The Breadwinner Culminating Writing Assessment
Imagine having to cut off all your hair and become a boy to help your family survive. Imagine having to leave your home to find your mother who is in the dangerous Taliban country. This is what Parvana had to do to persevere. Perseverance is steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty. In the book The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis, Parvana is the protagonist. She goes through many hardships to keep her family alive. Parvana has to persevere through all of the hardships that are thrown at her.
First of all, Parvana also persevered to become a boy. As an example parvana had a very hard time to cut off her long silky hair. But parvana preserved and finally became a boy to help her family survive through the long and treacherous time of the control of the Taliban. The text states, “‘You’re not cutting my hair!’ Parvana hands flew up to her head.” As another example the text states, “Paran realized Mrs. Weera was right . they could hold her down and cut off her hair but for anymore they needed her cooperation. In the end, it was her decision.” This shows that Parvana is persevering through this action because she is does not want to become a boy and not even to mention cutting off her hair. But Parvanna fathoms that she needs to do it for her

This is proven in the text when it states, “‘I’m not sure this is a good idea,’ Parvana said to Shauzia the next morning……….Getting left behind did not sound so terrible to Parvana, but with a quick look across the market to the painted in window with her secret friend, she obediently fell in behind Shauzia.” This evidence shows that even though Parvana didn’t want to dig up bones, she persevered anyway and did it to make more money for her family. Parvana decided that her family was more important than her feelings about bone
Resilience is displayed through the drive shown by the characters in these stories, despite hardships or trauma in their pasts. In The Road, Papa and the boy continue to move forward and “carry the fire”, staying morally true to themselves, even despite the things they had seen. The boy’s mother shot herself, he has seen cannibalism, slavery, and people reduced to monsters and broken shells of humanity, but he is still fighting and trying to be one of the good guys. He still wants to help the little boy when he meets him, still wants to help Ely when he meets them (McCarty, 162); The Boy still has a desire to help people who are suffering. He is starving, but he wants to give away his food so that the people who are good in this world won’t die.

My favorite sentence from this reading had to be, "The arms were in sad shape, because everybody was always sitting on them, but they were pretty comfortable chairs." (Salinger 18). In the short sentence, I furthermore get a glimpse of Holden's voice and personality, this time by seeing him contradict himself. He describes how sad looking and beat up the chair is, yet goes on to say how nice and comfortable it is. This to me is a very important clue to Holden's overall personality in regard to life.
Terror is normally caused by a threat of danger and can cause people to do things they may later regret. To start, Arthur Miller wrote the allegory tragedy, “The Crucible”, with the storyline of the Salem Witch Trials with the underlying story of the Red Scare. Each one brought horror into citizens’ lives, which influenced their actions. In the play, the town of Salem broke out in a hysteria of witchcraft. This caused people to accuse one another in spite of internal or external problems.
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
As she transforms back into a young girl, she recalls that her mother would instruct her “... to shed/ my costume, to braid my hair furiously/ with blind hands, and to return invisible/ as myself / to the real world of her kitchen” (25-29). The way in which she utilizes “to” in the start of every section embodies the conformity that her mother is trying to impose on her. It is no coincidence that the identical form of the sentences of her reverting to the female stereotype directly follows her mother’s orders. All of these actions go against her will to be adventurous, and it culminates in a profound statement on who a person really is. In returning invisible as herself, she explains that the person she is supposed to be is not the real her.

One prime example of learning of out struggle was when the mother gave Jeannette 200 for one summer. She believes that she can make it work, if she works more. The American dream at one point was what drew people to American; the right to life, liberty, and the happiness. The American dream is the hope to acquire currency, large homes, raise a middle-class family, and pursue what brings people joy in life. But in the year 2016, the American dream becomes hard to believe in. The American dream may still exist, but it is not equally accessible to all Americans. This is true because the American dream is not affordable for everyone, it is not available to everyone from different degrees of education, and race and ethnicity creates large social barriers.

1. Introduction In the modest term, a minimum wage is a lawfully authorized minor bound for wages, but the term “lawfully authorised” is unclear, leading too many different kinds of minimum wages institutions (Cunningham et al, 2007:19). It further states that in the most straight forward cases, such as Brazil and Bolivia, the federal government identifies a wage level and all employers in the country must pay at that level or above it (2007:19). Economist have tended to oppose minimum wage on the grounds that they reduce employment , hurting many of those they are supposed to help (the economist:24/11/2012).
Unemployment happens when individuals are without work and effectively looking for work.[1] The unemployment rate is a measure of the pervasiveness of unemployment and it is figured as a rate by separating the quantity of unemployed people by all people presently in the work power.
