The Influence Of The Renaissance Style In Milan

A renaissance is a rebirth of art and literature. It is also a French word, meaning “rebirth”. Throughout history, it has been shown that social and philosophical changes are represented in the form of art during a renaissance. Beliefs and values throughout society are being reborn by these changes. Artists have always been involved during periods of societal change to express the experiences of the people who are going through changes in their way of living and working.

One way paintings demonstrate this is the difference between the Mona Lisa and Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angels. The older painting, Madonna Enthroned Between Two Angles, is unrealistic and has rather depressing dark colors. While the Renaissance painting, the Mona Lisa, is not only much more realistic, but also a lot more cheerful, brighter feel, and became a true masterpiece (Doc A). In the paintings, the fact the Renaissance painting is brighter, more realistic and a famous masterpiece, shows that the Renaissance changed the art style into a unique, amazing representation that changed the entire future of art. The paintings from the Renaissance showed that people saw each other differently than before( Doc A).

From the fifteenth century to the seventeenth centuries society experienced a shift from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. During this time Europe underwent many significant changes that were often expressed through the historical art. Passionate and experienced artists used their skills to create masterpieces that would highlighted these changes and led to the success of their careers. During this shift Medieval point of views began to fade away and a new Era full of new perspectives began to form. The Renaissance was known by many as the rebirth of the humanist culture.

In the time of the Middle Ages, they focused on the religious value of art, “The [clearest] evidence of the break with medieval culture comes from the visual arts.” (DocA) a popular painting of this time by Duccio Di Bouninsegna’s shows The Mother Mary with the baby Jesus on her lap. This painting was two-dimensional and had very little creativity, the painting mostly didn’t make people feel anything only had religious value. While during the Renaissance they focused on making you feel stronger feelings “[It] was the essence of the Renaissance .... One begins to know the names of the artists ... feel stronger emotions in the subjects ... ... see well-defined landscapes, natural folds in drapery, and three-dimensional figures” (Doc A).

Art reached new heights during the Renaissance. Many new techniques and styles emerged such as perspective, chiaroscuro, and sfumato. Before the Renaissance, artists focused primarily on religious scenes and Gothic art. During the Renaissance, artists began to focus more on realism and human qualities. Renaissance artists also began to lean towards Roman and Greek styles/ideas for inspiration.

The human race has gone through many extravagant eras and ages. From the space age to the Victorian era, humans have seen civilizations fall and revolutions ensue. Possibly the most well known era was the age of the Renaissance. The Renaissance was an advanced age fueled by an infatuation for art and literature. People began to focus on the concept of individualism, and portrayed that in their art.

The Renaissance was a period in time where everything started to change after the middle ages. During this historical period humans stared evolving by becoming smarter and inventing useful recourses that have changed the world. The renaissance was a life changing period which brought more joy to the world after conquering the dark ages. The Renaissance changed man’s view on the world by using Art, Science and Literature to make humans brighter and because of the rapid information they were gaining. Art during the Renaissance grew rapidly because of Leonardo Da Vici, and Michelangelo who changed the way people painted and drew by creating strategies which made art more interesting.

“Simplicity is the Ultimate Sophistication” Leonardo Da Vinci was known for this quote and countless other things. Born on April 15th, 1452 in Vinci, Italy, his beliefs inspired and influenced the Catholic Church in many ways. Out of all of his paintings, he was most commonly known for the Mona Lisa and the Last supper. His paintings have affected countless artists. He is one of the most common artists of the Italian renaissance.

Art began thriving in this period, and humans learned more about themselves and their place in the world. The Renaissance began in Italy but quickly spread throughout Europe. Art and architecture were two big growth points, as many wealthier people commissioned much more artwork and architecture for themselves. Some important figures in the Renaissance were Martin Luther, who helped to kickstart the Renaissance by challenging the Catholic Church, Leonardo Da Vinci, a painter and inventor, and Michelangelo, who was mainly a sculptor but also painted the roof of the Sistine Chapel. If we focus on the attributes to the artwork in the Medieval and Renaissance Florence, then we can distinguish between these two eras. To clarify, during the Medieval time period in Florence, the artwork was primarily focused on the iconic heroes and religion. The main subject of the painting was depicted as the largest figure; moreover, in comparison to the most significant figure, the other figures were painted to scale based off their ranking. Also, the backgrounds were based off religious experience instead of human experience, so symbolic icons were used quite frequently, for example, a gold leaf in the setting symbolized religious purity and devotion to the faith, so the use of gold color represented Heaven’s atmosphere.
