The Texas Longhorns
The University of Texas is one of the greatest schools in the country. The University of Texas has had a great history dating back to when it first became a school. The school itself has many traditions celebrated each and every year, mostly during special events. Their sports program is one of the best in the country starting with the Texas Longhorns football team which is ranked as the most valuable school in college football. They have won 5 national titles since they first became a football team. The Longhorns basketball team is also one of the best places for athletes to play basketball for a chance at getting to the pros. They are ranked number 17 in the nation all time in wins and most times getting to the final

The University of Texas has had a great school history since they first founded in 1883. Its campus is located in Austin Texas, the city is also known as the father of the state of Texas. The institution has the fifth largest single campus enrollment in the nation. The university has over 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 24,000 faculty and staff. The University of Texas was inducted into the American Association of Universities in 1929, and became only the third University in the American south to be elected. The University houses about seven museums and seventeen libraries including the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum and the Blanton museum of art. They compete in the Big 12 Conference. The Texas Longhorns basketball team has achieved national prominence under coach Rick Barnes in recent years. The Longhorns have been to fifteen NCAA tournament appearances in the last sixteen years including fourteen straight consecutive appearances as well as fourteen twenty win seasons overall and a school best thirteen straight consecutive twenty win seasons. Since 1977 the team has been playing its home games at Frank Erwin Special Events Center. They have an all-time record of 450-104 in that stadium. The University of Texas started competition in men’s basketball in 1906. The Longhorns rank seventeen in most wins in all NCAA Division 1 college basketball programs and twenty six all time in win percentage among programs with at least fifty years in Division 1. Their all-time record since becoming a team is 1699-1005. The Longhorns have made a total of twenty seven conference championships in men’s basketball and have made 31 total appearances in the NCAA basketball tournament. They have reached the final four three times and the NCAA Regional finals seven times. Texas ranks second tied with Oklahoma among all Division 1 men’s basketball programs for total of NCAA tournament games won without having a national title in history. SWOSU intramural football team, “Happy Campers”, competed in the NIRSA Regional Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska this past weekend. The Happy Campers have won the past four SWOSU Flag Football Championships and have gone undefeated all four years. With that record, the Happy Campers had the opportunity to travel to the University of Nebraska to play in the NIRSA Regional Championship which featured around 40 teams.

Switzer won multiple national championships in his era in Oklahoma. After his legacy in Oklahoma, he went on to coach the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. In the NFL, Switzer won only one Super Bowl.

Johnny Manziel began getting recruited by Texas A&M, Baylor, Iowa State, Oregon, Rice, and Stanford. Johnny Manziel took the offer from Texas A&M on a full ride scholarship. Manziel played with the Aggies for two years it was the 2012 and 2013 seasons. During his freshman year, he led the Auggies to a 10-2 regular season record. During this season, Manziel became the first freshman to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards.

During my experience at Texas Boys State I was able to collaborate and interact with different young men across the state whom many had various beliefs and opinions especially in politics and society. This difference in opinions showed how my perspective of the world is not the same for some other person living in Houston for example. At the time it was a little overwhelming listening to all the debates and opinions for hours but fortunately I came to respect the beliefs of others and not let my personal opinion interfere with theirs. Overall, I had a wonderful experience communicating and working with these young men from various high schools across Texas where I learned that resepct is necessary when dealing with one who belief 's are different

Made an official state in 1845, Texas sure does have history and accumulated quite the attractions. “Remember The Alamo!” by visiting the building itself in San Antonio and enjoy a tour and learn about how the famous saying became. Afterwards, you can watch a movie in the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to catch up on pop culture, or head over to the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk for a fresh taste of nature. There’s also other oddball attractions like the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!
One cannot deny the contributions both men made towards Texas. Lamar’s aggressive approach helped the Republic through hard times and Houston’s timid approach added credibility to the new nation, which helped gain the annexation of Texas.
