There are currently at least 663 million people in the world who do not have access to safe drinking water (Deen). Water is a vital resource that everyone depends on in order to carry out activities and simply to survive. Without water, life on Earth would not exist because in order for life to grow and thrive, including humans, depend on water. Unfortunately with increasing population, altered and changing weather patterns and the pumping of groundwater are factors that have contributed to the issue of water depletion. These issues have caused conflict over water transportation, usage and the potential of water weaponry. Water depletion is an issue that is very difficult to fix because it would take an extensive amount of time and resources …show more content…
Changes in weather patterns can produce an increase of precipitation, but it can also be reduced in other regions (Keske). An important event is the California drought, which has been speculated to be one of the first warning signs that one must take care of water. It is stated that this drought is only a preview of what is to come in the future. The California drought will eventually end, but in the future it will become the reality of most people (Famiglietti). California is running out of water, this statement alone is intimidating to declare. California’s drought emphasizes the need to conserve water because currently and in the future, California will not be the only place in the world to have water issues. California is not the only place suffering a water crisis. Droughts have already started in other parts of the world as well, for example, in Syria. The drought from 2006 to 2009 has been credited from being one of the key contributors for social unrest and ultimately it lead to its Civil War (famiglietti). The Syrian drought brought with it so much instability but it is also another place among many that are suffering the consequences of the changing climate and the lack of water and precipitation. The altered and changing weather patterns have made it difficult for the restoration of water because it is extremely unpredictable and changing all the time. According to NASA, it will take two to three more winters of at least average precipitation to bring an end to the current drought (Famiglietti). Considering that the average precipitation is 63.7 inches (Osborn). There would need to be over 100 inches of precipitation in those two years to reach that goal, however, it cannot be predicted if this will be possible. One will simply have to wait and see. The drought has been a wake up call for everyone because it shows that water is a limited resource that will not be around
In the article of the week The Wrong Way to “Think about California Water” by Michael Hiltzik, Hiltzik explains why we are thinking about California's water the wrong way. He gives several reasons why we are thinking about California's drought the wrong way that seem to significant , but my family can cut back on water usage using these same principles. First, even when he said that water bottles are not the significant causes of water usage they still are a portion of that water usage. A way we could save water is to finish all that water, drink only when we're thirsty, and give any leftover water to the plants, making it a double win. Another way we could save water is to use more drought resistant plants, or fake plants.
So many lands, farms, fields of fruits and vegetables are gone because of the drought. All this happened because of a shortage of water from once green and healthy crops to dead dry brittle crops that are abandoned by a drought. For example, we had to cut back on watering my lawn and it went from a green lawn to a dead lawn, because of cut backs. Mat Wiser said that, “ Water will become one of the defining limits to human development and a compound factor in human misery,”(2009 Wiser). If we don’t have water we will die faster without water than food, we can’t be greedy on something that we thrive and survive
Due to this unwritten law made before the drought, Parvinder Hundal, a farmer that started his business in 1986 is feeling just how devastating this drought really is. In February, he received several emails from his main water districts telling him
In the article “California Drought: Governor Jerry Brown Issues Water Rules” for the Cable News Network, Ray Sanchez explains how Governor Jerry Brown is taking drastic measures to reduce California’s water usage. To do that, he has established many rules and restrictions on the people of California, as well as its businesses and farms. Governor Brown states that this drought needs extraordinary actions, as it has shown in the Sierra Nevada Mountains which has lost snow and are now covered with dry and brown grass. I agree with Sanchez and Governor Brown about imposing these rules and restriction on the people of California because these restrictions are going to help guide California out of the drought or at least help maintain and not let this drought get any worse than it already is. I agree with the author because in the article he provides good support to show why these rules need to be enacted upon
California dry from all of its water people trying to sell or just moving anywhere else. The drought has been going on for many years and slowly California is running out of water. If the government of California does not do anything the people may start to attack farmer to get water or the government may go for the people. The farmers are using all the water and people are losing their water.
The drought got to a lot of the states and it did not turn out good at all. The big drought toke one third of the great plans. According to 4, the drought did not cause the black blizzards. Every 25 years it will happen and it is not good.
water is necessary to survive for plants, animals and humans. and we are destroying our community primary sources of water by using too much of it. it 's predicted that water withdrawal will drains rivers and destroy habitat for many species of fish and wildlife. Cities like Las Vegas water is pumping from the colorado river,
All of the dry weather led to this severe water shortage which caused the drought. Even the little rainfall that came, was sucked up by the soil, leaving the people helpless and out of luck. When there was no rain, there was not enough water for the crops that were trying to grow, or the people who were thirsty. However, some farmers realized that deep under the soil, there was water left behind from the last ice age that occurred millions of years back. The water that they found underground, was used to water plants, that still did not end up surviving.
Has the lack of water supply affected your life in the past three years? California has been in a drought recently, and there has been a great decrease in citizen water possession. The state should regulate water usage because people are using too much water, and it is affecting other people. There have been many cases of water shortages in communities. “For Angelica Gallegos, the worst part has been going without a shower for five months.”
The cause of all this is the unregulated pumping of groundwater out of aquifers by California 's farmers in the Central Valley. As water is drawn out of these reservoirs, their structural integrity fails and they consequently collapse, causing the land above to sink. Once the aquifers collapse, their maximum capacity is reduced, so they cannot be fully refilled during wet periods. Less water will be stored and pumped, which is a major concern for drought years in the future.

According to Spross (2013), “The Texas drought began in 2010 and is now the third-worst the state has seen since 1895, when record-keeping first began” (para. 8). The 2011 drought exceeds the 1950-1957 drought in strength but not duration. It has also beaten the 1924-1925 drought by all measures, and is most strongly rivaled by the 1915-1918 drought. This 2011 drought is also one of two to have ever reached extreme status in all ten climate divisions of the state.
Though, it is difficult due to the fact that companies are the ones who own the water and the government is corrupt when it comes to this. It also showed that how without water, there would be nothing. No trees, food, and obviously no water. Taking water out of the aquifers and depleting them can also cause sinkholes. Politically, the government does not care.
2% of earth’s fresh water is frozen in ice caps; and, only 1% of earth’s fresh water is available to consume. 2. Unfortunately for our planet, supplies of water are running dry at an alarming rate. The world’s population continues to soar; but, that rise in numbers has not been matched by an increase in supplies of fresh water. Let’s talk about what is going on around the world; I will mention to you just a few major cities, and show you how they are dealing with water shortage.
