The Federalist papers were the outcome of the fall of the articles of confederation. John Jay, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton were the main contributors to the 85 letters written to newspapers between 1787 and 1788. The purpose of all the letters, known as the Federalist papers was to persuade all of the colonies to ratify the new constitution. The federalist papers talk about many things, but mainly how the new constitution would create a strong central government and would preserve the union. Also, the anti federalists tried to publish anonymous articles that basically went against everything the federalists had to say.

Federalist No. 1 Analysis Alexander Hamilton was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was born on January 11th of 1755 or 1757 in Charlestown, Nevis and died July 12th, 1804. Hamilton is best known for his interpretations of the Constitution resulting in the Federalist Papers. When political leaders met in Philadelphia to figure out how they could strengthen the Articles of Confederation they soon realized that they needed to replace the entire thing with the US Constitution. Those that did not support the constitution were became known as the anti-federalist and those that supported it were known as the Federalists. The federalist wrote the Federalists Papers that were published in newspapers trying to gain support for the constitution. Two states, Massachusetts and South Carolina wrote up a resolution list to ratify the Constitution in order to get them to support it. Both states wanted “all Powers not expressly delegated by the aforesaid Constitution to be reserved to the several States to be by them exercised” (Avalon Project, 1788).

The Federalist Papers were a collection of essays in support of the ratification of the Constitution. The writers of the papers tried to stay anonymous, but people soon figured that writers were James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay. The authors didn’t want to put their names on their works, because they wanted to keep their identity hidden, so that people would take their argument form an objective point of view rather than a subjective view due to their personalities. The Federalist Papers worked at their main objective to ratify the Constitution. It was important that all states ratified the Constitution, especially Virginia and New York.

Eleven scores and ten years ago the Framers of our fine country gave birth to a new documentation system of government which still holds deep roots today. In the late 1770s, the Constitution caused much controversy and pitted the Federalists and Anti-Federalists against each other even further (“Brief History”). The Constitution created a stronger central government and weaker state governments which Anti-Federalists were not in favor of. (“Brief History”). The Constitution also included three branches of government: executive, judiciary, and legislative and included checks and balances. James Madison is attempting to ratify the Constitution by analyzing the way to deal with factions, comparing a republic to a democracy, and by comparing a small government to a large government.

Since they were all for the new constitution, they wanted to go ahead and make it. But the Anti-federalists didn’t want this. They were hesitant on this new government. So, that is why the Federalist papers were created. These were a series of 85 essays that tried to convince Anti-Federalists to ratify the Constitution.
