Industrial Revolution Essay The advent of the industrial revolution affected workers in many ways, some good but mostly bad. The age of industry brought with it changes in class structure. Workers were over worked, not fed enough, and had little to no health benefits. Some workers during the Industrial Revolution worked so hard that they often had to quit work and in most cases died.

During the late 18th through the19th century, the industrial revolution created many changes in regards to labor. Many people of the working class were affected positively in the way of new jobs, better quality products, and quality of life (Doc3, Doc4, Doc 5). While others lost family or experienced a decrease in the quality of life (Doc1, Doc2, Doc7). Some workers soon became dependent on technological machinery (Doc 6, Doc 8, Doc 9). Many workers lives during The Industrial Revolution were changed for the positive as many people such as children had a chance to enrich their lives because they were given a purpose (Doc 3).

The Industrial Revolution was a period between both the seventeen as well as eighteen hundreds, and was mainly acknowledged as a time of immense change. Throughout the numerous years, various inventions were shortly to be developed such as the refined Newcomen steam engine, the cotton mill machine, and most importantly, the water frame. These modern developments certainly affected the revolution positively, though after several years however, factories for these inventions were eventually to be manufactured. The factories in particular were privately operated by wealthy factory owners who required others to complete the complex tasks. According to the wealthy operators, the less fortunate of mankind were required to complete these hazardous duties.

In the 18th century began a great movement called the Industrial Revolution. While the Industrial Revolution was a great turning point in the history of mankind, it had both positive and negative effects. The Industrial Revolution led our civilization to great technological advancements as well as great losses. During the Industrial Revolutions, many inventions were made.

The Industrial Revolution refers to a time of greatly increased output of machine-made goods that emerged within the textile industry. The Industrial Revolution, which began in England in the late 1700’s, had a wide range of positive and negative effects on the economic and social life of the people of England. The results of the Industrial Revolution have been interpreted many ways through the various social classes of Britain; the peasants who suffered from the dangers of the factories and tenements and the upper class who benefited from capital and enterprises. Although the Industrial Revolution positively affected Britain’s iron production and added conveniences and comforts to daily life for the upper class, the dangers of the factories’

This was important to big businesses because they had a handle on the actions of citizens once again. With laborers knowing death was a possibility of resistance, they backed down. Conditions of living were just as bad as in the workplace, as Jacob Riis, a muckraker, expressed through his writing. Riis, an immigrant from Denmark, wrote about the filthy slums immigrants were forced to live in because of the unfair wages.**Although the industrial revolution brought about great change in the way we did things, such as the use of machines, the conditions in which these mechanisms were used remained the same in the late 1800’s and early 1900s.

The industrial revolution was a time of immense progress. It marked an era of technological advancements and a changing society, yet also a period smeared with unfair and unsafe working conditions. The history is filled with stories of people suffering, being injured, and even dying, all in the process of creating goods for the changing consumer culture. Thousands looked past the suffering, condoled themselves with the goods they purchased at economical prices all at the expense of the working class, a class that had no other choice than to work in the dark, dangerous factories to feed their family. While the consumer culture in this time could look past the anguish of those in the working class, progressives could not.

Labor in the Industrial Revolution was dangerous for children because the children were abused by employers and overlookers, they were deprived of their childhood, and injuries were very common. Child abuse in the workplace was common during the Industrial Revolution. Children were affected either mentally, or physically by their employers and overlookers. This was stated in Document C, “The sons and a man named Swann, the overlooker, used to go up and down the mill with sticks. Frank once beat he till frighten himself.”

Introduction: Industrial Revolution was a time when, mass production took place in England around 1790 and ended in 1870. They employed children because they were small, they could pay them less money, and therefore made more profit themselves. The conditions of the factories were not good for the children and it had a smell that was unbearable. The dust, soot and oil suffocated them half of the time, they were whipped for sitting down, suffered from thirst and hunger, and many more disturbing things. The children would get injured often when fingers were crushed and arms were broken, some girls got black marks on their skin from being whipped several times.

I think that English textile factories were bad for the health of the working class families because in Documents A and C it says that Children were getting hurt constantly, were beaten, over worked, and never had time to eat In document C, John Barley was abused and when someone came to interview them, they had to lie about their treatment , he also worked long hours and their breakfast was very little. When Birley was abused, his boss thought he was dead. When he went to go hit Birley, he quickly put his arm up to protect his head and his boss hit him with all his might. John had A broken elbow and marks. He said “ I bear the marks, and suffer pain from it to this day, and always shall as long as I live…” They also never got fed properly

The Industrial Revolution was a horrific time in the 1700s by the fact that it caused bad pollution and children would be worn out at the end of their work day. The greatest aspect of industrialization was that the kids and adults had good surroundings. “Of these there are 500 children who are entirely fed, clothed, and educated by Mr.Dale” (Document 6). The quote is evidence that shows the kids were well cared for.

During the Industrial Revolution big businesses took places of small workshops, increasing to quantity but not quality. This made many people lose their jobs, and now there was only one place to work the factories. Ahead of these factories were big business owners, some born into money others worked their way up to it like Andrew Carnegie. Work at these factories became unsafe and the pay was bad, they could only blame one person and that was the owners.

Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.

Child labor was a great concern in the Industrial revolution but very few people did something to stop it. Women and Children were forced to work more than 10 hours a day with only forty minutes to have lunch. Elizabeth Bentley once said that they didn’t have any time to have breakfast or drink anything during the day. They worked standing up and if they didn’t do their work on time they were strapped (whipped). Children were treating like they were not important, like they didn’t deserve a better life.

The industrial revolution created an age of wonder for the rich but also created a nightmare for the workers powering the industrial revolution. The period of rapid industrial growth during the 1800s and into the early 1900s was more harmful because of poor working conditions, violent labor disputes and poor regulations at factories.
