Thus the nation’s leaders came together during the summer of 1787 at the Philadelphia Convention to draft the Constitution of the United States. The constitution was ratified in 1788. The Federalist Party had to gain nine of the thirteen states’ approval of the constitution to ratify it despite the goals of the Declaration of Independance. After the tyranny of the British rule, the new citizens of the United States wanted a severely limited government.

Even though they wrote the Articles of Confederation to establish a national government after the United States declared Independence from Great Britain, the document still had some flaws. The Articles of Confederation lasted 8 years until each of the thirteen states became unhappy with the laws. The Articles of Confederation wasn’t working out because the states had more power than the central and national government. The Articles of Confederation had no power to create a national army or navy, and the Article had no way to solve quarrels among the states.

When the Revolutionary War ended. The Articles of Confederation was embraced so that each state can have its own sovereignty Independence and freedom. The Article of Confederation failed because of a lack of a strong central government. They granted power to the central government only on a goodwill basis. Debt became a big problem after the war when the federal government attempted to pay off the debt by asking the states to help pay their share of the bill.

However, several problems arose from this system, which caused the Articles of Confederation to be discarded and replaced with a superior document. To balance the power between the states and the national government, the authors replaced the weak central government with a much stronger one that used checks and balances to equalize their three separate branches. They also made several changes to the way the government operates. Requiring the majority of votes was an inconvenience to the states and Congress, so the Founding Fathers remodeled the document in order to create a more lawful system. They also added an executive branch because it was something the country realized was necessary in order to enforce laws and make quicker decisions.

In 1777, the Continental Congress completed the first written American constitution, the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was created to form an alliance between the 13 colonies. It was working out well in the beginning until serious problems started to appear. Those were money problems and most importantly, a weak government. One issue the Articles of Confederation had, was the major money issues inflicted upon the union which harmed the coherency of our country.

The Articles of Confederation failed because they did not give Congress and the national government enough power. The new Constitution addressed many of the problems created by the Articles. The central government created by the Articles was weak. Congress could not regulate trade or agreements between the states or with other nations. American citizens wanted a fair system that could unify the state and protect their rights so that's why the founding father created the constitution.

The Federalist agreed with the Constitution and its provisions. The wanted to create a strong federal government that will combine both the federal and the states as one nation. One of the weakness that the Articles of Confederation address is that the state had rights to levy taxes and regulate commerce. The states where in charge of the money coming in. The government concern was that if the states did not provide funds for the military they could not do anything about it.

The constitution was able to address the problems with the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution created a Federalist government with a strong central government at the national level and weaker governments at state and local levels. It gave the national government the power to tax, draft troops, control interstate commerce, etc. Also because of the failure of the Articles of Confederation the Bill of Rights was established. With the Bill of rights in place and all the news laws into order the constitution was able to repair the failure that the Articles of Confederation

One of the major problems with the Articles of Confederation is that power was established state by state and limited power to a central government. The Constitution fixed this by balancing powers between the states and the Federal government. Also they created three branches of government: legislative, judiciary, and executive. Other solutions to the Articles of Confederation made by the Constitution were levying taxes by Congress, Congress having the right to control trade between states and countries, amendments became easier to ratify, and the executive branch had the power of checks and

The Articles of Confederation were the first set of guidelines for the government in America that was ratified in 1781. The Articles of Confederation limited the powers of the government, gave most of the control to each individual state, did not require a president, and was quickly found to be ineffective. It left America at risk to be invaded by other countries or to suffer from economic problems. If another country wanted to conduct business in America, they had to deal with each state individually. Any amendment required unanimous approval (Evans & Michaud, 2015).

Following the Revolutionary War, America had just gained independance from Great Britain and needed to form a new government. The Articles of Confederation were established as an attempt to create a government that was unlike Britain’s. Unfortunately, the Articles of Confederation had several weaknesses. When in the process of repairing those weaknesses, the Federalists and the Anti-federalists formed. The Articles of Confederation were very weak as well as useless to America and because of this, the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists could not agree on a new type of government.

The Articles of Confederation were a document seen as the “first” constitution of the United States. This document granted the new national government power to control the military, declare war, and create treaties between the states. However, the Articles had holes in it considering the government did not have the power to tax, create laws without at least nine states’ approval, or change the Articles of Confederation without a unanimous vote. This means that the country soon fell into debt and petty arguments between state, the new government had no control. It was time for a change.

The Articles of Confederation was an agreement among the thirteen original states of the United States that served as the first constitution. The Articles had first been introduced by Richard Henry Lee in the Second Continental Congress. Although the Articles of Confederation has made its contributions throughout history, the Articles, however, did not last very long and had been proven inadequate from the very start. I agree with this statement based on the examples and analysis of the Constitution I will soon provide. Contrary to popular belief, the United States has two constitutions: the Articles of Confederation and the present day constitution. So, what happened to the Articles of Confederation? The Articles of Confederation failed for many reasons: the reluctancy of the individual states to surrender their powers to a national government, the impotence of Congress to tax the colonies in order to pay off war debts or pay veterans of the American Revolution, the inability to back up the currency coined by Congress, the institution of multiple currency as states began to coin their own money, and the lack of power to regulate trade and commerce among the states or foreign nations. The Articles of the Confederation was the first government constitution that the United States used, and, although there were strength like the Northwest Ordinance of 1787, there were major weaknesses of the Articles of the Confederation like the following: requiring 9 out of the 13 colonial votes from the representatives from different states to pass a law; having no executive and judicial branch; and the federal government being unable to impose tax revenue onto the states. Such flaws would eventually lead to the Constitution and the repeal of the articles, for the Constitution was a measure to fix the problems of the articles with a stronger government that allowed them to impose taxes and and implement new laws for a more effective government.
