America is a country with a history founded on people looking for a new start and emigrating from the old world to fulfill their dreams. Immigration is not always happiness, rags to riches, and the American dream. Major immigration periods happened from 1607, 1820-1870 and again in the early 1900’s. Immigrant numbers were growing so exponentially that the National origins Act of 1921 and 1924 was enacted to put a quota limit that blatantly discriminated against immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe. Immigrants that made it in faced many hardships such as learning new languages, abandoning family, and accepting the American values.

Italian, German, Irish, and many other eastern European immigrants sought the prosperous and wealthy lifestyle advertised in the land of opportunity, the United States. However, after settling down they often faced the difficulties they had fled from as well as sentiments of prejudice and mistrust from the American people. Ten years ago, I immigrated to the United States and ever since I have been an undocumented immigrant. Due to my legal status in the United States, I felt like I was restricted from certain situations and possessions and would never be able to succeed. Even though the drastic change at such a young age was a challenge, it has shaped who I am today.

Illegal immigrants come to America to escape from many different kinds of mistreatment from their home country. When an individual moves they are often followed by others who are encouraged to find a better quality of life. Obtaining a citizenship is strenuously difficult to attain because of raised standards, language and education barriers, along with the fear of the United States government and society projecting bias towards immigrants. The feeling of being burdensome, unappreciated, and unintelligent due to the language barrier when communicating with others.

For decades, immigration has been a problem for the United States. Due to the people traveling from their native lands to the United States seeking a better life for themselves, and more primarily for the family that has come with them. Immigration is the action of settling into a country of which one is not native. Despite the many legal immigrants not every immigrant enters the country with legal documents and most of these illegal immigrants are poor and uneducated. Some undocumented immigrants commit crimes such as drug smuggling, or terrorism.

What is an immigrant? Well, the answer for that could be multiple things. For example, it could be a person who has immigrated to a foreign country, a person who sees this world with new eyes, or possibly children. My personal definition of an immigrant is someone who sees this world differently, but the differences are generally their hopeful eyes. There are multiple people who consider my definition wrong since by dictionary an immigrant is someone who lives permanently in a foreign country.

Why Illegal Immigration Is an Intergovernmental Mess and Will Remain So Illegal immigration issues in the United States I strongly believe the state and local governments have become more active in regulating illegal immigrant during the recent years, because of the growing population and the need for more regulations in regards to the distribution of funds to agencies providing services to illegal immigrants such as border patrol, social services and medical care. We are getting closer to voting on a new President and I think the motivating factor for taking action regarding immigration issue for the federal government, politicians running for office in particular, is driven by the need to get votes. Every time we get ready to elect a new president the immigration issue always becomes more public. On June
