In life you have to live with the consequences of the decisions that you make. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor has to live with the consequences of his affair with Abigail Williams when he confesses it to the court publicly and he has to live with the consequences of what Elizabeth(his wife) does or says about the affair. Abigail Williams would have had to live with the consequences of her actions the night she and the other girls danced in the woods if she had confessed to doing witchcraft that night. The consequences of the people who did not confess to witchcraft, even though they were innocent, was that they were to be hanged. Also, we learn that Abigail and John Proctor had an affair, which is why Abigail drank the blood to kill Elizabeth. Act two takes place in the Proctor’s home. We learn in Act two that Elizabeth Proctor has been accused of witchcraft by Abigail and Elizabeth is arrested because of that. Act three takes place in the courtroom in Salem. John Proctor brings Mary Warren to the court so Mary can tell the judges that she and the girls are lying about witchcraft. Act four takes place in a jail cell in Salem. In Act four we learn that John Proctor is to be hung that day, unless he confesses to witchcraft; John cannot confess to it because that is his name, his only and he will not give that to Danforth. Also he has to deal with the consequences of what Abigail does after the affair because she has fallen in love with him and wants him to herself. Abigail tried a couple times to get rid of Elizabeth but they did not work. One was Abigail tried to kill Elizabeth by drinking a charm that might kill her. Another was Abigail also accused Elizabeth of witchcraft in the court and Elizabeth got arrested, but she did not hang because she was pregnant.
