Carl sat upon the edge of the lake skipping rocks to pass time. His dad, Rick, came and sat down beside him, easing into the awkward silence that lie between them. "Dad do you think we will ever go back to the way it was before after all of this is over?" Carl asks as he turns over to face his dad, acknowledging his dad's presence. "How what was before?" his dad asks slightly confused "before all of the zombies?" Carl nods, turning away from Rick. "I miss having friends, cars, and electricity. Life is so hard now." Carl mutters out, as a tone of sadness washes over him. "After the apocalypse is over, we can start again. We can start a new company for electricity. We can make new friends and we can try to live life the way it was before." "How can we start a new electric company?" Carl asks with a pitch of curiosity in his voice. "First off, we need to find people who care about the others in their community. That’s what we need to start with. Electric CO-OPs are owned by the people who care, not the government. The people who run these CO-OPs care about the safety and needs of their community." Rick pauses for a moment, making sure Carl is understands what he's …show more content…
The first is voluntary and open membership which states that the CO-OPs are voluntary organizations for all people who use their memberships and responsibilities correctly. The second is democratic member control which says the CO-OPs are strictly democratic and are ruled by the people, for the people. Members' economic participation is the third principle and it means the people who contribute equally control the capital, again like democracy. The fourth principle is autonomy and independence which means the CO-OPs are anonymous organizations for self-help that are controlled by their members." Rick pauses for a minute and looks over at Carl, who is skipping rocks once again, "are you keeping

The Norfolk Southern Corporation is very much apart of the communities that they are located in. Small towns and businesses all throughout the nation have been built from the ground up through the railroad industry. The city of Rock Hill was built and thrived during the early part of the 20th century due to the railroading industries and jobs that it provided for the community. We must work closely with the community to ensure that everyone is happy and is also

In Blinded by Power, Nader’s thesis is clear from the opening two paragraphs. Essentially, he is vehemently against the self-pitying stance that has been taken by the California utility corporations and perpetuated by the media. In fact, he goes as far as to claim: “Every element of

In this level is stage four, which is an authority and social-order-maintaining orientation. At this stage people do things based on rules that have already been set up or come from a place of high importance, for example, the government. Kohlberg said this was “...based on fixed rules, maintaining order and obeying authority” (2). He also said that there is “...a respect for rules [and] laws” (2). A person reflecting this stage will not make up rules to replace ones that already were there, or disobey rules that were already made to be followed.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie , a Nigerian writer gave an inspirational lecture called “The Danger of a Single Story”. It’s about what happens when complicated human beings and different circumstances are reduced to a single narrative. The theme I chose to best represent these quotes is “Hope in the face of devastation”, because throughout all of the hardships the Jews endured, they kept their hopes up with their strong beliefs for salvation. The Jews tried to lift up other Jew’s spirits by telling them to be strong and to believe that they will survive. Strong beliefs in their ability to survive, helped the Jews to last in the concentration camps longer. The theme of hope even during all of the devastation surrounding the Jews is depicted throughout the novel.
The End of the Game Although the bed was quite comfortable, Rainsford could not seem to fall asleep. He stared up at the ceiling and studied the patterns through the faint light coming from the bright, full moon as it peaked through the window. He turned on his side, his back towards the window. He began to sink into deep thought instead of a deep sleep. Nothing seemed… “real” to him at this point.
He reluctantly set the table as his dad burst through the door. Logan tried to ask his dad about his day but he just waved him off and asked his mom when the food would be ready. She replied, “I haven’t started yet dear.”
