Tipping in America began after the American Civil War in the late 1800’s, according Michael Lynn. Tipping in America is completely voluntary and no one has to tip, but they should considering the restaurant owner pays them $2.13 and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips according to The Fair Labor Standards Act. When a person leaves a bad tip they are hurting that person's income. Tipping should be outlawed, because people don’t understand what a tip is, it perpetuates racism and sexism, and better service doesn't actually mean better tips.

Tipping is not an act of kindness, tipping in America is voluntary and you aren't stealing if you don’t tip. Most people in The United States tip 15-30 percent, because they think it is mandatory and because servers earn “$2 to $3 per hour from their restaurant employer” according to Esquire. If you leave a bad tip you are hurting that person because they make $2-$3 an hour and the owner doesn’t have to pay them minimum wage, because of tips.
