bed hungry most days, while others are throwing away extra scraps they didn’t eat. Nixon writes about the tons of food thrown in the trash every week, resulting in economic and environmental issues. Also about how the Earth’s landfills then get filled up with even more garbage.

Who is Alex Lin? According to take part T.V, in 2004 9 year Alex Lin from Westerly, Rhode Island, came across an article about e- waste (electronic waste). It described the dangers of e-waste, and the toxic waste found in electronics, and right then and there he decided he wanted to change something he wanted to make a difference, he wanted to stop the dumping of e-waste. E-Waste Based on the article “Alex Lin, Teenage Activist”, by take part, e-waste is electronic waste , therefore if you throw away your old phone T.V, computer, etc, it becomes e-waste.

John Tierney’s piece is very interesting. It goes against I and many other people have been taught when it comes to recycling. As I read his article I kept saying to myself, oh wow, I never taught of that or that is an interesting perspective. When it comes to the environment I am not someone who keeps up with it

Who is an Example of a Mockingbird? It’s easy to do at least one good thing in your lifetime, but it's different when you spend your entire life dedicated to only doing things that impact a person’s life positively. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, that is what’s described as a mockingbird; “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us (Lee 119).” To summarize, mockingbirds don’t cause harm, but only cause joy, and bring kindness.

Malala stood up against the taliban, and demanded the right of education for girls. She has rallied the world in the fight to educate young girls, and children in general. But her greatest gift has been to demonstrate to everyone around the world, that it is possible to stand up against what is wrong. Malala has shown courage because she knew the risk it would take to advocate for the education of girls. Malala states, “ All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one”.

There were things Malala did to fight for education. Her first public appearance on September 1st was her speech “How Dare the Taliban Take Away My Basic Right to an Education” and that was published throughout Pakistan (Rowell 48). Her father is very supportive of her and allows her to go to school but she sees so many girls who are not as lucky as she is. The main reason why Malala began to speak for girls education was to be the voice for others who are silenced. She started doing interviews for radio/TV stations and even started an anonymous journal where she talked about her as a girl living in the patriarchal Swat.
